It's mentioned that Corruption and incompetent leadership are the reason for that. In short warhawks with no idea how to win and corrupt "democratic" lobbyists and Barons and corporations, fucked up that plan. Liberal democracy in a nutshell. Which is accurate because of how NCR is modeled after Current and Pre war in FO, America's. Including the imperialism. Now personally I believe NCR would need a revolution Ala 1917 or China 1949 style to eliminate these issues. Also possible slavery esqe conditions exist and The Desert Rangers hate that with a passion and likely some of NCR's Corruption and corporate greed. NCR could possibly enter a civil war post Hoover Dam loss victory might give it a few more decades of life but conditions would come to a head eventually. Provided courier solves all the NCR's issues, they might be considerably better off.

@Altom9417 ай бұрын
Have yet to watch the video but I do hope it covers one topic that is rarely touched. Namely, Legion's logistics. After all, they have: relatively lightly populated territory, no civillian administration to extract resources from said population, no or very light tax burden on the surviving people and no higher tech supply delivery method like rail, meaning they are subject to the wagon equatuon. Yet they somehow manage to establish and maintain a large permanent base for about a year in the middle of a desert. Quoth Benny: "How in the goddamn?"
@FlakoDaDon-Dada7 ай бұрын
They have plenty of civilians back East and they have to pay a "tribute". It's not basic taxes like the NCR but probably more of a weekly/monthly type thing.
@justanotheraccounthere20147 ай бұрын
There are a few things that work in Legion's favor in terms of logistics. Most of these are from Josh Sawyer's posts on various forums and cannot be found in game. Not the most ideal source of canon lore, but still better than nothing. Fallout universe has a lot of magic tech. Power sources that could literally last for centuries? An automatic robot capable of performing freaking brain surgery in non-sterilized environment with almost no medical supplies? A vial of fluid that can bring people back from almost death? Yeah, those things will make supplying a big army not as challenging as real life. Legion does not require as much supply as NCR due to their preference of simple, easy to maintain and often melee weaponry and their distaste of modern medicine. No need for bullets, gun oil, spare parts for firearm repair, drugs and stims, pay for soldiers, etc. Minimal corruption and less outsourced contractors to caravans and gun dealers mean their supply line is also highly efficient. Legion does not require a civil government to extract resources from "independent" settlements under their control. They will ask the settlements to provide food and water only once. If the settlement does not comply, well I think you know what will happen. They also do not control large population centers, so all settlements are basically factories of food and water. Legion is known for asking entire settlements to relocate. Therefore, they can literally take means of production with them and minimize the length of their supply chain. They also launch raids into NCR territory, and it won't surprise me that apart from as fear tactics, these raids also "generate" a portion of Legion's supply. Nevertheless, Legion will have supply problems if they take control of large population centers such as Vegas. You can convince the Legate not to take Vegas by convincing him that Legion supply chain cannot maintain a large population center.
@Altom9417 ай бұрын
@@justanotheraccounthere2014 yes, fallout has a lot of magic tech. But we have no reasons to believe Legion uses most of them. Medical tech in particular is highly indicative because the Legion has no means of fixing the only autodoc they are shown to have, nor ideed are they capable of bringing a working one. Given that the autodoc is needed to save Caesar himself, it seems like a fair indication that legion doesn't have working autodocs. Similarily, when you enter the Fort, legion guard will take away your prohibited items. That includes your stimpacks. That means that stimpacks are forbidden. We don't have direct evidence for other examples of tech, but overall there is no reason to believe the Legion is using any of that tech on any significant scale. Considering that most legionaries come from tribals conquered by the Legion it makes sense for them to not use such tech. They have no knowledge of it. Caesar himself does, but he does not share it much. For a faction that claims to prefer melee weapons their assassins are sure as shit packing some serious heat. I joke, but the point is still relevant. Most of Legionaries do not use only machetes, they use guns including high end guns or technilogically sophisticated melee weapons, like thermal lances or rippers or chainsaws. Those also require maintenance and fuel and spare parts etc. Furthermore, legion is using at least somewhat standartized armor, precious metal coinage and we do see a field smithy (or at least a blacksmith) in the camp. All of those would require logistcal support. Fuel for cooking and for the smithy is actually another bulk consumable that the legion would catgorically need, because the real life armies with even lower tech still needed it, and they can't just get it locally, not a whole lot of trees in that part of the region. The problem I have is not with the idea of legion's settlements being unwilling to give what they have. It is with the idea that those settlements actually do have enough to give and also with the idea that what they give can actually be efficiently collected and transported to the frontlines without food going bad or being eaten by the guys doing the transporting and their pack animals. Secondly, assuming that under all settlements are basically factories of food and water, you mean they are agricultural communities then that is probably true. The problem is, from what little evidence we have, both populational density and agricultural productivity of Legoin land should be pretty low. Why? Well, from dialog with both Raul and Caesar himself. Raul tells us that Arizona was mostly small towns, tribals and raider gangs with constant small scale fighting going on. Such an environment is rather counter-productive to significant population growth. Rise of the Legion did fix that patricular issue, but the way Caesar did it was to either destroy or integrate into the Legion the tribals and raiders and subjigate or, in some cases, destroy the towns. Considering that legionaries do not meaningfully contribute to the economy, it means that rise of legion had effectively wiped somewhere around 50% of already low population (technically quite a few of those people eneded up in the legion rather then dead, but again,as far as the economy is concerned there is little difference). But there is more to the problem. Modern, in this case meaning post agrarian revolution, agriculture is significantly more productive then it was before said revolution. But in order to achieve that, modern agricuture requires a lot more then just the farmers. It requires machinery, artificial fertilizers and many other things which can be only provided by the rest of the industrialized economy. Well, in Fallout verse that infrastructure got nuked and what survived the nukes is, at least in legion territory, very likely to have degraded even further due to lack of maintenance, collateral damage from constant fighting and locals cannibalizing what they can to keep their communities intact. And considering that Legion has little to none technical experitize or desire to rebuild the lands of their subjects, we can fairly safely assume, that majority, if not entirety, of agriculture in Legion territory is done in pre agricultural revolution way. And what little benefits they may have from things that did survive despite everything, is very lIkely to be countered by the residual effects of the Great war. Now that is a problem. A big one. Traditional agriculture is inefficient and has relatively low yealds, meaning that the farmers do not have much food to give in the first place and even less they would be willing to give away. Legion can force the issue, of course, but the thing is, even if they take everything, it may not be enoguh, and if they only take what the farmers can give away safely it would definitely be not enough. There is a reason why before agrarian revolution peasants made up around 90% of the population: that was how many people were needed just to feed the population. Firstly, I have not heard anything about Legion straight up relocating settlements. Secondly, even if they do, the efficiency is still a problem. There is only so much food that can be produced in the area in close viscinity to the frontline even under the best circumstances and having farmers just moved from the land they know well and have pre-established infrastructure, however meager it is, to the land they know little about and have to strart cultivating from scratch is pretty far from the best circumstances. As for the raid in the NCR, well, firstly, NCR in the region has serious supply issues as well, so they don't exactly have that much to give. But bigger problem is that raids by their very nature require troops to move fast and relatively stealthily. Which is not something that can be do if they are loaded with looted supplies. But even they do load themselves up, between their other gear, like armor and weapons and food they will consume just to feed themselves would mean that such raids would be a deop in the bucket even under the best possible condtions.

