Title is a bit misleading. I was hoping you were going to showcase a piece of software that Knows what game settings to use to give you the best game performance... I just want games to have a thing where you tell it what resolution you want it to run at, and what frame rate, and it will dynamically Adjust the Texture quality, Anti Aliasing, ETC to keep you at that resolution or frame rate. Or have it work backwards. Say I always want MAX settings 60FPS and instead it will adjust Resolution to keep me at the MAX visual settings while hitting 60fps. Like a more customizable dynamic resolution

Not just our eyes, our brain and our entire perception of existence lives in the past. We can never truly see the "present" due to speed of light and time it takes to process information in the brain. Even when you're listening and talking it's all just the past due to speed of sound and again, brain/ear processing time. Imagine going to click an icon on your desktop and the mouse being half a second behind. It hurts me. I might send this video over so the understand my frustration with the delay!

Can you revert the windows update? Maybe mess with priority settings in Task Manager too, make sure your program has high priority.
@storm370004 жыл бұрын
Low/No risk option: Make sure all your drivers are up to date and enable high performance power plan (and/or lookup how to enable the ultimate performance power plan, It is real and comes with windows but it is hidden by default). Also try disabling devices you dont use in device manager, things like realtek drivers can be horrible, especially when outdated, causing high DPC/system latency and often BSODs. More risky option: Use Msi Util from guru3d (the link will be on a big forum post named "Windows: Line-Based vs. Message Signaled-Based Interrupts.") Change your GPU driver mode to msi if it supports it, this has a very unlikely chance to temporarily make the driver stop working if it somehow falsely reports that it supports it, a reinstallation of the driver or turning off msi mode in safe mode will fix it if this happens. You can also try enabling msi for your others drivers that support it, especailly your USB driver if your tracking system uses USB(which it likely does). If you have the option of using the old PS/2 port, then use it, it has a much more direct link to the CPU and has much lower latency then USB. Higher risk option: Overclock CPU to get your DPC/system latency down as I strongly notice the increase in latency if i let the cpu clock down much below base clock on my ryzen 1800x.
@storm370004 жыл бұрын
I remember early windows 10 feeling like trying to run underwater with how bad the system latency felt just in the desktop with the 2d effects, it has improved over the 3 years after i built this PC, it seems to improve with each update, this could just be nvidia drivers to blame or windows, or even the AMD ryzen chipset drivers being buggy in first gen ryzen but improving.

For many of the firearms represented (simulated) in games the lock-time, ignition time and the time it takes for a round to travel down a barrel is often greater than the "system" delays you measured. The lock time is the time from when the trigger is pulled and the sear releases (breaks) to the time the firing pin hits the primer. Very good competition triggers, firing pins, etc. can reduce the lock time to less than 10 milliseconds (some expensive ones in the 5 mSec range), but some typical AR-15 (cheep or military Issue) triggers have lock times of 15 millisecond or more. Some AKs and other weapons are much much worse. For muzzle loaders (and large weapons) the time from release of the sear to the round leaving the barrel is often measured in 100s of milliseconds. some target shooters (and snipers) actually learn to file between heartbeats which can disturb the the trajectory of a round even after the release of the sear but before the round exits the muzzle. So if games are to be "realistic", they should simulate the real delays which makes all of this emphasis on reducing delays unrealistic and in the real world mostly "Hog Wash"!!!!!

per NVIDIA "Additionally, the SDK also offers a feature called Low Latency Boost. This feature overrides the power saving features in the GPU to allow the GPU clocks to stay high when heavily CPU-bound. Even when the game is CPU-bound, longer rendering times add latency. Keeping the clocks higher can consume significantly more power, but can reduce latency slightly when the GPU is significantly underutilized and the CPU submits the final rendering work in a large batch. Note that if you do not want the power tradeoff, you can use Reflex Low Latency mode without the Boost enabled." Going into control panel and using prefer maximum performance does the same thing.

So interesting detail. I was given the honour of being allowed to teach tradtional Japanese Swordsmanship. One of the things my sensei taught me, and I teach my students is you never look at the sword. If you you "see" the sword by the time you register seeing it, it has already hit you. This is why many martial arts teach their students to watch the body, because if say... a shoulder is moving at a certain speed, you can react to it... but if you are reacting to the arm that is attached to the shoulder you are already late. So... Anthony's comment about "Your eyes are living in the past" is spot on... and... makes me think he would make an excellent martial artist. :P

I've got two old emulators in PCem - a DOS/Win3.11 486 and a Win98 Pentium 1. Both run great and satisfy a TON of nostalgia. Not to mention some of those older titles just will not run on a modern PC even with DOSBox or compatibility settings. Content is king and some of those old games are still fun as heck.

