*Clone Wars 2003:* Aimed towards visual storytelling. Things are less "joyful" in this depiction of the war. The CIS fight harder this time against the Republic, and various villains are respectable in their own, specially General Grievous, an almost unstopable terminator, who even seems to go beyond the realms of the overnatural. The general context looks more grim. Clones are portrayed very to the letter as Prime Minister Lama Su ensured to Obi-Wan in Attack Of The Clones, creative, yet still very sumise. Other characters such as Jedi maintain almost as faithful as they were already. Characters and story in general were made more to serve an event (Assaj for example was just a way to increase Anakin´s footsteps in the path of the darkside) rather than developing themselves as characters. *The Clone Wars 2008:* Aimed towards more dialogue storytelling. Though still the war is dangerous, this depiction is more "joyful" (there are more jokes and simply non combat situations here). The CIS unfortunately became most of the time like satudary villains that rarely win a fight, more like a joke, a nuisance. Some villains like Assaj Ventress maintain their current power and status levels, while others are criminally nerfed such as General Grievous. Politics and background war work have more presence in TCW than in CW. Clone Wars 2003 always was showing the crude reality of battlefield, while TCW tried to incorporate that also politics were fundamental in the war. General context, thought it becomes darker and grim with the pass of the seasons, is not as "crude" as in CW. Cloen Troopers are given a soul this time, and if it wasn´t because of this show, probably Clone Troopers would not be so lovely loved in the fandom. Characters and story was developed more to develop themselves, rather than to serve to events.

08 was better. 03 was just explosions

@Nonetute If that's how you interpreted 03 Clone Wars then you are simply unable to comprehend subtle storytelling.

People who actually think 03 tells better stories are crazy

I like both. But the 2008 clone wars is better.

I don't even see how this is a contest. In my opinion The Clone Wars cemented itself as the best star wars media out there imo. ESPECIALLY after The Siege of Mandalore added to the resume, which that alone as a "movie" is probably top 3 or arguably best star wars "movie", it was incredible. Then you add the Umbara arc, Maul's underworld rule, Obi Wan going undercover as a BOUNTY HUNTER??? Like come on lol Venteess' story, Ahsoka's story, Savage, the list goes on and on

Personally, the original was better, the stories were focused on characters we cared about, it explained enough of the Clone Wars to keep us interested, since the the first six episodes of Star Wars proper is about the fall and redemption of Anikan Skywalker it was focused on him and what lead to him becoming Darth Vader, but left out enough to not overwhelm the viewers, significantly fewer retcons (the series jumped the shark when they retconned that Maul surprised as far as I am concerned) and was to the point.

Comparing these isn't fair to either show. That said, 08 by at least a parsec.

Imo ofc

2003 clone wars was just so much shorter it’s hard to do a fair comparison. 08 had more time to develop and flesh out characters making it superior to 03 in all but action.
