The best DB game has to be disputed between UT, BT3 or RB2. By best I mean closest to the source material, manga or anime. All the other series aren't even close to the anime. The Budokai series and the like (BoZ, XV, Burst limit, etc) are all very enjoyable games that I love. They have awesome battles and B3 in particular is really good. But the thing is, they are awesome as fighting games. They are not DB games, they are fighting games, with the moniker of DB. Just change the obvious giveaways like the names and appearances and you have a series that has absolutely nothing to do with DB. Heck you could even play the game as is and still not be able to recognise moves from the anime. The BT series on the other hand, particularly BT3 mimic the fighting style of DB to near perfection. Those are DB games. Sure you can try and battle through button mashing, but in the end you are a Chaozu in a world of Gokus and Vegetas. Increase your skill, and learn the intricate mechanics of the game and you start improving. It reflects the growth and power difference found in the manga. At the same time, each character is unique and the game is more or less balanced. It is near impossible to do something like this, but BT3 managed to. And on top of that the roster is so great; I think it is the fighting game with the most characters or something However, while the combat mechanics are great, the energy attacks take a hit somewhat. The energy attacks are close to the anime for some part, but some attacks that are really obvious are missing or just aren't like the original. I'm looking at Vegeta's final burst cannon, Future Trunks attacks vs the androids and Goku's kaioken finish. Also Piccolo's Light Grenade being blast 2 instead of U blast. that is just weird. I think that the only reason this stuff is missing is because of the 3-move restriction. Also, it is way too easy to spam energy attacks, something which is not really DB. The RB series are an extension of BT3. In the RB the energy attack thing is nearly completely addressed by adding a whole host of new attacks but the roster takes a hit somewhat. Also the spam attack thing is still there. Sure, so many attacks from the anime are super attacks that in the end, super attacks are more or less spammed in the anime according to RB too, but at the same time, you could use something much more powerful for a slightly bigger cost so why bother? On the other hand, combat mechanics have been imported from BT3 and improved, with stuff like team attacks, rubble trapping and blast deflect. Sure they are even more complicated but that is part of the fun. UT's attacks look simply amazing. I mean they look like they come straight out of the anime (if the anime was rendered in the same animation style as UT). However, almost everything else about the game is meh. The combat system is absolute rubbish. And while super attacks are imported from RB and even improved upon in terms of those available and visuals, the super attack mechanics are the worst thing I've ever seen. The cutscene that happens for each attack is the stupidest thing ever put in DB games. They just take away all the intensity from battle and make you like an idiot for just standing there doing nothing. The spirit meter for super attacks is not a bad idea because it stops spamming, and is separate from ki which makes the game more DB like, but at the same time it feels badly implemented because of how you have to charge it, making battle repetitive. The spirit mode where your health goes red also feels like something with potential but that suffers from bad implementation. The roster is impressive, but it is a negative impression. And the combat system just looks like the creators gave in to the complaint that RB was too complicated and went to the other extreme. While in RB you needed skill to carry out advanced tactics, in UT you just need good button mashing and some small sense of timing. Team attacks were removed which is not good, and super attacks were limited to 3 again, although you get to choose your set. But goddammit the visuals are so close to that of the anime that this game is one of the best. I think that if one was to combine BT3, RB2 and UT together, a very strong base for the ultimate DB game would be formed

Danshyl Boodhoo Since BoZ they've deviated away from the original story, which I find good and bad at the same time. Good, because we're not playing the same story all over again. Bad, because we probably won't see the impressive cutscenes, attacks, and moments we got in UT, RB2, and BT3. Don't get me wrong, while fusions is a great concept and I play the shit out of the Xenoverse series, I would like to see a game with the full story, new material, better character creation, the graphics of UT, and an expanded roster, I don't think we'll be seeing a game with all those elements.

Danshyl Boodhoo bt3 characters were copy and paste....most ultimate were od used on characters that shouldn't even have had them like the super explosive wave and energy volley that game was hella copy and paste and it required no skill every character had a meteor mash combo same 4 tap square to heavy I think your gassing the gameplay due to nostalgia or something within those lines ik it's your opinion

This why I love Ultimate Tenkaichi and Tenkaichi 3 so much!! The supers/ultimate moves are so similar to the show :))) raging blast 2, budokai 3 , and legends also have a lot of solid ones out there as well

Budokai 3 may not be the best dbz game out there but it sure nailed the ultimate attacks with proper timing, voice lines, animation, sound effects. They're a bit long and that affects gameplay in a negative manner, but they're a joy to watch, thanks also to the gorgeous (imho unmatched) artstyle. The psx legends version of true Kamehameha is amazing, I like the camera work and the powerful looking aura surrounding Goku.

Not really. UT was completely different in terms of gameplay, graphics, character selection and story. UT primarily focused on their giant battles which the RB Series didn't have. As for the story, it's just the story of dragon ball, you can't really change that. UT actually skipped many parts due to their limited characters but they did have some GT characters which neither RB Game had. Overall tho, UT is very different from the RB series but still sucked
