Thanks for the good review. I was considering the elk hunter but not so much now. As for the spike, I already have a buck 119 and a harbor freight clone of the 119 that I gave 25 bucks for and I'm very impressed with the clone. looks like the golden spike has the same geometry and hollow grind as my 119 so I don't need the spike. Enjoyed your video

Thanks for watching Michael. The 119 is a great choice!

You lost the brass guard at 14:52 in the video. You should change your name to the Knife Abusive Outdoors man.

Thanks for the video. The pricing on the Chinese versions of these knives makes them very tempting. I've always liked Uncle Henry knives and a 127UH was the second knife I ever bought with my own money back in 1978. Still have the sheath... had to replace the knife on ebay... Do you know if the tang construction of the 153 Golden Spike is the same on the USA made versions?

Thanks for watching! I'm not sure on the build of the US version but if I had to guess... the same. These seem to be great knives when used properly. I did epoxy the guard and so far so good.

Never understood why people baton a knife. These knives aren't intended for baton, obviously. Did you use them as pry bars too? You used it for chopping too?...

This is just testing. If I cut sandwiches only not such a tuff test. I would not normally get so ruff with these type knives if I needed to depend on them. Thanks for the great comment and the prying idea!

None of the guys who survived in the frontier days batoned wood. Batoning wood is for mall ninjas and pointless. Never understood why they don't just throw the wood on the fire. It's a knife . Use it like one and not an axe.

@@Broddi169 You may want a less smokey fire or sometimes a good cooking fire with dry split wood and no bark comes in handy. An emergency survival fire or signal fire you are right... throw anything on there.

I got the golden spike for Christmas a year ago and put it to the spiderco sharpmaker and I'll tell you what, that Uncle Henry knife took such a sharp edge that if you even look at it wrong it will cut you nasty!!!!!

A Chinese knife failing, imagine that! I have a US made upswept Schrade and Case. Once an American made knife goes to China, I stop buying them. This does not apply to good knives that were first made in Asia by American companies like Spyderco Seki or Rat 1s in Taiwan. It does apply to Cold Steel SRKs and the like as they were American made first.

I don't buy any knives of this brand, especially when they are made in Chinese. I saw many videos on using/testing their knives and learn there is at least one issue on their combination with whole knife. Except steel materials, their quality is not good, as toys level. Their price is tempting but you have to consider your safety when using them.

Most all of them are well made. But there are a few models you have to be careful with yes.

I've got a 171uh USA model. It's a true US knife. I'd like to know when they stopped making the US models and how old mine is.

I know Schrade usa ended business about 2004. It is a bit tricky to figure out dates of usa Schrades. May take a bit of research good luck.
