Fun fact about Fiat currency argument, In Fallout new vegas there is a quest called "Pressing matters" in which if you ask Alice McLafferty about the cap economy, she tells that there are a plenty of cap pressing machines, some of them are destroyed, but some are kept, so by that logic caps are no better than NCR dollars
@SUPERVANS56 Жыл бұрын
It's not bad because they have the capability to make more caps, it's bad because caps are backed by water instead of something like gold. Regardless, being backed by clean water is still better than fiat, which means the caps are better than the NCR dollar. McLafferty also says they recover or destroy the machines to keep them away from counterfeiters and keep the caps value stable.
@Joshua-fi4ji Жыл бұрын
@@SUPERVANS56being backed by clean water is fine when it's scarce, but when they come across an abundance of it, their economy will collapse. Given we know about DC having the massive purifier and distributing free water and there are large sources of fresh water inland (e.g. Zion), their economy will at some point crash from over-supply. Much like the Spanish Empires when they introduced excess gold and Silver from the Americas into their gold backed economy. The West Coast and Mojave may be desserts and heavily bombed, but they are expanding into areas which aren't, as well as Caesar controlling areas which most likely have abundant fresh water.
@severalgmails6544 Жыл бұрын
Im pretty sure that Alice was talking about how there were counterfeit caps, meaning that there were new caps being produced which damages the cap economy since caps with value are the ones made pre-war. I may be wrong about this but please enlighten me if I made a mistake.

As much as House claims to be incorruptible, his massacre of the Kings, or even him asking you to wipe out Hidden Valley, (with the same energy as asking someone to fetch a newspaper) is chilling. @quirinoguy8665 Жыл бұрын
Well, you can spare the Kings with House... It just involves an unfortunate incident where they started shooting at my Courier for accidentally drawing out my brass knuckles thinking it is a deadly weapon that can harm several of them armed with guns, they shot at me first with no intention to fight back, and if you shoot some guy who is a third party by the way, that wants to negotiate a ceasefire just for showing some brass knuckles accidentally, then they deserved getting wiped out, peacekeeping soldier or not, they are too trigger happy for their own good, so yeah the Kings got spared and hell I never thought they would be wiped out in the first place because of that incident, my first impression of House is that he's a pretty cool and decent guy, has plenty of flaws but understandable, and besides I hated the Brotherhood after what they did to the Followers outpost and really internalized in me that they are a threat, in all my playthroughs I literally killed the Brotherhood over and over again, they are an evil faction and have no future, they need to be wiped out or the people of Mojave will suffer, the Kings though? Didn't deserve it, but yeah like I said it wasn't the ending slide of the Kings getting killed that was my first impression of House, it was them and securitrons teaming up to drive NCR forces and squatters out of Freeside instead.

You can make the NCR and House work together during All or Nothing through the Barter 100 option. NCR gets concessions from New Vegas in good faith to encourage their withdrawl from the Mojave. Then the NCR is also offered the opportunity of conquering the crippled Legion's territory with House's securitirons guarding NCR carvans through the Free Economic Zone of New Vegas, on top of guarantees for Fair Trade practices for FEZoNV-NCR trading. House extorts NCR over Hoover Dam electricity and Lake Mead water, NCR undercuts House with the caravan families, everyone wins. The Securitron Army, paired with the New California Republic Millitary, taking the fight to the Legion straight away, destroying them then liberating their inslaved population would create probably the most powerful regionally uncontested society in post-war America. This is on top of House's vast technological knowlage now being used to full effect. The Mojave is safest in this scenario, the only ending where neither NCR or Legion would ever stand to return aggressively ever again, no other ending allows for this. I'm fully willing to die on this hill because honestly I think this is objectively the best option possible.

