Hi Erica, Chanel prices in Hong Kong is not too bad. Jumbo had a recent price increase , it’s HKD42,900( US$5,500), LV Twist GM HK$32,500 (US$4,166) and Speedy 30 HK$8050 (US$1032.05). As Hong Kong is a free port there’s no tax and therefore no tax refunds. Hong Kong dollar is also pegged to the greenback. The exchange rate is quite consistent at around 7.8 to a US dollar. The savings is not huge if you are coming from the US but the selection is good. For a small territory we have 7 LV stores and 8 Chanel stores not including one each in the airport terminal. Erica, if you shop at the boutiques in Heathrow or Charles de Gaulle, they will refund the full VAT, which is 20%. They don’t have a big selection but there are popular bags there. I picked up a Diorever and a Chanel WOC for 20% less

Tee Dang Im not sure about Charles de Gaulle but in Heathrow you get 15%-16% in Louis Vuitton and Chanel. I'm assuming the same for the other big name brands. I have never gotten the full 20%. I wonder if they keep it as a 'processing fee'.

When made with Chinese leather you never know where it comes from or what the leather is made of*preluxz* .

If you go to the Global Blue website it takes all of the guess work out of how much VAT you will get back. Just pick the country, add in the price of the item and it automatically calculates it for you. So you can do a comparison for several different countries right on the spot.

Coming from London, if you build up a rapport by spending 💵 you can get anything. Even sometimes by just walking in, more so in Sloane street, smaller but as it’s in Knightsbridge they have everything and you can order all stock in from Paris within a day.

Seriously, if you ever teach a uni class you'd be the hottest teacher around! Anyway, thank you for doing all the maths, I always thought Australia is a lot more expensive. One thing to note is if you buy LV from the Heathrow airport shop, you save a whole 17% of the VAT. They have pretty limited stock, but there's a good chance you'll find the basics. I live in Indonesia where the prices are crazy and the import duties even crazier, so I always buy overseas whenever I could. If your currency is stable like the USD you probably won't have to worry about it so much, but overseas prices for me can vary a lot depending on the exchange rate. One time I lost 20% buying Gucci from HongKong (traditionally cheaper compared to Indonesia). My advice would be to call and check to compare prices before buying!

My favorite places to shop in Paris are Galeries Lafayette, Printemps & Bon Marche because you can get your VAT refund in cash the same day. It genius cos you'll most likely put that VAT back into their economy. Also you'll discover this while you're in Paris that Chanel raised their prices to match US prices. So I only shop there now to find things I cant get in the states. Hope youre having wonderful time in Paris, bon shopping cherie

Hey love, in toronto we do have a chanel store on bloor street. Plus in UK you get between 12-14% back and in heathrow you pay 17% less and you can call in the airpot shop and order in something specific that you want most of the time. ❤️❤️❤️

I saw a youtube video where an American was talking about trying to buy a Birkin in other European countries besides France. Excluding France, she basically said that it is impossible to buy them there unless you live in that country particularly Italy. The SA said they want to sell Birkins to the locals before selling to any foreigners but with the long wait lists, it's practically never going to reach down the list to the foreign customers. From what I remember, walking into a store to try to buy one is even harder. However, correct me if any of this is wrong.

If you plan not to bring the boxes home then wear the items. So you dont have to declare or pay tax in the US. The US customs check if you declare the goods on the form. But do this at your own risks!

My husband and his son took a cruise to the Bahama's after he graduated college. He brought me back a Faux Burberry Tattersal shoulder bag (plaid but pastel colors). I LOVED, loved, loved that purse like NO other I've ever owned. I have searched online, Ebay, Poshmark, everywhere that I could but I have NEVER come across another one like it. I believe Chanel is cheapest in Hong Kong....it’s supposedly 15% to 20% cheaper, but it’s harder to get a bag there, since it’s an international port.

Also I would like to share a few notes : - Japan ( tokyo) also has very unique items that you won't find anywhere else, and directly in the store they won't charge the sales tax ( 8% ), all you do is to show them your passport, in this way you don't have to do the Tax refund process at the Airport which sometime is a hassle and ... you still pay an extra commission if the money get refunded to you in one of your credit cards ( not all the time they will ask you to show the luxury goods as it has happened to me all the times). - Be aware that Paris airports are very strict about the veracity of the luxury good, I won't advise you to be tempted in buying a fashion item on the streets that is NOT ORIGINAL, I saw a lady once being pull on the side by the customs police because is a big felony there ( anywhere but specially there). FINAL ADVISE : In order to get the most affordable price on Premium designers Bags ( shoes, clothe ) on USA ( exclude Dior, Hermes, LV, Chanel )you can enjoy the sales, this will happen twice a year: November- December and May-June. Discounts would be from 30-50% OFF on stores like Valentino- Dolce & Gabbana - Versace- Gucci-YSL-Tom Ford etc.

Asia is expensive but the good thing is there is a wide selection just because of the number of boutiques. I live in Seoul and from what I can remember there are six Hermes boutiques (including a flagship that has the full collection), plus duty free shops both in the city and at the airports. Chanel and some other brands have started harmonizing their prices around the world, so the last couple of purchases I made at Chanel in Seoul were actually cheaper than they would have been in America. (So now whenever I visit the States and make up my wish list, I have to do some sleuthing to see whether I'll actually be getting a better deal over there.) And of course if you are an international tourist you can get the VAT refunds.

The netherlands is a great place to shop. The items are the same pricing as germany, but the vat in holland is 21% (that you can get returned!) there are manny (asian) tourists who are shopping in Amsterdam because its so cheap.
