The popeyes sandwich is completely made in house, they start as fillets, and they’re hand floured and battered in different mixtures than used for the regular chicken. Freshness is a huge factor in food quality, so I feel like if Matt had the Popeye’s fresh then it would be S tier.

I respect Matt's takes more than most others because he 1. Ate the entire thing on all of them in one sitting 2. He got them all ahead of time and let them get cold all the same 3. My opinion is that Popeyes has the best regular sandwich and BK has the best spicy. Its super tasty and unlike popeyes its actually spicy. A bit sloppy sometimes though. Still delicious (especially for a fast food joint). BK really nailed it with their chicken sandwich.

Not sure who pioneered the “chicken sandwich”, but the spicy chicken sandwich originated with Wendy’s. It’s been around 30 years. I’ve been ordering them the whole time. I once watched a documentary, yes it was very late and I was bored, that said the majority of Wendy’s sales went to the spicy chicken sandwich. It was such a phenomenon that in due time all these other fast food chains copied Wendy’s with the goal to replicate their success.

Chickfilas sandwiches were about an 1.5" thick and stuck out of the bun until about 4 years ago. I remember the week I started noticing the change in size.. They started cutting food costs which essentially is a price increase in a sense. Now that their drive thru lines are out of the parking lot, they can downsize their sandwich and people will keep coming.
