I used the Sugar and Cream on your "Wash Your Hands" towels pattern on my rigid heddle. They came out very nice--I liked your pattern very much. I concur in your assessment of using Sugar and Cream on things like hand towels as opposed to dish towels, or tea towels, though. I had to detangle the fringe when I washed them and then I had to wipe out the fibers the towels left in the tub in my washing machine. I washed them (and dried them) on hot, and they only shrank maybe half an inch all around. Very good for a first washing and finish. The colors didn't run or bleed and I was using a bright red, white and green.

Hi Kelly, thank you for all of this useful information. It can be really difficult to find the correct yarn for weaving project so this is super helpful. I wanted to add hobbii yarn from Denmark. You can buy big cones (1700m) of 8/4 cotton in a variety of colours and the more cones you buy, the cheaper it is. Very useful for people who live in Europe as shipping is not too bad. Thank you again Kelly, it is always so lovely to listen to your videos 😊

I am using Hobbi 8/4 cotton cones for dish towels. Works up beautifully, very absorbent and durable with daily use and regular washing.

The only cotton I’ve used for crochet so far has been the lily cream and sugar to make a dishcloth. I’m a new crocheter and man using that compared to acrylic was night and day. I live in TX so I’d like a softer cotton I can use to make wearables

Thank you Kelly for sharing. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Loved your video (as always). I'm in Europe and most of my weaving projects so far were woven with HOBBII 8/4 cotton (dishtowels) and HOBBII 8/8 cotton (placemats). Hobbii is a Danish yarn company, they ship all over the world and I think the yarn has a very good quality and it is also quite affordable.

As long as you can afford the shipping. No idea why but MINIMUM shipping cost to NZ is $30.00.

This video was really helpful Kelly, thank you. I’m another fan of the Hobbii 8/4 cotton. I use it a lot and really recommend it. I love the feel of Sugar and Cream when it’s woven, but the only time I wove some, which was a red white and green combination, the red colour ran and left the white a dyed pink after I wet finished it. Perhaps it was just a rogue batch of yarn because everyone seems to love it, so I might try it again.
@KellyCasanova

Sugar n Cream is known to bleed, so I don't think it was just your batch, you have to be careful with it in the wet finishing step.

Thank you for this video. As a new weaver I've been working on tea towels using I love this cotton, it is nice but maybe a little to thick. I purchased a sport weight from local yarn shop: Bamboo Pop Sock made in Turkey. Blend of cotton and bamboo. Shop owner recommended it. I hope it works well for tea towels, We'll see.

Cotton and bamboo should be good for towels - bamboo is absorbent. What size heddle are you using for the cotton?

Like others below, I have some LB 24/7 cotton. It is not soft or lofty. It's in a sample weave I have on the loom right now. I'm interested in seeing how it will go with wet finishing. I was thinking it might work as a table runner or placemats. It might make a good market bag.

The I love this cotton yarn that you showed available for purchase from Amazon, this is a cotton yarn in Hobby Lobby stores in the US. Hobby Lobby does have it online store and the price would be half of what that Amazon was showing. Also Hobby Lobby does a 30% off every other week so it's cheaper. Great yarn but Amazon you have to really be careful because those are third party sellers and they price it like they want. Loved your review

Now I hate Hobby Lobby as a company BUT if you’re in the states, they have their own brand that’s a dupe for Sugar ‘n’ Cream. It’s called crafters secret. It’s a nice worsted weight cotton that doesn’t seem to shed on the rigid heddle loom. They have other cotton yarns that did shed on the loom but the Crafter’s Secret cotton made some nice hand towels for my first weaving project.

That's interesting Traci. Regarding the absorbency, cotton often seems a bit water repellant to begin with, but with use and a couple of washes this greatly improves. Just something to keep in mind.

I usually hand wash most of my woven items, but for towels I machine wash in cold water. A hand wash definitely makes the item last longer.