The legion as was pointed out is ruled by the smartest, or the strongest with leadership up for grabs at a moments notice. To be fair, messing up Yes Man as badly as possible and putting Lanius in charge are both pretty evil. Caesar is quite clear that the Legions current form is not the final form he intends for it. Once he captures Vegas, he intends to use it as a capital and create a proper society (rather than simply a nomadic army). The sexism is and slavery is a means to an end, rather than Caesars vision, but this will not progress with Lanius in charge. Caesar definitely leans towards evil, but it's more of a case of "do the ends justify the means?". It's also hinted that he intends to groom the Courier to succeed him after his inevitable death. Lanius is plain evil though. Caesar is also aware that he cannot assimilate civilised citizens in the same way he assimilated tribals. I'm not saying he will achieve his vision, but his end goal isn't evil - just his methods.

I’ve heard house originally was even more beneficial to the Mohave than it was in the full game, but the devs realized they made him too much of a “default” for good couriers, so they had to add some flaws (one of which I think was the sudden and random invasion of Freeside).

49:40 As much as it pains me to say it as a House/Yes Man endings fan, there is technically one other ending besides BOS and Kings where House does questionable thing. If you make NCR side with Primm (which is possible since some players miss Primm Slim sheriff option or thinks a slow protectron ain't a good Sheriff candidate) then House ending states that "as a punishment, Primm is heavily taxed by House for their disloyalty" so... That's an interesting dilemma, NV does have an issue with end slides contradicting in game lore a bit, e.x. the Legate Lanius speech or barter checks imply that he isn't that big of a dumbass, and the Lonesome Road DLC implies that real Lanius isn't that big of a monster, Legate Lanius is first and foremost, *a symbol* aka all the talks about him being a monster is basically a propaganda, a symbol for Legion to use to create fear. The issue however is that ending slides where you side with Legion but Edward is dead, clearly imply that Lanius IS a dumb butcher who just slaughters for sht and giggles. Same issue I have with House endings, if you make Primm get NCR help and they leave, why does House punish them? Seems like it's ME who deserved a punishment since it's ME who made said alliance. Plus Primm is so far away from House, why does he fear em siding with NCR who already fled? Also Goodsprings ending maybe implies that he spies on Goodsprings which is again, why?

I would like to say one thing that I do feel is important, is indeed, Courier Intervention. Now I know you didn't want to include everything about it as that would take a long time and you already made a very long and impressive video, though I do think it is important in cases, as it shows what *can* be done, and what can't. Now I don't necessarily mean with the courier swooping in and solving every single problem like superman, I mean when it comes to choices and options that can be done to resolve quests, this speaks more to factions than it does the ability of the courier. To better explain this, look at the Brotherhood and compare how they are dealt with by the big factions, Yes Man of course can have this handled in many ways because this is you the player, if you couldn't make a choice that would just be a slap in the face so we're not going to look much at Courier/Yes man, but let's look at the others. The Legion, death, death and only death, Caesar has no respect for them, and no matter what you say or do, he will not change his ideas, and you cannot tell anyone else about this because Caesar is has the final say, you cannot tell Vulpes that it could be a good idea, Vulpes will not contradict the word of Caesar. House, death and only death, House views them as techno fetishists and wants them gone, there is no convincing House otherwise, they die and that's it. NCR, Moore wants them dead, Moore is a might makes right woman, there is no convincing Moore otherwise, BUT, you can bypass Moore, she is not the end all be all for the NCR, you have people like Crocker who want to extend the olive branch, and make peace with a faction. Likewise, for The Kings, Legion, all death, Caesar demands submission or death, House, very hard to manage it and you have to purposefully instigate violence and there was no telling that that was going to make House like them, NCR though you have Crocker wanting you to make peace with them, if it ends in violence, he's either disappointed it had to be this way despite your efforts, or downright pissed that you so recklessly ended this in slaughter. You're right that there is corruption in the NCR, bad apples who want to make money at the cost of lives and livelihoods, but that is not ALL there is in NCR. The others have autocrats ruling, dictators, what they say is the end of the discussion, and their will be done, NOTHING, the Courier can do can change how House or Caesar wants something done, now the courier can botch things up yes but that's more failure on your part, not finding an option to end something, and more finding a way to do it wrong (Getting kicked out of the omertas, failing to kill Kimball) but when Caesar or house demands you exterminate, you have only the option to exterminate, or turn on them. NCR does not have a soul leader, the one person you have to answer to, and that is what makes them the best faction in my eyes, you have bad apples, but genuine good in there as well, different aspects and avenues to go to achieve results, yes Moore is pissed when you make allies with the Brotherhood, and yeah, in a Republic, the war-hawks will be upset when the diplomats shut down their war, she is a representative of the war-hawks in the NCR, but not NCR as a whole, Crocker represents a much better side, and there you have the biggest difference. Once Tandi ran the NCR, now you have Kimball, but there are still good people who can make enough of a difference to really help the Mojave.

