Arrows are vastly underappreciated. Its a shame so many of the mega-loopers are gone. Would have been great if they retracked them instead.

They're not underappreciated they just suck. Shallow drops, janky transitions awful restraints etc etc...besides the nostalgia aspect they don't come close to any modern coaster

@@user-pl5ds8iz6q yeah and most modern coasters have a lack of vision, push crappy vest restraints onto people, no real innovation just "oh we made a better transition here" and claims of butter smooth which is bs like RMC trains suck and most intamin ones aren't that good either. Real steel coasters are what the market needs, like new vekomas, stuff like Steel Curtain, etc. The successors to the arrow looper types really. When ruining classic wood coasters, building 30 second coasters, and a single rail is the story of the last decade, there is nothing to be proud of with the whole "modern" thing. Heck, i think gravity group mastering a family wooden coaster (and can make ones with inversions too with better seats) is a better example of anything modern that is well done. Also nostalgia peopel loving B&M stand-ups is where nostalgia is being placed-stand ups double down on any pain arrow ever did at it's worst.

@@oneandonlysound3453 Still not explaining why Arrow Looper itself is literally reusing the exact copy of element blueprint to the exact dimension over and over and over and over and over and over.... Just with different elevation Only the time Arrow Looper was being original is Tennessee Tornado. But I'm completely sure you count it as heresy because of Alan Schilke.
@oneandonlysound3453
@oneandonlysound3453 2 жыл бұрын
@@bocahdongo7769 The future of Arrow was meant to be improvements after the failure of Drachen Fire. Tennessee Tornado was them doing it right really, though with more inversions intended, they could've kept going. If X2 had been asked for by a reasonable park, that might've helped too. Also, the company itself didn't always want to use the same track. They came up with several totally different concepts (pipeline that intamin built one rip off of, basically a dive invert) that never got built/made because-well this happens, but there attempts got shot down a lot. Nevermind the time when worked with Huss when they were merged and different people had influence on different ideas. Though how people compare like the old mine trains to the mega loopers as if they are that similiar is just silly-by that, you'd literally have to say every B&M is the same.

@@oneandonlysound3453 I can't deny that in the end it goes full circle. But let's be honest, it's smoother if not more reliable. It's still goes full circle in terms of element reusability, but still way better than Arrow which both carbon copy to each other and unnecessarily janky.

I'm a sucker for Arrow loopers. I grew up in the 90s so Arrow and B&M basically define my vision of steel coasters and the Arrow loopers have a lot of nostalgia for me. Dragon Mountain was definitely going to be number one, though I think it almost challenges the very concept of what should count as prime ride time. Viper (SFMM) is awesome. Ya gotta sit in the back seat for Nessy! It gives awesome airtime and makes it feel like the beast trying to hurl you right out of the car. She was my first adult coaster and I've easily logged more rides on her than any other coaster I've been on. The only thing I don't like about her is that second lift hill. Back in the old days she would hit it so fast that she wouldn't need the chain to pull her up more than half of it but I believe they have slowed her down a bit since then. And yes the lights and fog in the tunnel were definitely part of what made the helix so much fun back in the day.

Dragon Mountain is one of my favorites of any coaster. The lift hill up the mountain, the length of the ride, the true terrain aspect and most of all the long tunnels in total darkness make it very special. The final tunnel is one of my favorite coaster moment ever. It’s long and includes a drop in darkness. It’s always a walk on and resides are permitted I just rode it in August 2022 and it’s unbelievable how well it tracks for a 35ish year old Arrow. There are a few wobbles at the bottom of the loops and only one bad transition on the whole ride coming out if the first tunnel. This ride alone is worth the trip to Marineland. Plus they have rare Zierer Star Shape and Huss Magic. Both are incredible. They don’t have a lot of rides but I really enjoy the park the way it’s spread out and laid-back. It’s such a nice alternative to overcrowded CW

I grew up going to Kings Dominion and Busch Gardens. So many rides on Anaconda and Loch Ness Monster. Anaconda was the perfect intro to steel loopers. Nice shallow drop, lots of cool surroundings on the lake, slowish etc. Loch Ness remains a legit great coaster for me. Still runs great, has a “heavy” feel to it that makes me feel like I’m going faster than I actually am. Front row Nessie rides on a cool October night with the Halloween event going on is probably still my favorite overall theme park experience.

In Queensland, Australia in the early 90s (Until we got an SLC), there were two major coasters to choose from. One was called Thunderbolt at Dreamworld, and despite its iconic looking double loops, it was a horrible ride for mine. Sure it had its fans, but it was so rough, that I can still feel the headache 30 years later. Funny enough it was built by the Sanoyas Hishino Meisho who is also responsible for the infamous, ill-fated and now closed Melbourne Star Ferris Wheel. Contrast this to creatively named "Corkscrew" at the nearby Seaworld. This was an incredibly simple Aarow looper; only with a 1 minute or ride, but it was one of the smoothest Roller Coasters I've even been on, and was so easy to marathon, which helped make up for the quick ride time. It's probably one of the major reasons I like roller coasters today. New Zealand actually had a seemingly identical model which is still running today. Also, nice to see Gold Coaster get a mention in your video; it's a good ride and with its 120cm height requirement, it's likely the first inversion for many Australian children. I'm not surprised it ranked one in pacing, it does ride fast which is probably what's motivated Dreamworld to keep it going all these years. Incidentally, it also looks a lot better these days with its new coat of pain than the clips used for this video.

