a hack i've seen is to put wine corks into the end of the bars above your brake levers. this extends the length of grip slightly allowing for better "hoods" position

I've got plenty of corks! Thanks.

Love the Montana scenery. I was a forestry student at UM, graduated in 1967. I'm thinking about putting one of these bars on my 2012 Salsa Spearfish. I do ride flowey trails, Not much technical stuff at 77 yo, no bike packing yet. I greatly enjoy riding county, forest and two tracks, so that set of interests might lien toward the corner bar. I also ride road, gravel and fat tire, but I sure like the semi-drop position for my aging wrists. Great video! Thanks so much. Jim

Good vid, love them both! I will say the Corner Bar is a real game changer, and I did the Tri bars on mine and it’s fantastic. Have never had so many questions about a bike, and the performance backs it up!

I only wish they were Aluminum though to save weight…heavy! Surly never will do that tho.

What mounts did you use to mount the clip-on bars to the CB? Was it 22.2 or 25.4?
@ElevationEveryWeekend2 жыл бұрын
@@NoBrakes23 The Corner Bar is 25.4mm at the stem. The Profile Design aero bars are set for 31.8mm road bars, but came with shims for the 25.4mm size, which I used for the install. I have a couple vids as well if you want to dive deep on it.

I liked the idea of the Moloko but I didn’t need the front bar so I went a different route and added inner bar ends instead. They’re placed wider than the horns on the Moloko bar would be but they work pretty well for me and it’s a decently clean look.

Thank you for the video! Surly Corner Bar Handlebars, in my opinion, lack longer handles, where hoods are.

one of these bars is gonna be on my 2023 Surly Ice cream Truck... l used the Moloko bar on my ECR and it is better than the Jones bar, Wider sweep, very comfy... interested in the Corner Bar
@Ferrichrome Жыл бұрын
Totally agree that the corner bar is way cooler looking. Every time I see them on a build it just completely changes the personality of the bike. I’m more of a drop bar guy, so having the option for a more aero position is appealing too.
@recyclespinning9839 Жыл бұрын
I'm changing out my flat bars , now I'm confused. These drop bars allow the use of the same brakes and shifter , and I kind of like the idea of adding the aero bars for a position to use in the wind. My like new vintage Paramount PDG40 is like a hybrid/touring bike , so I'd like both control and an aero position. Either of these bars will work for converting it to a touring / gravel bike. Thanks for the review. PS, the corner bar needs a longer "hoods" position. I need to see them in person.

I hvae the corner bar and i think it suits best to fixies. The gear levers dont fit comfortable in it. And the the hoods are not wide enough as to install some bar ends as they are mtb standard. Hence if i could go back and choose i.d say moloko bars is most better choice. But if they correct the issue with the break lever positioning what is totslly difficult and the widhth of the hoods. Then they would become equal level different purpose bars. I dont know if moloko hoods are bar-end comoatible or not, but would make them even more round if it is not

If I ever have the time and money to build up my "Frankengravel" rig, the Corner Bar will be my choice. I don't want it to look too much like a traditional mtb, which it won't....It's my 1998 Barracuda XC URT frame that I was riding up until mid 2018. I have my wife's 1995 Marin Muir Woods mtb that I plan on stripping of the majority of parts; wheels, brakes, and possibly the crankset

The Moloko is the better alternative for varying hand placement comfort plus other gear, bag carrying holder. Was going to get me one but didn't need the extra front bar so I went and got the Crazy bar instead which is a good compromise.

I think koga denham bar or velo crazy bars could be ideal. How are you liking yours?
@jamieroszel2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comparison video, great points. I'd add that if you're interested in bikepacking that the Moloko has so many attachment points. In my Old Fort bikepacking video kzbin.info/www/bejne/maC9Y6iKg7qmgtE you can see that my Moloko bars are able to handle a Garmin 530 + light easily, and I usually keep a Revelate Design Egress bag attached to the front. I've also recently added a GoPro mount- there is just so much space for attachments and hand position.

Haha I never noticed that. The wall it’s leaning on is the same as an exterior door that my kids love to slam shut and it can make things on the shelves move or fall over.

The Corner Bar seems like the worst of all worlds (the road experience without true hoods, which is the best part), whereas the moloko is just like, "Here's every option you could ever want!"
@kevinclark91762 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that was my kind of take on the Corner, though I haven’t ridden it. When I want to be wide I want flats. When I want to drop I also want to be narrow. It’s the reverse. Which is why my plan is to try clip on aero on a 16deg riser bar. Looking at the Corvus Sweet 16 or SQLab 311.

I've ridden my buddies bike which has a corner bar on it. I liked it more than I thought I would. I do wish that the forward "horns" extended a few inches further forward. In terms of being able to use the hoods surly is kinda limited due to road handlebars using 15/16" vs mtb using 7/8" making shifters and brake levers incompatible plus difficulties using mtb grips. While wacky it's actually a pretty decent bar with good control, as far as aerodynamics I'd rate it much lower due to the width of your hands in the main position while sitting in a reasonably upright mtb position.

How do you feel about riding in the "hoods" of the corner bar vs the horns of the Moloko? I've seen some criticisms of the corner bar being that the hood position is not very comfortable, especially in comparison to drop bars.
@RideYearRound2 жыл бұрын
I feel like the corner bar is a good way to test out if you’d like drops, but doesn’t give you the real drop bar experience. I tend to put my hands on the “hood” but have been trying to figure out a better way to modify them so it’s more comfortable. I think the horns of the Moloko are more comfortable though.

Moloko is hard to get here in my country corner bars are easier to get and some sellers here made a custom extension for its hoods for extra length which will make it more relatable to dropbars

I’d like the moloko’s more if they had some rise to them. They actually have a slight negative rise that makes it difficult if your steerer is short. If I keep my Ogre, I’ll probably put Jones risers on.

Dont know if I want to do it. I’m about to do a 150miles ride around lake pontchartrain in October and I’m thinking about using my full suspension motobecane Hal 6 boost instead of my trek Emonda sl6 etap. Crazy I know but it’s a brutal ride and the bar positions of these 2 are very tempting. Great vid btw.

It goes on the “hood” right by the brake (before or after depending on your preference). I’ve only used them on a singlespeed so I haven’t had to worry about that haha.

Good stuff. One of the big names over here (UK) in the world of fat bikes and biking in general, swears by the Ritchey Coyote bar. I can't find them anywhere, so I'm on the prowl for a Moloko, which are also out of stock. I blame all this shit purely on Brexit, but probably best not to get into that...