I feel like with the NCR, there is a big point missed with the actual people in it. And the NCR does genuinely have the most good people in it. People who are willing to go out of their way to help others are not that hard to find in the republic, at least compared to the other factions. The ideals that the NCR “pretends” to represent actually rub off on a lot of people in it, and sure, not a lot of those people are high in the ranks, but they do make enough decisions to make a good difference. Or least a more than negligible difference. Yes man is too unstable, the legion refuses to take the good of other civilizations and adapt, and house has lofty goals for improvement, but he only sees people as tools to step on to get to those goals. The NCR is the only group with some sort of morals that at least some people in it are bent on following. And that does make some difference in the end.

A few (friendly discussion) counter points to the Yes Man segment; I don't think YesMan's "insecurities" and "disapprovals" are the result of any kind of free will or own motives, just Benny being weird making him, Benny made him specifically to be not just always helpful but also always pleasing and these can be conflicting, YesMan has to always help which means he has to indicate to you if your decision may have negative outcomes, but he also can't tell you your wrong he has to please you, he does both by telling you the risk while saying he could be wrong and it's his fault etc, even tho he's dismissing the risk he's still telling you so you can reconsider, so he's still fulfilling that need to help you, but not telling you your wrong so he fulfills the need to please, combined with likely some specific weird touches from benny for enjoyment, but none of this implies a free will just his logical thoughts on your will. Even when he specifically says hes insecure it's still him directly fulfilling this, it's him not saying anything out loud because he doesn't want to displease you, but still telling you because he has to be helpful, the "insecurity" is just the conflict of his two directives, and him saying it's insecurity was still just him blaming himself for the issue because it would please you for it to not be your fault Then when he updates himself to be more assertive, this is still directly to fulfill the couriers will, literally all the courier had to do was walk up to him and say help me take over the Mojave and he had to say yes, and after it's done, anyone could do the same thing, the best way YesMan could help you as he has to do was to update himself so that no one could use him against the courier in the same way, he had to be more assertive or literally anyone who has the chance to speak to YesMan could take control of him and over throw the courier. Also and this is kinda a lazy point because it didn't happen in the game, but it was said by one of the creators that YesMan saying that was not a sign of him planning to overthrow you or take it over himself but just solely so that no one could take YesMan from the courier and no one could do what the courier did again Edit after finishing video: I also feel like you gave House the benefit of the doubt for everything you criticized other factions for, when the NCR wants to wipe out a faction you call it genocide, when House does you call it necessary. You said the Legion is doomed because Cesar lacks a true successor, but for House that's just a mild improvement he could make
@morvic31077 ай бұрын
I think there are three crucial misconceptions about the NCR used in this video. First, the expansion east is not fueled by greed - if it is, it certainly is not their primary motive, and there are several good reasons for this. It is rather neccessity. The NCR is already a de-facto state in the west, with established institutions and services like healthcare, which means its population will continue to grow naturally; it's an inevitable consequence of the advancement of standards of living. Add to this the post-apocalyptic setting, where the resources are drastically scarce. Expansion, or at the very least, scavenging expeditions, are not only logical but neccessary with a population that will only continue to grow. Consider also that the NCR is not the sole faction, meaning that if it does not expand and amass resources, another faction sooner or later will; in that scenario, the NCR is almost guaranteed to be either subjugated, conquered, or annihilated by another power which did something the NCR refused to do. Therefore, expansion towards the east *is not* fueled by NCR's greed, it's fueled by neccessity - it's game theory. You'll just run into a multitude of hardly resolvable issues if you don't expand. If greed plays a role in this, it's most certainly a secondary motivation. We might debate whether their way to expand was good or not, but I think the decision to expand itself is not up to debate or judgement here. Secondly, I feel like you are giving the NCR the same analytical treatment as you do for other factions in the Mojave, which I think is a mistake. We might debate the virtues and vices of their democracy, but they are still a democracy, while you treat them like a military dictatorship; as in, their ways will never-ever change, that they'll be genocidal maniacs and tyranical tax collectors in perpetuity. But the incredible advantage the NCR has is that their citizens can hold their leaders accountable, and elect people who can do away with all the terrible practices you (righfully) point out. Even if it might take years, it is not up to chance or benevolence of the dictator, but up to the *citizens* to change it. Autocrats can be disposed only through violence, which in such scenario inherently means revolution; but we know from the history of our world, that revolutions tend to create 3 problems in the place of 1 solved problem. Lastly, technically the only word we have for the vices of their democracy is the word of a few people, one of them Ceasar (who's just a moron, frankly speaking), claiming corruption and le 'big bureaucracy' (which btw. is a criticism used today, e.g. against the EU, who employs less bureaucrats in total than the city of Paris; meaning that this criticism might be completely without merit). We really do not have any true information on how the NCR functions internally; whether their type of democracy is a more European, centralized one, with less opportunities for direct citizen engagement, or the American one, based on strong self-governance. Long-term, I'd still bank on the citizens of the NCR being able to depose cruel leaders, rather than the benevolence of Mr. House or the Courier, or the Legion benevolently sparing the people of the Mojave. All in all, the video is still a great breakdown. Fun watch!