That Arrow Loop and Corkscrew at Rainbows End is our best rollercoaster in New Zealand, poor us. I've been on the one at Seaworld Gold Coast just when it got the Kumbak trains and renamed to Sea Viper I think in 2010. Done Viper, X2, both Demons, Canyon Blaster and managed to get on Vortex at Kings Island on last day of operation in 2019. Obviously X2 blows them all out of the water by far, but I always appreciate an Arrow for nostalgia. Not sure how much longer our local Corkscrew will stay around, but it's still surprisingly smooth for what it is.

I rode Loch Ness Monster for the first time back in 2019 just a year after it received the new trains from S&S for its 40th anniversary and I was absolutely blown away with how smooth it really was. That first drop scared the living shit out of me because of how intense it was not to mention that I actually grayed out at the bottom of it as it was that intense for me as a first time rider. I have never been on a coaster with a top speed of 60 miles an hour or faster in my life not to mention that Nessie currently holds the record for the tallest and fastest roller coaster I've been on. I don't think the Loch Ness Monster will be going away anytime soon especially since Busch Gardens Williamsburg's maintenance team does a fantastic job with maintaining the coaster according to a friend of mine who works there.

I will always love Arrow Loopers so thank you for adding them to your "by the numbers" series. I must add a criticism however, this video would have been much better served if you had included the defunct Arrow Loopers. The defunct loopers included some of the most intense and best paced of the whole lot. Shockwave in particular would have been a fascinating contrast to Viper at SFMM since Shockwave had no trim breaks and a mid-course that did not bring the train to a dead stop. Then there was Steel Phantom with it's Hypercoaster-sized drop and 80mph top speed. I'm also curious where Vortex, Great American Scream Machine, Orient Express, the insane looking Dragon at Ocean Park, with it's bizarre two chain lift layout, would have placed on the list. Oh and Drachen Fire, I bet that one would have had high marks for prime ride time and nearly every other stat but sadly I've heard it was one of the most painful coasters in the world...still it would have been a fun entry. I was happy to see you include Fantasia Special and Goldcoaster which rarely are mentioned at all. Sorry to complain so much about what I did not see in your video...just an Arrow fanboy venting his frustrations, lol.

A woman died after being ejected from the front seat which saw its demise and walking up those steps while waiting on line was lame. I avoided it after riding both sides a handful of times when it first opened. The Scream Machine was awesome and colossal when it first opened. I rode it whenever I went to the park until it was removed. A bonus about GA is I loved Rolling Thunder a woodie with plenty of airtime and although a racer had 2 separate layouts and towards it's end started running one side backwards which was awesome. Out of all the ex coasters at GA it was my favorite.

If only I got to ride Vortex before it closed. I didn’t have much time on my 2017 visit to Kings Island, so I skipped a few rides, primarily Firehawk and Vortex, and said I would ride them next time. Next time never came 😢 I didn’t; think Vortex would close, since it was such an iconic ride for the park. It also looks like we might be losing Dragon Mountain very very soon as well. It’s just sad to see so many of the iconic and unique Arrow Loopers continuing to slowly disappear. It really feels like sooner than we think, all we’ll have left are the generic corkscrew and corkscrew with loop models. The brake run before the corkscrews on Viper at Darien Lake has been adjusted in the past based on the number of trains running. When it opened they managed to run three at once so I imagine it needed to slow the train down but now that there’s usually only one train running it’s not necessarily needed. Also, I completely forgot about Dragon Mountain until you brought it up even though I used to live near the border. Lastly, I feel like if Six Flags had the business model that they’ve had within the past decade about 30 years ago, all their parks would receive an Arrow coaster such as Vortex or Corkscrew with each having a different DC nickname.

The issue with Dragon Mountain is they never finished theming it, the weird helix in the back was suppose to be a volcano. If they actually finished it, it would be a much better ride. Fun Fact: I rode Ride of Steel at Darien Lake YEARS before I rode Dragon Mountain because the lift hill terrified me as a kid lol the drop isn’t nearly that large.
@bettymac1866

The theming is so bizarre. And that lift hill is something else. It was my first major roller coaster I was barely tall enough to ride. I will forever love that ride but I agree. The lifthill scared me.

I've ridden Dragon Mountain at Marineland back in 1991. It was an experience to say the least. Plus Marineland had more going on back then and wasn't a Ghost town Park that it is today.

There's a rumor that Marineland could be closing for development. With the controversy with animals, low attendance and Canada's hardline coronatarianism, I can't say that I'll be surprised if that rumor is true.

I'd heard they're getting sold yeah. Not closing forever, but it's set to at least be changing hands, and then they'll probably remodel the park away from animal attractions (at least I hope that's what happens)

Back when I started watching coaster channels, I kept hopefully waiting for mention of the park I visited growing up.... but nothing. Then I did some digging and discovered that the coasters which utterly thrilled me as a kid were really nothing special in the larger scope. Besides which, turns out the park itself shares its fairly generic name with many others across the continent. So imagine my surprise when, at 5:45, I hear a reference to the recently closed "Corkscrew at Playland" - yup. There it is. I rode that one its opening year and for many years after, and am happy it's been helpful for the purpose of this video. Great list! 🎢🍍

Sadly rumor has it Marineland is going to close it's doors for good after this season. I had the opportunity to ride it back in 1994 and chickened out in the station. It would be interesting how Steel Phantom would have fit in here. Height #1, Speed #1, Pacing #1. The ride approached those inversions with so much speed

7:30 bruh, even Alan Schilke said that wasn't what put the final nail in the coffin, it just drained their resoures; they could have recovered if the fishhook coaster that was supposed to go to Vegas had gone through, but because that got shut down, and so did they
