2:55 Why do Americans always make this excuse? According to this own video Spain has one of the best healthcare systems even though it has 8 times the population of Singapore. America then has 7 times the population of Spain and we're meant to believe that it suddenly isn't doable? Nonsense.

I think it is because Americans are pain averse. They would rather cook up reasons to avoid to the obviously right thing, in order to save themselves some temporary pain.

If you need a hair treatment it can be 2-4 months for the first consultation with a dermatologist because it does not endanger your life. I am Spanish, and you get specialized surgeries if you need it... My aunt was operated like 7 different times of different tumours, and them of the back because she got an hernia for being in the hospital bed for too long... Both my aunts had and implant in both their knees, my mom is getting operated because of a injury in her arm, the C section or have a baby is free, the ambulance is free, most medicines are free if you get a medical prescription, if not you pay a symbolic amount (nothing near the US cost), even the Contraception pills are usually not more that 20 quid... I mean... And we are 46 million Spaniards that also treat people living in Spain that don't have the nationality and are only residences (meaning they don't pay a tax) so... If we can afford public health care for 46 million people (meaning only the people that work pay for it, and not even them directly, but their boss gives like 200 for each worker before even given their salary) I don't know why 327 million people could not afford it 🤔.... Oh wait, I know! Because health care is not look at as a necessity but as a privilege from which you can make business out of lol God Bless America guys

I lived in both Hong Kong and Singapore for a significant amount of time before. And i didnt notice the low cost of healthy until i live in Canada, another good health care country. Hong Kong and Singapore even provide low cost medical service to tourists or foreigners. If u got sick like say fever or broken elbow (touch wood), u can go to those walk in clinic or local hospital and they charge u very little. My friend from Belgium got into a car accident and required to stay in local hospital, he paid like $100 USD only. Not only do the cost is kept very affordable, the care and standard were very high too. Both countries were highly educated, just look at their universities' ranking on the global scale. I have to give them credit and recognition for providing health care to people. Their government really emphasize ethic rather than just all about money. Also, to be fair, these countries have like 5-7 millions people only, its a lot easier to manage. And their city (country for singapore) are only as big as a LA, so its a lot easier to manage

A problem with the rankings is, which data point you give more value. I have seen many rankings of healthcare systems and each time it was another country. I have seen my country on top, The Netherlands, but in another survey, it was France, one time it was Brittain, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. And most of those surveys look at the same data points, like cost, accessibility, healthcare outcomes, average life expectancy, etc. However, the differences in those surveys are, how much value you give each data point. The only country where all those surveys agree upon, the USA always somewhere on the bottom of those charts.....

In Hong Kong during flu peak season in public hospital you might have to wait up to 4-5 hours just to see one doctor. Because the government sector of Hong Kong for doctors is really low. Which means we have shortage of health workers but we still have the best healthcare service but we just have to wait longer which is of course annoying

Malaysia has handled the situation better than Singapore ( except for the dormitories cos If I’m not wrong non-dormitories cases here is at around 2000) . Singapore also has a very Low death rate , 12 deaths for the 12,000 cases we have now . In contrary , ( and not to discredit the good work malaysia has put ) you have lesser cases but 7-8 times more the number of deaths

The only thing to love about Turkey is its health system. My arm was broken, my cheek was cut, I had a lot of stitches, I had a convulsion, I was hospitalized for 15 days and even I was given food 3 times a day. I didn't pay any of them. I heard that calling an ambulance is paid in other countries, but it is free in Turkey. In my opinion, Turkey is among the best in the healthcare system.

Having great health system is one thing, but even more important than that is to educate citizens how to take care of their health. Because hospitals are the last resort, once you need medical help you have already failed to take care of yourself. Doctors are "mending" health and not preventing health problems in the future. So I think that one great thing we should do is learn about how to take care of ourselves and have people in the healthcare system that can advise us on how to do that without tons of pills and expensive treatment.

Yes, taking care of one's health is important, and doing things that put your health at risk (e.g. smoking) is just asking for trouble. But it's also worth keeping in mind that many ailments can occur regardless of how well you look after yourself, for example genetic disorders, cancer, and of course unforeseeable accidents. It's not always someone's fault they are sick, and no one should have to pay excessive amounts of money for something they have no control over.

A financial analysis by an American 'capitalist' advisory and investment instrument (Bloomberg) is hardly unbiased (note no1 pick is a 2 tier system) Translation one for the rich - one for the poor. And Americans just can't let go of the whole 'wait times' thing which is their favourite demon of single payer and mantra for success. It is an American artifact that you can have ZERO wait times, because 1. money talks. 2. For profit hospitals grow like mushrooms, tons of space and bored doctors. In single payer countries emergency medicine IS delivered. What is NOT is elective surgeries, they are prioritized and yes you will have to wait. Boo hoo. Just because Americans has forgotten what a queue is for - fairness. People are queued and resources are queued and illness is queued. (Yah that's right really sick people are served first.) Profit and shareholders built into your system guarantee you will NEVER have fair health care for all.

In Italy the situation is like in Hong Kong, with cheap tickets to access public health care system but with longer waiting time. If you want top notch cure and fast cure you go in private hospitals paying higher prices. But even private clinics have a mixed fiscal regime in which you pay a middle way ticket, more expensive than NHCS but cheaper than going fully private. Last but not least, in most of the collective job contracts (trade, turism, services...) are integrate health insurances that allows you to benefit from private clinics spending a third of what usually it costs.

Yes the NHS is under real strain at the moment, though it has been coming a long time. A lot of waste and wasted money through things being mishandled by incompetents. The old IT/computer nightmare/s and PFI debacle being just two big ones. Too many managers and being mismanaged by idiots is a big problem. The NHS is something of a mixed bag, depending on one's problem and location. Some of the speciality and specialist centres seem to be great. Gen Hospitals can be hit and miss, and General Practitioners appear pretty poor in the main. But it remains free at the point of contact/service. Could indeed be better, but it could by the same token be much MUCH worse.

@keitoimon
@keitoimon 5 жыл бұрын
Grid 88 because the prices aren't set . instead each hospital sets it's own prices and negotiates with lots and lots of individual ensurances. other places set the prices and there is more negotiating power when you're promising not only the 300 people living near the hospital that have your ensurancw but instead everyone that lives around the hospital. it's a bit like when you buy tons and tons of a product and then instead of buying it at the store price buy it from the factory itself, negotiate with it and and get cheaper prizes for buying more

Spain have 47 millions, and California have 39 millions I think you could think this , not in federal level , but state level But if you don't like the comparison , you can think in UE. If you add the population of Spain, Portugal, France ,Italy , Germany, ,Denmark, ,Belgium ,UK (well, now not in UK, but the system is the same) the population is roughly the same as USA There are difference among this states in UE , but every one of them are by far better the USA healthcare system

mmann66666 When Singapore modernized, we experimented with a heavily private-based system, expecting market forces to push costs down overall. We realized this was not actually the case, with hospitals focusing more on more expensive, better quality care to serve richer people than providing better healthcare for all. We re-pivoted to more government intervention, where the benchmark for services is set by government options, forcing private healthcare providers to compete with this new standard. Yes, we have considerable government intervention, but in our view it is the minimum to make the system work for all.
