We were pretty poor when I was a kid so my dad would buy big bags of cereal like puffed wheat or those shredded wheat things that looked like mini hay bales. This was back in the 80s. The only time we ever got sugary cereal was camping when mom would buy the Kelloggs variety pack. It's still one of my favorite memories as a kid, eating frosted flakes (or whatever) at the picnic table while mom was cooking sausages on the Coleman camp stove. Awesome.

My mom would also buy those bags of puffed rice and shredded wheat in the 80's. She would sometimes make us use powdered instant milk. Yuck. Me and my siblings would just put a ton of sugar on it to make it edible.😂

I'm from Australia.. shoutout to those Kellogg's variety packs when camping 😂.. Haha the only time we got the nice ones was the variety pack when camping too! I wouldn't say we were poor but extreme frugality was the thing. Maybe we were just poor.

Using American mayonnaise instead of ketchup to appear classier is probably the trashiest thing you can possibly do. Americans don't realise their mayonnaise is literally a completely different sauce to Euro mayo and tastes completely different. American mayonnaise is absolutely disgusting on fries, and only resembles pommes frites mit mayo visually. It's actually a great metric for measuring how 'American' someone is if they don't realise they are completely different.

I think it came from my parents buying cheap cuts of steak when they went on sale, & then cooking the living hell out of them. 🤢 It's also amazing, on burgers. I now save it for when we grill steaks @ home, though- I don't ask for it @ nice steakhouses.