I just realized Chief Hanlon is naive and I had misjudged General Oliver. Hanlon complains that his plan was to station the Rangers on the ridge above the dam so their sharpshooters could take out the Legion as they attack, which was the same place they were stationed in the First Battle of Hoover Dam. He said Oliver overrode his decision and ordered they be placed on the dam itself, which Hanlon claimed was because Oliver was jealous the Rangers got the credit for the victory at the First Battle. BUT, @1:21:09 it's noted that the Legion will lay down constant artillery fire on that ridge, presumably expecting the Rangers to be there again. If Hanlon had had his way, his Rangers would have been slaughtered before they could have fired a single shot. So, it could very well be that Oliver's decision was based on experience, and he knew you should never place your troops in the same spot twice, whereas Hanlon naively thought if it worked once it will work again. Hanlon, being a Ranger, has little experience in full scale warfare and is thinking like someone fighting raider gangs rather than a professional army. It didn't occur to him that his opponent will analyze the First Battle and be ready to counter any tactics the NCR used in it. Like so many inexperienced soldiers, he failed to recognize his commanding officer's decisions weren't about arrogance or pettiness, but about decades of training and experience. Hanlon knows how to win a battle, Oliver knows how to win a war.
@Alex-yf4zi7 ай бұрын
But Oliver still does Things that hinder the war efford, like massing troops at the Dam leading to the NCR being understaffed all over the mojave making it eazyer for the legion to take out Nipton, Searchlight and making Camp in Cottonwood Cove, while i agree about hanlon, i wouldnt say Oliver knows how to win a war as he is moastly out to win glory same as Moore (kinda) she is more tactical but also Just as warhawkish like if she gets her way Both the Khans and BOS are whiped out and unable to help the NCR if i recall correctly if you talk to the NCR Ambasetor in vegas about her plan for the BOS she gets him fired

