I cannot recommend smart/ECO mode period ...on my Tucson if I pull out onto a road...the throttle is sooo unresponsive I have to floor it to keep from getting rear ended because the car crawls ....and this is leaving a normally safe margin for the approaching cars....normal mode works great and I get 34mpg in mixed driving....if traffic is super tight and I need to get out and going rapidly...I use sport mode and it is very nicely responsive without high revs....each car is different of course...so test yours out so you don't get caught short.

I’ve had my Sorento sx for a month now and I get 8.3/100 kms 28.5 mpg and is 80% city and is all in eco mode. Very impressive since the rating was I believe 11.1 city /100 kms.

Can you make a video that explains in great detail how the sorento PHEV drives in the various drive modes. A reviewer I was watching complained that in no mode (even EV) could you ensure that it wouldn’t use the gas engine. But they were flooring the gas, so I’m guessing it can’t floor in EV mode no matter what. It's all about how it feels to you. The Smart mode is going to put it into an ECO mode, unless you really get into the pedal. It's the mode that I recommend on that car for economy. Some people find the throttle to be a little lazy in any version of an eco mode, so if you feel that, then Normal mode would be better suited to you, and of course Sport mode makes the car a little more... immediate. Quicker reactions etc.

Hello I have a late 2019 Kia Sorento and it seems that I do not have the "wireless" version of Carplay (for iOS). Q1 Do I have to plug in to the USB? Q2 Will an update to Firmware and Software via SD Card add this wireless facility which appears to be there on 2020/21 version. Strangely my old 2014 Sorento connected automatically so that I could use Voice Control button to make phone calls to my contacts. On both cars Bluetooth is working correctly.

The 2019 Kia Sorento does not have wireless Apple CarPlay, the newer cars with the 8 inch screens do have that. I haven't heard of any software update that will allow the feature to work on previous model year vehicles, so I wouldn't expect it.

2021 sorento fwd S owner here. Question. Why when im in sport and try pulling onto the road from a stop with some speed does it rev so high it seems like something is gunna explode? I like the sport mode but it seems like its not meant for a 4 cylinder from dead stop to go.

Sport mode is designed to keep the revs up in order to keep the vehicle in its powerband. In general, I don't recommend that people drive all the time in sport mode in the more mainstream cars. It usually uses more fuel then people want, and the overall driveability isn't as smooth.

I recently purchased a 2024 KIA Sportage EX. I prefer driving in smart mode. But I dislike having to put it in Smart mode at each new startup. The owner's manual states that it should stay in smart mode once put there for each new startup. I took it to my local dealer and they could not make it happen either. Hey! My daily drive is a Sportage, like you I keep it in SMART mode. When I restart the engine, it does stay in SMART mode, but if I press down on drive/terrain mode button, it will revert it back to normal. However, if you just turn the engine on and don’t adjust the dial, you should stay in SMART mode.

Right you are. I finally realized the cluster color scheme on startup was that of the Smart mode. So I went ahead with driving and after about a minute the word Smart showed up on the instrument cluster. Smart and Normal are the only two modes that will retain their setting. Sport will roll back to normal. Thanks for your reply.

That button turns the auto start/stop on and off. So if you don't want your car turning the engine off at stoplights, that button can prevent that.

I believe that the PHEV's start in Eco mode, but to be fair, it doesn't have the same affect from the driver's seat as it would in a gasoline car. In a gasoline car, the car can resist downshifting in ECO mode, but in the PHEV you have that torque available, so driveability in that mode should still be fine.

My 2023 Kia Telluride is terrible on gas. I’m total I’m barely getting 400km on a full tank. I have been driving on eco mostly. When I fill the tank, it tells me total KMs I can get is around 480 which is still terrible. Others that I know with same model and year get much more. Is there something wrong with my Kia?

This is Kia's factory GPS. The last time I checked, we have free mapping updates for 10 years. It is a simple download on to a USB storage device (thumbdrive etc) and then you can upload it to the vehicle. We also have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in our vehicles now so you can use Google Maps, Apple Maps and others. In some of our vehicles you can connect your phone wirelessly for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Check out the KZbin Channel "Engineering Explained" as he has a good, science based video to show that this feature actually does save some fuel. After watching that, you can decide if it's worth it for you. It will also save some emissions which is also a good thing.

I always disable this feature. It's a waste of time. For the little bit of fuel it may save, and I doubt it saves any fuel at all, it's not worth the aggravation of having the engine stop/start every time you come to a stop. This feature just makes the tree huggers feel better.

