If I’m 10-15 yrs to retirement - dripping JEPQ - because I don’t need the dividends yet - is this smart to be invested in now or later closer to retirement or even in retirement?
@JerryRomineStocks15 күн бұрын
If you’re 10-15 years from retirement and reinvesting JEPQ’s dividends, you’re leveraging the power of compounding, which is smart for long-term growth. Starting now gives you more time in the market to build wealth, but remember, JEPQ’s tech-heavy exposure means volatility is part of the game. If you can handle the swings, it’s a solid strategy. Closer to retirement, you might want to shift toward balancing cash flow with safer options, but for now, JEPQ can work as a growth and income play if you stay disciplined.

@Jerry, i have another question. Dave Ramsey and others have said for retirement you should enough money into your 401k to get the company match and then max out a roth ira. I'm now thinking that doesn't make sense to put money into 2 different retirement funds because they will grow slower since the balances are smaller than stuffing it all into jist the 401k..Does my thinking make sense??
@JerryRomineStocks15 күн бұрын
I get where you’re coming from, but spreading your contributions across a 401k and a Roth IRA has real advantages. The 401k match is free money you don’t want to leave behind, and it lowers your taxable income now, while the Roth IRA grows tax-free and gives you tax-free income in retirement-a great hedge against future tax hikes. The growth rate depends on your investments, not the account size, so diversifying across these two accounts doesn’t slow you down. My non financial advice for entertainment purposes would be to get the full 401k match, max out the Roth IRA, and then put any extra back into the 401k. This strategy keeps you flexible, tax-efficient, and diversified for the long haul. If it makes you feel better I have a 401K, Roth, and a Roth 401K.

Thank you, Jerry! Great video and highly practical info. If I was a younger guy in their early 30s and wanted to retire today with 500K.... and was willing to live in Vietnam or the PH on 35K a year for 5-10 years, what brokerage portfolio would you recommend? 300K in JEPI, JEPQ and SVOL for income now and moderate growth. (Maybe have to pay 3-4K in taxes a year) 200K for the long haul with SCHD - SCHG - and a bit of SOXQ (After a slow down in chip demand, I expect those stocks to pick up in value again over the next 10 years. Will DCA and buy the dip in 2026/2028) I know I wont be able to contribute to the ROTH anymore, but will focus on steady, long-term growth there as well. Any ideas or suggestions?
@JerryRomineStocksКүн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! If you were younger and hypothetically retiring with 500K, I’d go for a mix like this: JEPQ for steady income, and QQQM and SCHG for more aggressive growth potential. This way, you get reliable cash flow while leveraging growth-focused ETFs for long-term upside. It’s a solid balance of income now and growth for later-perfect for your scenario. Of course, I'm not an advisor so everything is for entertainment. 😉

Very interesting. I was thinking about using JEPQ to be a baseline return driver to ensure I’ve always got something to pump into growth when the market is down and the growth stuff is cheaper to buy. How do I divert the dividends from JEPQ reinvestment into another etf purchase?

I think you'll have to do that manually. Dividend reinvestment options roll the dividend into the same stock/etf.

@JerryRomineStocks15 күн бұрын
The principles don’t change. In videos like this, I like to use a figure like $50K-it helps people see the overall numbers and grasp the concepts more clearly. For context, my own investments in these strategies are well over $500K. What’s really inspiring is that you’re here, learning, and working to improve yourself. Start with what you can afford and commit to a long-term approach. If all you have is $1,000, find a way to add $100 a month-or whatever fits your budget. Use your free time to level up your investing knowledge because that’s the real game-changer. Remember, long-term investing is a marathon, not a sprint. You’ve got this.

@JerryRomineStocks12 күн бұрын
At 30, you’re absolutely crushing it and, in my opinion, ahead of the game. Now, I’m not a financial advisor, but here’s my perspective: At 30, you’ve got the runway to lean more into growth. Personally, I’d allocate more into SCHG for its growth potential while keeping a solid position in JEPQ to balance it out. And those dividends? I’d reinvest them to let compounding do its magic.

I wish more people focused on the net return instead of obsessing over the expense ratio. Don’t get me wrong-I like a low expense ratio too. Great vid! If you were 53 with not much saved for retirement, would you pull 50k out of your homes equity to get into these etfs?
@JerryRomineStocks12 күн бұрын
For me, borrowing against my home is off the table. I sleep better knowing my house is paid off and secure. Sure, you could argue that by not leveraging my home equity, I'm missing out on potential investment gains. But let's not gloss over the fact that the stock market could go down, and there's a real chance you could lose money. Now, I'm not saying my approach is one-size-fits-all. Everyone's financial situation and comfort with risk are different. However, I do believe that investments like JEPQ and SCHG have their merits, especially for the long haul. Keep in mind, though, these are growth stock funds, so they're sensitive to shifts in the market and tech sector. A downturn there could spell trouble for these types of investments.

Thank you!!!
@JerryRomineStocks4 күн бұрын
Thanks for the support! With 20+ years to retirement, growth ETFs like SCHG often outpace dividend ETFs like JEPQ, but dividends provide stability and cash flow. A solid starting split could be 70% SCHG and 30% JEPQ, adjusting as your goals or risk tolerance evolve. Keep in mind, JEPQ dividends are not qualified. For tax efficiency, growth-focused ETFs like SCHG work great in a Roth IRA to keep compounding tax-free. Remember, I’m not a financial advisor-always do your own research!

@michellizollar992715 күн бұрын
Interesting question! I'm curious too
@JerryRomineStocks15 күн бұрын
Great question! If you hold JEPQ in a traditional IRA, the dividends are not taxed when they’re paid out-they grow tax-deferred within the account. However, when you withdraw money from the IRA, it’s taxed as ordinary income, regardless of whether it originally came from dividends, capital gains, or contributions. This means you don’t pay taxes on the dividends now, but you will when you take distributions in retirement. * I'm not a financial advisor so for entertainment purposes only. 😉

Some great content, but I'll be honest, I stopped watching after about ten minites! Too much repetitive content. So, that being said, maybe you discuss this later, but another con for JEPQ could be the taxation on dividends, as they generally are not qualified. So, true return could be much less when considering taxes as ordinary income. I own JEPQ in my HSA for the income, which could be used for unexpected medical costs.
