Just got back from a Bushcraft Gathering up in Maine (Moose Ridge and Wilder Waters combined their gatherings this year). Thanks in part to you and your guidance (along with expert instruction from Arthur Haines over several years, plus some great tips from a talented young archer named Kaelin), I won the traditional archery competition, along with a cash prize that covered half the cost of my entire stay. I've only been shooting for 2,5 years now, so I'm a beginner. I also watch your videos a lot. why am I hearing for the first time that shooting with an arrow that is too light can be harmful to your bow. Jeff, first thanks for all your material! I’m an avid compound bow hunter but for approximately a year now I’ve been learning to shoot a traditional bow that belonged to my late father passed down from his uncle. It is a Ben Pearson stratojet fiberglass bow at 66 inches. He had the bow strung when I was a kid but never shot it much and it was stored strung. For the last year I have shot it and with 500 spine arrows have got it to shoot pretty well. Do you have any knowledge of these bows and what string material I need to purchase? I do not know what material the current string is. These bows were made throughout the early 60’s. It is labeled hunting bow and with a hand scale I’m pulling 45 lbs with it. It likes a 7 inch brace height and 7/16 nock height. No other markings are on the bow besides Ben Pearson Strato Jet hunting bow. I was calling it a longbow but an archery shop explained it is technically a recurve due to the slight forward curve on the ends and string contact. I’m from central Arkansas and Ben Pearson was from here also being my late fathers bow it’s neat to be shooting it. Thanks for your time and all the help you’ve provided thus far!

The true test for noise is comparison with no quiver or silencers. Same arrows and same brace height. My Bodnik Quick Stick is super quiet with a D97. I prefer it over the blended thin Whisper string it came with. I’m really wanting to try the BCY 652 on it (original FF).
@danielklee29335 ай бұрын
If you had the camera on the side, viewing the profile, it appears even quieter. I think it is because the noise vibrations bounce off the belly of the bow. So the shooter hears it more than a bystander. So you know Jeff's bows are super quiet. I would add to some fellas who resist this info and still want to put D97 on an older longbow. Make sure the loops are well padded, lest you want to say goodbye to your bow. B50 was quiet, but it seemed like it stretch for the life of the bow lol. Great video Jeff.

Just remember to know your actual draw and account for that: for every inch above or below 28 you gain or lose 3 pounds something like that. So you might be safe where you are if you;re on the small half of average. I get very frustrated by my trajectory when I get up around 11 grains per pound, 8-9 is a lot more fun.

Just sent it back because I realized that the riser face where the top limb seats is not square with the riser, which twists the limb slightly... the shop will replace it. About the arrow lenght, it is up to you, if you shoot gap will need a longer arrow, if you shoot instinctive it can get very close to your hand, just enough for not cutting yourself with the broadhead.
