I recently got a sample of Oud Satin Mood. Smelling it gave me an out of body experience. I was transported into heaven. If Portrait Of A Lady is even better, then I am afraid to try it. What if I travel to heaven and don't come back? My family needs me here on earth.

I absolutely love Portrait of a Lady, but I found, for me, Oud Satin Mood more comforting and usable in more situations, so Oud Satin Mood would be my choice. Performance or smell? Smell, It's why I like perfumery, you can always respray or use a molecule to make it perform better. Thanks for the video Sebastian!!!

Because I already own POAL (which is my nr 1 at the moment), I would go for black phantom. The two are very different and this is the reason. I love all of them! Thank you for the great review! 👍🏼

I have full-sized bottles Portrait of a Lady and Oud Satin Mood and a travel-sized Black Phantom. Portrait of a Lady is my favorite of all three with Oud Satin Mood coming in second. The Black Phantom is a bit too masculine for me (I’m a woman), but it smells heavenly.

Buy four sample decants of each and wear them on skin and see how they preform with your p.h. And go from there. Then buy the one you like the best and keep adding as your finances get stronger for your next purchase as you will find it’s hard to stop when you start purchasing all these wonderful cents. 🙂

Layton is more of an everyday scent. Then Black Phantom imo. Then POAL and Oud Satin Mood. All in that order according to me. But it's hard to tell which one of like the most. I have Layton. I don't put it in the same category as the other 3. Black Phantom is in its own league from the others. POAL and Oud Satin Mood smell the most high end imo. Real exquisite

I've tried all of them, except Layton Exclusif and in the end, I bought Oud satin mood extrait. I am not a fan of rose fragrances, but this one was like enveloping my skin, indeed like satin on my skin. It also lasts long and to answer your other question, I usually buy a fragrance for its smell, but if I pay it 200-300 Euro I am watching the performance too ( don't expect beast mode, but not 2 hours or so either ). Portrait hands down! I own a bottle but it’s not an everyday fragrance for me because I like to rotate my fragrances. I can definitely see it being a year around, everyday scent. PDM a close 2nd. My collection is mostly montale and mancera for longevity purposes and price point.

I’d buy Oud Satin mood only because I’d love it in my collection. I agree with Sebastian POAL is a very strong perfume, so is PDM Layton Exclusif. Black phantom is a nice fragrance but like Sebastian said it’s not as loud as the other three fragrances.

Black Phantom is the only one I own out of the four. It smells so delicious, yet the booziness and creamy blend keeps it from being a sugar bomb. I like all of those, with a slight exception for Portrait of a Lady. It’s too strong for me! I never thought I’d say that, but I can’t hang. I love smelling it on other people though. Especially men. So it’s Black Phantom for me and I just through the whole bottle in my purse and spay throughout the day. 😍 Yes, I want my fragrances to last, but I also enjoy reapplying.

I desire a fragrance that smells wonderful, but also projects and performs at least moderately. An example of a great one that falls short imo is Reflection Man by Amouage - smells wonderful, but projection and performance are sub par. I only wished it projected and performed as good as it smells. Now, Laytan has all 3 qualities very much so.

So. I have smelled all. The only one I dislike is Oud Satin Mood. I would choose Potrait of a Lady. I think the most unique and pleasant of these. I would also do the regular Layton if their choice is Layton Exclusif. My actual advice is to do 5 ml samples of each. Get a better idea. Then buy

I mostly buy for the scent itself, but performance is important too. Maybe 70:30. For example I really love and adore Afternoon Swim, so I can accept the kind of weak performance (often around 1hour strong, and then 2-4 hours moderate weak )

Layton Exclusif to me... I love Oud Satin Mood but on a woman. It's not unisex imo. Portrait of a Lady is fem too, not for me either and I like Black Phantom but not as much as Layton Exclusif (which is way better than the original Layton imo) and it's a winter scent only. Layton Exclusif is fall/winter and beginning of spring. It got reformulated with the 4.2oz bottle tho (black Phantom too btw). It's smell the same but lasting power is not. Early 75ml is the one to get.

Portrait of a Lady hands down. It is a masterpiece. But beware, it is loud and you will be noticed. My least favorite one here is Layton Exclusif, I think it is overrated, kind of generic , loud and a bit harsh. But that's just my opinion . The other two I don't own or have tested but I don't care much about Oud or boozy fragrances in general. Boozy tend to smell alcoholic, which for me, defeats the purpose of a fragrance.

I wouldn't buy it if I didn't like the smell but I wouldn't buy it again if it didn't last long if that help's with your question at all. I'm also I guy that place fragrances in seasons just for the presentation. I wouldn't tell you lets go to the beach but if its the summer and I smell like the sea and you ask about going to the beach I wouldn't say "no". So I would have to know when he plan on using these 4 fragrances.

I'd buy Portrait also! I think it smells so good on a man too. It's usually for the scent of the fragrance that I would make a purchase, but if the performance just isn't there I hunt around for something similar but stronger. Still searching for a Beast mode Tom Fords Lost Cherry, I've fallen for it hard but I'm afraid of using up my whole bottle. I've blind bought a few cherry scents recently that have just been awful, really artificial and juvenile (we've been in lockdown for months, but I managed to get them for cheap.) If POAL and Lost Cherry had a baby, I think I'd be very happy!

I have PDM Layton Ex and Kilian Black Phantom and find it strange that anyone would pit these enormously different fragrances against each other. Obviously your response to community questions, so no criticism of you. Perhaps there is a place for all of these great fragrances in one's collection? BTW: I do not find Kilian fragrances light wrt PDM. Kilian last just as long on my skin and have greater precision. There is a cloudy warmth to PDM in general, like a California Cabernet, while Kilian has the precision of a Burgundy - but both are strong! As an example, I have Gold Knight and Carlisle and find them similar in performance and also in taking a sweet warm core (honey vs tonka) and stretching it with a bright top (anise vs apple) and grounding it in pachouli - but both are monstrous.

I've got Black Phantom and i'd stick with that but the only other one of those i've tried is Oud Satin Mood and i'm glad I only sprayed it on paper because it wasn't for me at all. The other 2 don't appeal to me because Layton Exclusif has a Civet note, which probably isn't real but its enough to put me off and Portrait of a Lady has rose which is very hit and miss on my skin.

I don't like beastly loud fragrances, I prefer them subtle but I like them to last. So many lovely fragrances just don't last, even so I decided to splash out on Straight to Heaven as I love the smell so much. Its pretty much gone in 3 hrs but I had to make an exception with that one. If I really love something I'll buy it if I can, but I like a minimum 3 hrs or I'm out.

I love Rance 1795 Laetitia and it has rose and patchouli --it also features nutmeg and tolu balsam. It's a bit more femme if I recall... Check it out, if you haven't! It's on Fragrancenet right now.

I like loud, but not too loud (nearing cloying) fragrances. And if I fall head over heels for a perfume, I would buy it regardless of longevity or projection. I never smelled any of the reviewed fragrances so 🤷