In Knights of the Old Republic 2, there was a dialogue option based on the choices you chose that determined that backstory from what happened in the first game, essentially telling the story of your character in the first game to that of the second which included some changes in dialogue and npcs as a result. If Fallout did do a continuation of NV, they could do it in such a way that either House or Yes man could become the villain depending on which dialogue options you pick and details kept vague enough from CL or NCR that either ending could have happened but Yes man drove them out.
@spindash64 Жыл бұрын
Even better: no matter what ending they want to make canon, Yes Man will still exist in that ending, unless they explicitly CHOOSE to write him out of it (for example, explaining that Mr House found Yes Man and took him offline somehow). The idea of an antagonist robot who wants to “help” humanity is also a lot scarier than one that’s just rehashing an old evil scheme, and perhaps even more in tune with the overarching themes of the series: even in the face of an apocalyptic world peace, _war never changes._

I always find it hilarious how people seem to be under the assumption that the day after the bombs dropped, raiders and tribals just emerged, fully formed as if by magic. And that the New Vegas gangs completely changed their personalities to join Mr. House. Remember The Kings are one of the "tribal" groups that didn't join up with House, or weren't invited to. It's more likely that Vegas' "tribals" were already pretty close to what we see in New Vegas just more open about their more violent and gruesome proclivities, and not nearly as well dressed.

You missed an important part of Caesars philosophy. The plan was never for the legion to stay as a sustainable permanent power. The plan was to bring civilization by force and crush all other societies that would eventually collapse before it naturally collapses on caesars death - it being replaced by something new and much better, an evolution of the legion. Caesar is an accelerationist.