Now.... how canonically accurate is the Old World Blues HOIV map
@Pantsinabucket7 ай бұрын
Basically 90% of HOIIV OWB that isn’t NCR/legion is purely made up or taken from cut content/design docs for cancelled games like Van Buren, making it very canonically inaccurate.
@mappingshaman52807 ай бұрын
Mexico and canada are basically non canon, colorado has questionable canon status as aside from the hangdogs we have no confirmation of where the tribes lived before the legion conquered them, new reno, vault city, arroyo, klamath, san francisco and the den technically dont have a confirmed status though its likely after fallout 2 most became part of the ncr but this can be done through their focus trees. The mojave doesn't have a lot of the new vegas factions but most of them have cores. Utah is mostly canon due to honest hearts,but the extremist Christians north of new canaan probably aren't. In new vegas the montana bos chapter is mentioned but thats the only canon in the new areas. Oregon and texas are mostly based off the cancelled fallout games fallout extreme and fallout brotherhood of steel 2.
@KingOfLesbia7 ай бұрын
@mappingshaman5280 here in Utah those Christians are known as Mormons ( Which is The predominant religion in Utah) I'm sure if any of them did survive a nuclear war they might reinvent their religion a little bit I forget all the in game Lore But essentially the new caneittes are just A post apocalyptic version of the Mormon church

@someguy92937 ай бұрын
The problem is we only get Fallout through a fine lenes that the games give us. Until Bethesda or Microsoft, create more games and expand that lore, Old World Blues is as accurate canonically as it can be.

If/When you cover Fallout 76 Cartography, I'd recommend collaborating with or watching the KZbinr Irresolute Cartographer who has thoroughly gone through 74 locations Pre-Wastelanders Update in his "Fallout 76 Surveyal" series. It would be a huge mistake in my opinion to ignore the Pre-Wastelanders factions, territories, and locations. To see the change from 2102 and 2103 would be fantastic. Great videos as always, RadKing.

I'd love for a version of the Cartography that covers the Mojave if the Courier goes independent-My personal idea is that the Mojave itself would become a loosely associated federation of the various communities, with New Vegas as the "capital". But that's Best Case, Courier Helped Everyone And Upgraded The Securitrons type stuff. A fun video could be "What if the Courier did the MOST for the Mojave" and then "What if they did the most TO the mojave", aka... a. courier helps everyone, makes everything better, kicks out the NCR and legion vs b. the courier ruins everything, slaughters communities, nukes the long 15 and dry wells, destroys hoover dam, etc etc

I’ve always seen convincing the Great Kahns to just leave to be the best choice. It’s cool to see them at the battle, but their slide at the end says they’re completely wiped out after. If they leave the faction goes on to regroup and live on.

The reason that the Legion was able to resist the NCR for so long despite their old tactics, was because they also had guns and had the same problems when it came to Logistics along with the NCR; they're on equal terms when it comes to low amount of bullets.
@domskillet57447 ай бұрын
When people ask why NV is the best 3d fallout game, this is one of the biggest reasons. You can't do a geopolitical breakdown of 3 or 4 because those worlds are just full of random things placed in random locations, they have no cohesion and don't feel like believable worlds as a result.
@ryanrusch39767 ай бұрын
Now the thing about the NCR is that without player intervention it goes really fucking bad for them. McCaran gets destroyed, Forlorn Hope gets destroyed, Camp Golf gets destroyed, the Strip Embassy gets bombed and mass casualties, and the Dam probably falls

Can attest to this ☝️

I mean, yeah, that’s literally what rpg games do lol, without the player, Caesar literally dies, house never gets to upgrade his chip, etc etc, means nothing, canonically the ncr is the strongest in the region at this time, closely followed by the legion