I have a 2020 Niro PHEV. I'm concerned that the "liftgate room lamp" lacks an on/off switch. I tried to pry the light out so I could add a switch in series with the +12V lead using screwdrivers on the notches on the end & top but I'm afraid of breaking the light. Only when you want to drive a bit more aggressively. Passing maneuvers on a country road, driving quickly through a winding road. Towing a trailer up a hill. All of those will benefit from the car revving higher and being left in the powerband. Beyond that, you'll probably find that the extra fuel usage doesn't outweigh the extra fun. But it's up to you!

Those modes are simply designed to work with you. I usually drive in the ECO or Normal modes, the Sport is usually best just for more aggressive driving as it can lead to worse fuel economy. I would see which one works best for you. Eco works great if you drive relatively economically, but if you're a lead-foot, you may find that it doesn't shift when you want it to, and it fights what you're trying to do. Normal mode is great for most drivers, and Sport is good to make the car feel a little more peppy.

I think you could... but I'm not the one to advise you on that. There are some aftermarket LED packages that are not very good, so I wouldn't want to advise you on how, or what to do.

I've had my winter tires put on my 2021 Seltos.... the yellow indicator light shows that I need to fill up my tires. They look fine, does this happen because of the "winter tires" that are on ? Will the light disappear once I put my summer tires on ?

If your tires are properly inflated, this usually occurs because you don't have tire pressure monitors in your set of winter tires. If the car can't read the monitors, it will tell you that you have an issue. You can solve this by having monitors installed in your tires, but if you don't do that, you'll see the light on. When you return to your all season tires, the light will go off, and you will, once again, be able to see the exact pressure in each individual tire.

Some people don't like the way that mode dulls the throttles. Others don't like the way that the Power mode is jumpy on the throttle, and uses more fuel. It really just depends on what you prefer.

We don't have that model here in Canada yet. With hybrid vehicles, I find that most of my driving can be done in ECO and because of the electric torque, the eco mode provides the driving experience that I want, while still giving me the best mileage.

Same principal applies. If you drive efficiently, the ECO mode will work with you to get the best fuel economy. In that vehicle, if you're driving aggressively and you notice that the car resists downshifts but then revs excessively, you may find that the comfort (or normal) mode is the one that will return the best real world fuel efficiency.

In Canada, we don't have paddle shifting regeneration on our Niro Hybrid, it's only on our Niro EV.

I can't notice much difference between Comfort and Sport. In Sport it revs higher, but doesn't use any more fuel. So it must be smart enough to inject less fuel when it's cruising at constant speed.

If it's revving higher, it's using more fuel, so I think over the long haul, you'll notice the difference. The Sport mode keeps things in the powerband more so than the other modes.

So if smart mode saves you on fuel, why do they put Eco mode in a car like mine a 2020 Sedona LX if it doesn’t help your fuel mileage?

No, eco mode will definitely save you fuel, but you need to drive economically to get the benefit of that mode. If you drive aggressively, eco mode will resist the downshift as long as is reasonable, and then as the driver searches for more power by pressing the throttle further, the car will downshift aggressively and rev, potentially up to redline. Smart mode can help you maximize efficiency by helping you stay in eco mode, but if you need power it will avoid that high revving by sensing what you're trying to do. For many people, smart mode will get you the best real world fuel efficiency. Eco mode is great if you drive efficiently at all times. Smart mode is often better for the rest of us. Re-watch the video, to see what I'm saying, hopefully it will make more sense with this context.

Sooo… if ‘Smart’ setting gives best fuel efficiency across all others what’s the point of having the others? Why not just make the vehicle constantly fuel efficient 🤔

When I'm trying to merge on the highway and don't have the pickup to accelerate properly, I'm not thinking about saving gas. It comes in handy for stuff like that. Also when you're passing a sketchy driver on the highway or just any situation where you want to pass quicker without high revving your engine. Another example is when the speed limit is 60 and you're going uphill, you gotta high rev to maintain speed. There's always companies with bare bones car models and fuel efficiency. If you spend extra for nicer models you get options and options are cool. Also not everybody is concerned with wasting an extra 20-40$ a month(I'm sadly not in that club lol). If that's not an issue, driving in normal mode is better than eco. Eco can feel erratic. It's like the car is passively fighting to not let you accelerate sometimes.

Eco for traffic Smart mode for regular driving 😊 While Sport mode when u haven't had your coffee yet And Comfort when u see cop cars with radar gun ... 😅 Or at school & residential zones ✌✌❤

Can you really drive in all electric when you choose to? Is that Eco mode?

This video wasn't made with a PHEV in mind, but a regular car. If you have a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, than setting it to eco, and being mindful of your throttle usage can easily get the vehicle to drive in purely electric mode when it's not freezing cold outside.

I've had my 2.2 crdi for 2 weeks now and planting my foot in Eco mode the vehicle was gutless, I put it to sport and omfg its like it came to life - sport it stays idgaf about fuel usage.