Another point in favor for the house ending, is that house is not going to die any time soon unlike with the Legion or with the Yes Man ending. I'm guessing with yes man taking over he finds mr house's plans for vegas and institutes it into his ideas such as restarting the technological development and production centers around vegas in the ruins and I'm also assuming deep under the city as well and also you could just take mr house's place in the pod you'd just need a securitron to handle and to head out of the pod once in a while to acclimate to germs again
@MrJethroha Жыл бұрын
I sincerely disagree with the idea that House is a good leader at all. 2/3 of his allies in Vegas are actively conspiring against him and the other is filled with cannibals. He is an old world visionary and a genius, but not a leader of men. w/o the securitrons he is a paper tiger, even with them the courier can easily kill him without firing a shot. You say he is sometimes short sighted, but actually it is the opposite. The man is farsighted, he sees the big picture, but cannot see what's right in front of him. The existence of Yes Man is a testament to House's over confidence. House has big plans, but the next steps for him are impossible without the Courier. In general, House is dependent upon other to do his work for him, but he doesn't earn anyones genuine loyalty. Look at it this way: If the NCR didn't exist, could House have ever repaired Hoover Dam? Could his securitrons have actually done that work? Does he personally have the expertise to program them to do so? Do the three families have engineers? If he wants to reignite the old world technology sectors in 20 years, who is going to establish the schools to teach his future engineers grade school math and science? Who is he going to get to provide medical care to his highly valuable workers? And when the NCR eventually grows frustrated with House's high handed dealing who is really going to stick by his side? After say 10 years of easy living, are the three families going to be useful allies in a fight? House's fatal flaw is that he doesn't think like a wastelander, he thinks like a business man, he assumes that he can rely on a series of contracts and transactions to reconstitute civilization. In reality reestablishing society requires much more than a few favorable bargains. House doesn't really get why the Legion and NCR are so successful for the same reason he doesn't foresee his allies turning on him. Both the NCR and the Legion are far more politically unified and socially developed than New Vegas because they have a sense of identity and purpose. Even Westside is more of a civilization than the Strip. The Strip is nothing but a confederation of murderers, rapists, and cannibals led by a strong man with big ideas and a few big guns. House doesn't live in the world he is trying to conquer, he has no sense for the people he intends to rule. He doesn't offer an alternative path for the Mojave to rally around, only a new boss to follow. You left our many things in the overview of lore on House. See he IS just as genocidal and grasping as the NCR or Legion, he's just been at it for a shorter amount of time. He only started his take over of Vegas AFTER he detected the NCR entering the Mojave a few years ago. At that time the Khans were the most powerful tribe in the Mojave, and the fiends and residents of vegas were their allies. House used the three families to force them out of Vegas and towards their eventual demise at Bitter Springs. Equally, the residents of Vault 21 got a similar treatment, when that group decided to join House, their reward was having their home filled with concrete and their residents cast to the wind. All of outer vegas got a similar treatment. To House, there are only employees, customers, and competitors i.e. servants, suckers, and enemies. House's "territory" is just as much stolen land as everywhere else in the Mojave, and he intends to take it all. Do you really believe that House will be satisfied with the resources of the Mojave? If he intends to got to space, he'll need much much more than that. Whatever grand ideas he holds to have very little to do with human well being, and everything to do with his own ambition. Going to the stars in 50 years doesn't help anyone, it just satisfies his own sense of greatness. House's plan is to collect and then spend resources to get what he needs, but there are some resources so precious they are impossible to buy. Human infrastructure is just as much a corner stone of civilization as something like the dam, and House has less than even Caesar. Caesar and the NCR build alliances all over the Mojave, while House ignores or rejects people who might become loyal constituents of a renovated New Vegas. The Kings, the Followers, the people of Westside, Northside, and Freeside, the people of Goodsprings, Primm, Novac, and Jacobstown, hell even the Khans could have made useful allies. Most importantly they'd be in favor of an independent Vegas and need a powerful ally. To House they are irrelevant and disposable. He's got his den of snakes all settled, and he's not hiring any more at the moment. See this is the ultimate proof of House's failure: Everyone in the Mojave says the Legion sucks ass and the NCR are only moderately better, but no one, not even the three families say: "And that's why I support Mr. House and his vision for the future." Because he isn't a person to them. He doesn't talk to anyone. He doesn't even try to advocate for himself or his ideas because he isn't a real leader. He's reclusive, old world relic who never liked people in the first place. No one is ever going to be loyal to a face on a screen just because he has an army of robots behind him. The courier is the one who earns peoples trust, the courier is the one who holds the fate of the Mojave in their hands. House is just the weakest of three powers who depends on the unearned loyalty of a wastelander to achieve anything at all. The fact is that without the Courier, ALL major factions in the Mojave are doomed. W/O us the NCR will lose Hoover Dam, House will not be able to make his move against a victorious Legion, and Caesar will die in a few years time. If only the Couriers actions can determine the future of the Mojave, and the end result is up to their whims, then letting the Courier run the whole show is the most fitting conclusion. If the Courier is evil, then obviously it sucks, but if that's the case then the Courier would probably betray House anyways. If the Courier is good, then the Independent ending has the greatest chance to produce immediate and lasting benefits to the Mojave because unlike any other faction, the Courier is capable of making loyal local allies and responding to the needs that wastelander's face.

