I like to use rubber grips on my 1st gen apple pencil, it looks like that would be a problem on the new one because it would prevent proper charging. Thanks for your clear explanation.

Most of the cases for the pro either have a slot to store the pencil or have the entire side exposed for it to dock and charge

Pretty sure it depends on the model. You can go to settings > general > about and you can find the model, and you can search up what they work with. Apple support has made a page that says what pencil works with each model

No. The ipad 8 has no flat edges where you can charge the pen. You need the 1gen pencil

Can anyone recommend a good stylus/pencil like the Apple Pencil that would work on my iPad 5th gen? (Not a mini, just normal size). I know that the Apple Pencil isn’t compatible with it but none of the alternatives on Amazon seem to work with mine either! I have the same problem. I’ve been looking for a good alternative for over a year and still found nothing yet. I suggest you not to invest in the Amazon’s one. Even if they look quite like the Apple Pencil and there quite expensive there are very cheap and not good quality like at all. Hope this helps !

(I’m in England so I don’t know if it’s available everywhere) - it’s from a brand called “Cisirun” and while it doesn’t compare to an official Apple Pencil, it works brilliantly (no palm rejection or pressure sensor, but it charges via a USB lead which comes with it and the battery lasts for ages, plus you don’t have to use Bluetooth, you just turn it on and that’s it! And I only paid £19! My iPad is getting a bit old and slow so if I do have to replace it at any point I will probably get one that is compatible with an Apple Pencil, but I really like this other pencil for now! Hope this helps :D
