what i've learned about the karats is the following: 10k is the touted as the strongest but it's primarily the hardest. it's the most scratch resistant but 10k can be prone to outright shearing 14k is the most popular and is the best balance of overall durability and price for gold content, it's hard but more malleable than 10k and is about as scratch resistant. 18k has the best ratio of color and purity to strength, it'll scratch easier than 10 or 14 but it's hard enough to still resist scratching well and won't deform. best compromise of purity to overall resistance to scratching and cracking or shearing because the higher gold content makes it more malleable, so it won't shatter like 10k can. you can sleep in it without it deforming just like you can with 10k and 14k. 21(?)/22/23/24 have the best look and purities but even 8+mm thick cubans in 22-24 tend to deform if you sleep in them, which is expected. they won't ever break if they're substantial enough but they'll lose polish and scratch and dig faster, leading to look like it has a patina. or that it's very dirty even if it's completely clean, because the mirror polish won't last and it'll marr up. for people who love 21k+ they don't mind the dings or slight warping at all and will wear them 24/7 like in thailand, but some people might not like it because they've only had exposure to 10-18k. if you've ever worn and slept in a silver chain like a heavy link a lot you'll notice it gets beat up and scuffed pretty quickly and looks like it's dirty even if you just put it in a supersonic, that's kind of what you should expect with the higher karats. i don't mind it at all some people might, especially if they don't know that ALL chains in this karat range lose their polish very very quickly because of the nature of pure gold. conclusion: 18k is probably the best for the western consumer because it looks the best and doesn't have a risk of warping (generally speaking) if you sleep in it

14k works perfectly for my every day needs. Still looks good, holds up very well over time with an active lifestyle. Hoping a Solid 5mm 14k heavy link will do the same😍

22k just hits different. The color and the purity is what’s sets it apart. Btw. Very durable! I own -22K 5.5 MM Diamond Cut Rope Chain -22K 1.2 MM Franco Chain -22K Angel Pendant These are my everyday wear. I never take them off. Very durable. I shower with them, sleep with them and workout with them. No issues. 22K is very durable and not “soft”.

Obviously they are softer relative to 10, 14, or 18k but I agree that if you are just doing normal every day shit with them, 22k chains hold up great. I don’t wear mine to work, where there’s a much higher chance of it getting messed up at least once with what I do every day, (wear my 18ks at work) but I wear them all day every day outside of work. So I think people worry a bit too much when they hear it’s softer, but I get why people might be nervous about spending so much extra on a “more fragile” piece

Nice video. My favorite used to be 14 karat gold for sure. I have always liked 14 karat gold and up and only solid gold chains no semi hollow or no hollow chains. I love gold a whole lot great investment and also very nice too wear around the neck, but over time I have noticed that I like the more natural gold color look and more purity and I also agree with you. I would also go with 18 karat Gold.

Been saving up to get my first solid gold chain I went with a 18k 4mm flat curb from Linx! I just like the color the most and that gold percentage is always nice lol

I work a labor job so for me 14k works great and looks great to be fair. If I didn’t work labor though I would for sure go with the 18k

I agree I have 2 uniquely designed half bangles one with matching 18K ring. And a circle link chain of 18K gold that is thick and has little gold balls linking the circles. A 24K flat chain for a pendant. I love the color of 18K gold. Almost bought a 24K bangle with gemstones but didn't like the color of 24K on me. I plan to get some more pieces.

After wearing 10, 14, 24 & now 18K I think I'm torn between 18 & 24K. I miss the density & color of 24K, but it was so heavy for what it was (24" 4.2mm 100 grams Dragon Scale) it actually stretched in length in less than a year. I never took it off though, so durability was put to the test. The new style 18K 23" 3.2mm Heavy Link paired with an 18K mini Boss Ankh is my favorite setup I've ever had, but really miss that golden hue from the 24K. I don't worry about this 18K Heavy Link failing in any kind of way at all. I think I may have to 2 chain it with a 22K Franco or Miami Cuban some day to get the best of both 18 & 24K.

In Canada, 10K is pretty much all that the jewellers sell..... so it's what everyone here wears. Not me... I like to be different and wear 18K. My friends always ask me if my chains are real. Lol. I own a 24" Jacoje 18K 5mm Diamond Cut Franco and I love it. I also wanted an 8mm Miami Cuban but I waited too long. The cost has gone up to much with the price of gold and I am screwed now. Lol

The Best Karat Gold is what ever is popular in your city or country its never smart buying karat that is not popular in your location talking from experience in my country 10k is most popular if you try to sell 18k you will get less than the value of gold while if you try to sell 10k you get what its worth.. ppl will buy 18k and break it down to 10k just bcz thats what they believe in