30:20 You know that's the first time I heard this. I never heard Hegelian Dialectics used AGAINST Caesar and how despite him talking about synthesis, he never changed Legion besides replacing Graham. That's a very good point! They wouldn't even need to change much, game implies that without Courier, Legion is more likely to win, Legion just needs to modernize everything slightly, and try to be, better negotiators? Try to work with Mojave tribes. I wonder if it would be way cooler ending if Legion actually KEPT their words to Khans? Imagine you doing Legion oath thinking you gonna be bad boy and assimilate Khans, only to learn that Legion kept his promise and turned them into a better faction. Also idk if you heard this but there was a video about how BOS and Legion alliance makes more sense then NCR BOS alliance. Caesar, instead of eradicating them, could've used them. He said his warriors are forbidden from using (or even seeing) too high tech, like Securitrons. What if he incorporated BOS into Legion mythos? Where BOS basically serves the role of Tech scavengers, they remove technology that Caesar deems "bad" and BOS gets to "keep dangerous tech from tribals" it's literally perfect Unity whete both sides benefit . Seriously I think my proposal for Khans and BOS wouldn't change Legion much but would atleast make a better argument for why Legion is more stable. If Caesar followed his advice of dialectics, he should've changed his tactics. He should've let some tribes stay like Khans, or incorporate some tribes without eradicating their identity entirely, like BOS. If they'd done that, they'd have way stronger Mojave again NCR

I would argue while perhaps not being the best ending, the Independent ending makes the most thematic sense. I'd argue the most important theme of Fallout New Vegas is the need to let go of the past, to begin again, to replace old world blues with new world hope. Then looking at the factions we see the NCR emulating the Pre-War government and falling in all its pitfalls, the Legion regressing into reactionary totalitarianism in a forgery of ancient Rome, and Mr. House is a literal artifact of the old world who has made his fief into a copy of the Vegas he used to know. Only a Independent New Vegas is a truly new idea in the Mojave not derivative of the old world, thus the only one fitting to rule it. Either the Independent or House endings are also better for the NCR in the long run than the NCR ending. In the NCR ending Kimball's warhawks are justified, Colonel Moore is promoted, General Oliver becomes a hero of the Republic and the NCR continues it's manifest destiny. In contrast if the NCR loses to the "moderates" we see Oliver getting sacked, Moore at the very least not getting promoted, Kimball is bound to lose the next presidential election and more liberal politicians like Hanlon get elected to the NCR senate.

@doughboywhine Жыл бұрын
I would just like to say on Caesar's Legion, that you kind of misrepresented them in some areas. -First, they do not really intend to use the dam. As their society shuns the use of technology, it seems they mainly intend to use it as a bridge to march their troops across the river and invade the Mojave. -While they aren't mentioned assimilating any tribes other than the great khans, I'm fairly certain a large amount of their soldiers are actually born into the legion, so taking slaves as they do furthers that goal. -It can also be seen throughout the game that Caesar is grooming the Courier as an heir to the throne, so while without courier intervention he would die and pass the mantle to Lanius, it seems the Caesar himself does not wish for him to lead the legion. -You also mention that they have no agriculture, but I think it is important to keep in mind that we only ever see their army camps and never their towns, cities, farms, etc. likely because of time restraints. They also likely have tribal healers, and while maybe not as well educated as doctors would still fill the role. -Lastly, I think the point Caesar is making with his Hegelian dialectics speech is that the NCR is too large to simply assimilate like the other tribes he has conquered. He would have to make concessions for his subjects to accept the rule of their master which would fundamentally change the Legion. A lot of people point out the hypocrisy of "the NCR is based on an old society, it is doomed to be destroyed" but I think that Caesar believes that through this transformation, he will create a brand new society based on nothing before. Granted, I do not support the Legion, I actually think they are the worst ending, I just thought the arguments they make deserve more credit than given in the video.

