Which boots should YOU ride in, MX or ADV?

DR adventure rider here. I just got myself a pair of Alpinestar Corozal ADV Drystar. They are a good mix of MX and ADV. Strong in the armor department. More flat with a bit of a heel on the bottom. Oiled leather with only 2 clips. $40ish more than the Forma 👢. Out of the box quality and comfort from where I'm standing. Up the biker bits crew! 🤙

Alpine star tech 7 have an enduro sole option. Only difference between mx and enduro seems to be the sole and the waterproof membrane. the enduro tech 7 is also slightly more expensive.

I bought the same tech 7 enduro, great protection for my ankles too old to break bones, and I just bought pivot pegz to compensate for stiff boots

AHHHHHH! Mark, I'm sorry. I've been away from your channel for ages... not sure what happened, I stopped getting notifications... not sure why... and I lost track of you. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you you're one of my favorite folks from down under and you were a big part of the reason I went with a DR for my bike (the other big part was it was the only one I could AFFORD!) always used MX boot for the better ankle support , MX sole for boot to peg/ground feedback/feel still using the original Sidi CrossFire MX only had loctite super glue half 1 sole back on. water will kill a boot faster & rot between plastics & leather

Great review/comparison. Recently invested in a pair of Gaerne SG-12 Enduro boots for max protection (as a new dual sport rider). Great quality, but the memory foam is pretty thick around the ankle - good for support - but murder as far as comfort out of the box is concerned. Been breaking them in around the house. Took a while but they do start to mould to your feet/ankle and comfort improves significantly. A little way to go yet, but perseverance seems to work.

Mark, the Forma Terra Evo is a good mix of protection & comfort, and they don't squeak when you walk. Love my ones!

Another information vid, bloody good one. Now I keep my boots clean, I use boot polish to help them retain the waterproofing, I also use Dubbing which is the best, I have found, in keeping the leather and retaining the waterproof. I have the Forma Adventure boots, bloody love them comfortable and waterproof....so Thanks Mark..... David...Adelaide...Tiger 900GT & Scrambler

Like you Mark I have both versions, MX and Forma low Adv. When I know I'm doing full on off road I wear the MX. When just riding gravel/tar roads I use the Adv. I also have the Leatt Knee/shin guards now (thanks Pete). Plus I have 3 versions of boots for the street bike and a pair of gumbies for the quad in winter. ;)

Ah, the unicorn boot topic. My head is still spinning and I have been riding for 52 years. I prefer Enduro boots, I don't think they make them anymore. I miss the heel, helps me stay planted on the pegs. So I have different pairs of motocross boots. I have added a heel to one pair and left the other ones with their slick sole. The boot subject is like which 650 dual sport do you pick? It beats me Mark, I went ahead and bought them all. KLR with a tall windshield for the street, a modified xrl for woods riding, KLX for going stupid fast, DR for general fun. Different boots for each... I KNOW, I'M NUTS! You make a boot topic fun, I don't know how, but it's fun. Thanks Mark Texas

I had to adjust my shift lever up to get my MX boot under it. My ADV (TCX BAJA) boots just require ankle movement to shift where the MX (FLY MAVERIK cheap POS)boots takes the whole leg. DR650.

I use MX boots at the moment and was considering a pair of Forma adventure boots but I read that those boots are not the greatest when standing up on pegs. My DR650 has oversize and rather agressive pegs. Have you noticed any discomfort or sole damage to Forma Adventure boots soles?

In fairness You choose adventure boots over MX boots because adventure riding is not off road racing. You don't need as much protection but what you do need is a boot that's comfortable to walk in over longer distances.

Boots? Hmmmm I think it all depends on what you do most ( Keeping in mind that a lot of people would only have one pair) Mostly off road MX mostly sealed stuff adventure or road boots. enduro boots are basically mx boots with tread on the sole. mx boots are smooth so they slide if you put your foot down when cornering. enduro have tread so you can put your feet down and push your bike through mud or obstacles. the forma terrain tx enduro is the exact same boot as you have but with a stronger stitched sole with tread.

Yes there is a certain amount of restriction and loss of feel, but you get used to it. 👍

Mark you can't reconcile comfort over protection. Both are good boots and Forma a good brand.

The Forma has a waterproof membrane and the MX boot does not, hence the price similarity. The waterproofing is a great asset until it gets wet on the inside either from when the membrane breaks down or you get in water a little bit deep, they take an eternity to dry, I much prefer the protection feature. In my opinion adventure is about the unknown, where does a road go type thing, so better to be prepared for that unknown, if I wanted to be safer I would not take the road less traveled but the safer route then the adventure is not there so no need to be so prepared. In other words, adventure means MX type boots, less adventure, adventure boots, same goes with bikes, more adventure, dual sport bike, less adventure, adventure bike. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
