Thank you! Fingering gets forgotten a lot here... & for better and sometimes worse... i was guilty of “creative” fingering as a kid in my lessons! 😝😂 it was actually kind of impressive how I could do all the wrong fingering but still keep the rhythm ... i used to just laugh when he would try to correct me lol 😝😂😕

Great channel and tutorial, thank you so much.😊 When working out fingering, do you think it is a good idea to try and use consistent fingers for particular note transitions in different passages of a piece (to help train muscle memory)? Even if slightly easier fingering will work in some passages? Thank you!
@BitesizePiano Жыл бұрын
Always stick to using the same fingers when learning a piece of music. The fingers used depend on what comes before and after, and should be mainly dictated by how the music is articulated (smooth or detached). ‘Easier’ fingering may not enable you to play as legato as possible, for example.
@ska6811 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your reply, Francesca. I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear with my question. I'm trying to work out what fingering to use on a score that doesn't have any fingering marked. At one point the R hand drops down from D (as high as the passage goes) to A, and it seems most logical (and works well for what comes next) to use Fingers 5 (D) and 2 (A). But a few bars later, I need to drop down again from D to A, and then to F sharp. So now I'm going Fingers 5 (D), 3 (A) (which is a slight stretch) and then 2 (F sharp). I'm wondering whether I should use Finger 3 (rather than 2) for the A the first time as well, so my hand gets used to that transition within this piece? To be clear, once I work out what fingering to use in the different passages, I will definitely stick to that when learning/playing the piece. Thanks so much again.😊

they aren't always though, and there are often a few different ways to finger a particular passage. This lesson is also for the many people learning who don't use sheet music.

When it comes to sight-reading, does it become more natural to instinctively know what fingers to use without planning them out beforehand?
@BitesizePiano2 жыл бұрын
Yes generally! You’ll learn to notice patterns within music such as Scalic and arpeggiated, so if you practise scales and arpeggios then the fingering will be more instinctive!

I mean you go way too fast and we cannot see what you do. It's not made for beginners. Otherwise it has no purpose if it's made for people who know how to play.@@BitesizePiano
@BitesizePiano8 ай бұрын
Ah so your first comment was sarcasm. Cool👍🏻 Where do I go ‘way too fast’? I explain everything and talk through what I’m doing clearly. It’s not made for *complete* beginners. Many people who are self taught and ‘know how to play’ have many bad habits with regards to finger choice.