I VERY MUCH disagree with the assertation that Mr. House is the best choice for the Mohave. Mr. House to me comes off as an intelligent corpocrat, a greedy executive who knows not to shoot at his customers but one who ultimately doesn't really care about their wellbeing. I don't doubt he believes his vision for mankind is the best course of action, but his ideas would likely result in a cuberpunk corporate dystopia rather than anything that helps the common man. My reasoning for this is based less on what he does in-game, and more what he did pre-war. First off, he is of the same stock of greedy pre-war corporate executives responsible for turning the United States into a hell hole before the nukes started flying, and he actually played a bigger role in that transformation considering he supplied the US military with robots, a roundabout form of arms dealing. Those same robots, I might add, were likely used in the invasion of Canada and the atrocities therein. And it's clear he didn't have any moral compunctions about that, since the same year RobCo began work on Liberty Prime. After the war, he geared New Vegas' economy towards nothing actually productive or useful but instead towards gambling. Now, that's an obvious choice to go for, I know, but it's not like he couldn't have hired the tribals and residents of vault 21 to try to start rebuilding right when he woke up and make New Vegas an industrial power right away. Remember, he woke up prior to the NCR scouts coming along, with the official game guide stating he woke up in 2138, over a century earlier. Where was he then for the Mohave? He only started to become a force in the wasteland when it became clear there were people advanced enough for him to bother exploiting-and I use the word exploit for a reason. Arms dealing and gambling are both two industries that require a certain disregard for individual's wellbeing. The former, obviously because your products exist solely to kill people-combat robots even moreso, really, since unlike a pistol I doubt you'd use a Sentry Bot for home defense. Gambling is not dissimilar from the tobacco industry in that they both try to get people addicted to a product/service, but unlike the tobacco industry, gambling is focused solely on screwing the customer as heavily as possible. Neither of these industries are the purview of someone who is terribly interested in the wellbeing of others. He has no interest in meddling in people's private lives not because he's dedicated to individual rights and freedoms, but because he doesn't see any value in it. I guarantee you he would be the type of executive who happily tracks everything his customers do online to sell the data, if he existed in our world. In fact, he does send Victor to Goodsprings specifically to spy on them according to an ending slide. It's clear Mr. House doesn't think much of the average Joe of the wasteland-just look at his self-written obituary. He may say that he has humanity's best interests, but I doubt he actually cares for the opinions of the common man. The fact that he kills the Kings if you don't get them on his side, and kills the Brotherhood no matter what, kinda prove that. He is perfectly willing to murder people if they stand in the way of his plans, the only reason he doesn't do it as often as the NCR or Legion is because he knows not to stretch his forces too thin, or to sacrifice potential customers. He's not an emperor, he's a CEO, which means he focuses solely on maximizing profits at the cost of consumers and his workers. To put it bluntly, I doubt he's tolerate a worker's union forming on his watch.

Sounds more like you just hate rich eccentrics who believe the ends justify the means. Most of your theory involves speculation and stabs in the dark, not facts. Mr. House was a man who, as he put, had a vision for the future. So when he says he wants what is best for the common man he genuinely believes the ideal future he is working toward would be exactly that. Exploiting those who get in the way in order to build his kingdom is really a minor aspect of who he is. After all, would you really consider barbarians and tribals who stand in your way as your kin? No they are an obstacle and you have deadlines to meet lest your dreams never actually come to fruition.

The politics of each faction is what really makes up new Vegas and the fallout games really good.

Independent is the one I personally go for In the base game, I agree with you But including the DLC, Specifically the Big MT technologies the Courier gets access to in Old World Blues and how you can bomb the NCR's main path into Vegas in Lonesome Road I'd honestly like to see the NCR or anybody TRY to take Vegas from me Even if the whole Yes Man goes rogue thing happens and he takes control of all House's securitrons I'm like, 90% sure I could disappear to Big MT for a few years and build my own army that's twice as impressive

People seem to forget that if your a diplomatic courier plus DLC, you basically get Allies to form a standing army, police, potentially a treasury and or finance department, a council and advisors, and other various things. Plus you have nukes and a robot army and if your Good Karma, beloved by citizens.

