Great to see your son out with you. He'll remember that outing forever. I know cherish those memories I had as a kid fishing with dad. Cool to see you trying different baits. Almost seems like they don't know what they like either but they're like, OH that's different let's go taste some turkey lol. Would be cool to see you try even more different baits. Happy Thanksgiving.

In my years of crabbing, the absolute best crab bait is fresh tuna carcasses.

Don’t sleep on fresh broken up clams too. I use tuna scraps/pork fat trimmings/ clams here in WA and do pretty well. Minimum 3 hr soak

We caught large pacific mackeral off the central coast of oregon cut them in 5 or 6 sections each the size of a baitbox that was the best crab bait second to salmon scraps the locals use turkey ,that came in last place for bait .

Turkeys cost Bank this year, hope you found a deal. I used to make crab dip with cream cheese, mayonaise, garlic and lemon.

Looks like a beautiful calm day out and i'm glad your son can enjoy the day out with you. Do you think if you cut up the tuna head and the turkey into smaller pieces would have caught more crabs? It may have helped to disperse oils out there.

The crab looking good this much larger than last few years I wish I still young like you I am waiting for commercial crab hoping for 5.00 a lb for live crab like last yr.

i watched the video where you were going for bluefin with taku. and noticed you in his videos. i noticed you dont have any of the clips or the same angle taku had filmed, this showed more details on what was going on imo. you should also put another camera by the cleat or port quarter showing the whole view of what is going on in the boat. you also looked good in those angles.

Chris, if you are outing for crabs again and use turkey for bait, can you slice it and see it is working? Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍁🍽!!

Chris instead of using dumbbells to weight your conical hoop nets, try chain galvanized or rubber coated held in with zip ties.

Lots of things you did wrong. If you're going crabbing or fishing, don't go youtubing. Never put cameras in traps, the electromagnetic frequency keep them away. The tuna head should never be used, crabs don't hunt and eat tuna. You can use the turkey but at least cut it up or use parts so the scent can travel along the current. Yes the tide and current flow palys a huge part in it. If the current is flowing, the bait scent is travelling and the crabs will move to the bait. Too many shorts in one place, move pots. Try to calculate the weight in your basket and allow for a avge Max crab weight so you don't strain your winch. Walk with some extra chopped up fish chum for the birds. It keeps them away from grabbing up the crabs you do throw back. As a fisherman, do more research and see what other crabbers do and just follow. Don't waste time doing crap. Well you can waste time if you want, it's your time and channel. Never forget how fortunate you are the have the opportunity to have the means to do what you do. Always be humble.