6:40 There is something to be said about how the game is processed, and by having so many features (such as AA) completely off, iirc more of the workload is being accomplished by the less than stellar CPU, where adding features like very high AA would force more of the processing to the graphics card. I'm no reviewer, this is something I heard from one of these guys somewhere, on LTT, Gamers Nexus or maybe even JayzTwoCents. Would love if someone who knows better could confirm or explain this, whether it is a thing, or if it is not.
@storm370004 жыл бұрын
that is true mostly, the fps will max out at either the cpu's or gpu's limit. It all depends on which hardware is the slowest, you will get the best latency if you dont overload the cpu or the gpu to the point where the other componant is waiting around too much. a vast majority of the latency comes from the monitor itself and the system, so keeping load off the cpu so the DPC/system latency is low helps, also having higer cpu frequency helps(i strongly notice the major desktop latency change with the balanced vs high performance power plans when the cpu is idle, just moving the mouse feels like there is some sort of drag or resistance.)

I use windows search to look for so much stuff
@itsmekermit41364 жыл бұрын
I think that the game might be on his external drive which isn't indexed by the windows search, by default windows only searches the files in C drive, you need to manually add other files/folders/drive in the indexing list.
@Jsfun4 жыл бұрын
@@itsmekermit4136 There was a shortcut on his desktop. If you'd like a proper demonstration of why Windows 10's search is awful, open Explorer and search ".dll". Then, while it begins to list them all, install Everything and search ".dll". Windows will still not be finished, but Everything will provide a complete set of results as you type.
@itsmekermit41364 жыл бұрын
@@Jsfun whole windows is filled with .dll files so that would take time and I don't think anyone would search for them either. Windows search and search from explorer is different, windows search searches folders that are set to be indexed and the explorer searches the files from current directory that you are in.
@Jsfun4 жыл бұрын
@@itsmekermit4136 It does, though. Results for any search term are literally instant and draw like Google search suggestions - I encourage you to try it out. Windows Explorer takes hours, Everything fills the results page as you type. I've done the same demonstration with several colleagues (I work in IT) - for reference my PC has 144,351 results for ".dll", found instantly. Searching shouldn't be slow, we're just used to it because Microsoft built an awful search tool. Windows Explorer uses the same indexing system, it just doesn't involve Cortana. You can filter by location, but you can also search the whole system. It's just as slow whatever the task, but only Cortana has issues with putting items in a silly order or missing things.

Boost increases the GPU clock during CPU bound tasks, allowing the GPU to submit frames to the GPU faster, improving the effectiveness of Reflex. So in order to feel the + boost you need to be playing a CPU bound game
@Dubfire694 жыл бұрын
Great video! However, the measurement is not valid. Let me explain why: Validity, in academic terms, means that you are not entirely measuring what you want to measure. In this expiriment, this invalidity lies in the fact that you are measuring the time from the mouseclick till the time that CS GO shows the muzzle flash. However, CS GO could have baked in a delay for muzzle fash to show only after, say, 10 ms after the game has received the signal to fire the gun (this would actually be realistic since the bullet has to leave the gun first). Furthermore, you are comparing Fortnite to CS GO, stating that fortnite has a faster response time. Because of the previous stated invalid measurement, this is a false comparison.
@CottidaeSEA4 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. The issue with the comparison is that they don't know what the reason behind it is. However, it is true that the delay from click to response is lower in Fortnite, regardless of reason. While the information can't be used in any meaningful way, the statement is correct. Oh, but you're correct that it's false comparison.
@zayd11114 жыл бұрын
I don't think cs has like 5 ms response time
@CottidaeSEA4 жыл бұрын
@@zayd1111 Considering the game can run at 300+ fps, most of the delay should be in the hardware, not software. However, if a game running at lower fps can get a lower response time, then evidence points toward a delay in the software.

The reflex on + boost description in Modern Warfare tells something along the lines of helping the CPU bound case by keeping the GPU on a high clock or something.