The fact you can make a convincing argument for each faction being the best based on something as simple as fiat vs gold backed currencies really shows how well written the game is. Well done! More please!

I find it kind of ironic that the NCR was basically created because of one mans help and that the NCR would fail in the Mojave if not for another ones help.

The Legion is the best faction because they have stronger soldiers, safer roads,no drug or alcohol abuse and don't rely on technology. In the end after working against the Legion and becoming idolized by all other factions with the exception of Goodsprings where I become the next best thing from being idolized. In the end when siding with the Legion the factions stop idolizing me but Goodsprings is least effected by the Legion win compared to other faction wins. In my opinion with the aid of the Enclave Remnants the Legion is the best ending.

I believe an independent courier Vagas is best. We'd be able to have proper taxation with representation where the ncr would slap a price tag and say " now pay it every month " likely without looking into if the city economy could support it. No legion, which would mean no regression to communal bathrooms sharing a sponge for wipping. No house so the rich wouldn't lord over freeside for their own entertainment and we could advance to the stars when we're ready for it and not rush it like how house trys too. Pluse history is usually unforgiving to empire builders( like ncr and legion), so anything to limit the rapid expansion of all the faction is good.
@Clarkamadorian Жыл бұрын
NCR and House are the two best options, but there really isn’t a “good” ending. Just an ending that doesn’t turn everything into even more of a dystopia than it is. The one where Mr. house and and NCR work together is basically the best one, but another comment does a better job explaining that one. Then again, I haven’t played Vegas in forever. I am certainly not up to speed on the current ideas being thrown around.

Amazing video, im sure this will get you to 1k subscribers alone. However whilst I was listening to your video I couldnt help but wonder about the side quests. Specifically what side quests, if any, had any lasting influence over the Mojave. For example could siding with Joe Cobb and defending the powder gangers at the NCR Correctional Facility led to an emerge of a new regional power in the area? I've always thought the Oasis quest in Fallout 3 is the most important in the game, despite not being part of the main quest due to the potential of spread of arable land Anyway thank you for the video, less than 100 subs from monetization now so keep it up. Good luck!

NCR, with caveats. If you can find a peaceful resolution to their conflict with the Kings, Khans, Followers, and Brotherhood, then with the Legion out of the way, they're golden.
@fonslygaming9780Ай бұрын
I think the thing that works with the NCR, is having someone really strong comi g through and making important decsisions and taking control of major issues. They needed a STRONG "get the job done" leader, and just didnt have enough to do it themselves

Mr House - he's gonna take humanity to the stars, that lad! Good commentary on Yes Man - everyone seems to ignore the obvious red flag with his ending - he'll become "more assertive." What could go wrong? It's not an "independent New Vegas ending", it's basically the "ChatGPT becomes self-aware and AI takes over" ending. Edit: Overall I've always agreed that Mr House is the best choice, and the only concern is - will he actually live as long as he thinks, in order to progress humanity? Because if he dies, we get the same story as the Legion if Caesar dies - everything falls apart.
@celestialdancer6293 Жыл бұрын
It's canonical from Joshua Sawyer that Yes Man's upgrade is so that no one can take him from you like you did from Benny, not that he was going his own way. Not a red flag imo

You know, I see a lot of people characterize the NCR as too weak and ineffectual to fight raiders, but they never seem to acknowledge that the only reason the Vipers, Jackals, and Khans are in the Mojave in the first place is that the NCR pushed them out of New California. All three of these gangs are descended from the inhabitants of Vault 15: the same vault the founders of the NCR, Shady Sands, came from. All of these groups came up in the same region, yet clearly the NCR must have been strong enough to push the raiders out of their homeland, or else they would still be there. If they could beat them in California, they can beat them in the Mojave, especially given the raiders' weakened state. They haven't yet, but only because they're solely focused on fighting the Legion. That's their top priority. If they manage to defeat the Legion (and, if we're judging the NCR based on how they would run the Mojave, we should assume that they do) picking off the raiders in the region would no doubt become the new top priority, and one they'd easily be able to accomplish.
