Hey the country bears is a masterpiece of a movie it’s way better than any marvel movie out there today, Christopher walken is the best part of the movie.

I'd say the 1999 The Mummy is a pretty good example of an "original remake" that compliments the 1932 very well. It was, in my opinion, able to carry over a lot of the story beats of the 1932 movie whilst being wholly it's own thing, with a completely different tone and purpose. Ironically the 2017 movie failed utterly at this as an attempted remake of the 1999 remake. The glass/sand face action bit was clearly a hollow reference to the 1999 movie and only made sense as that. In the 1999 movie they were in a desert where a sand storm to bring down a plane makes sense in narrative, and making Imhotep's face appear in it was a cool creative choice added to that. The 2017 version clearly worked backwards from "need to add that iconic moment" when creating this action beat, and it frankly felt like it. Particularly since it followed all the monster easter eggs stuffed into the 2nd act of that movie, it just felt all the more like that set piece existed for the reference rather than for the plot.

Completely agree there. You know certain scenes when you see them if you've seen the 1932 one before, but Mummy '99 definitely stands out on its own!

Excellent call! I love BOTH versions of 'The Mummy' (1932 and 1999) because they're almost entirely different and equally valid approaches to the same basic set-up.

I'd love to see more horror or horror adjacent work with Lakeith Stanfield in it because he's great in the stuff he's been in so far. He was the highlight of both this and the Death Note movie.

I totally agree with all the points here. I was so shocked at how emotionally strong the 23 HM was that I was willing to let the 'CGI-fest' (as they call it) slide. But seeing clips from the 03 HM really reminded me of how much richness and life we lose with sets that are so empty. Yeah, this new one was colorful and dynamic, but it really lacked spatial depth whenever they were in the mansion. I want a movie with Black characters that brings both together

HM 23 is a really good example of the current problem where easter egg type stuff doesn't actually make it a good movie/show. I'm not gonna enjoy seeing things from the California ride i've been on if they're executed so poorly (special shout out to my poor girl constance hatchaway...someone had it out for you). Even more of a shame since as you explain, there are really great performances that deserved a better showcase.

Honestly I like the recent one not just because of recency bias but just because I prefer the character arcs. There is a third type of Disney pass holder that my sister falls into. "The type of Disney person who is trying desperately to create nostalgia of something that doesn't exist for her but believes that was stolen from her childhood and even though she can't afford it will put her annual pass on her credit card" lol

I totally agree that real sets are better than all CGI. Both movies had a combination of the two, but undeniably the newer film has more CGI. Both movies are entertaining in their own way. If I had to pick one, I would choose the 2023 film due to better acting and it honoring the source material in set design, even if a lot of sequences did rely heavily on VFX. As a side note, Hollywood studios need to put aside greed and laziness and make good original content.

I was in 4th grade when the Eddie Murphy Version came out, Disney reached a high peak cinema in 2003 with Curse of The Black Pearl, Brother Bear, Holes, and Finding Nemo. But this film on the otherhand, had a lot of great Marketing Strategies back then, with McDonald's promoting their toys, a Video Game, The Halloween Commercials along with Movie Surfers, and 2 music videos featuring the 2000s cover of "Superstition" performed by Raven Symone' which is also produced by Stevie Wonder and "Izu" performed by Nelly which got played on 106 & Parks BET Channel. That's how much support The Haunted Mansion got. 😅

Really enjoyed it, honestly. Lakeith's always great. I saw that scene with him holding that Jericho Drumm figure for a second and couldn't help but realize he'd be great in that role, too. He's got that 'haunted' look about him.

I was gonna see the haunted mansion... until I saw they'd slipped Jared Leto into the cast. Though I happened to catch a lot of it while my roommate watched it when it hit streaming- and it was. Fine, I guess...? But honestly, both movies are kid popcorn flicks. Which, well, if that's their goal, then they def succeeded.

To me, the old haunted mansion was better to me. The new one just wasn't as entertaining to me or my cousins. I feel like they put too many Easter eggs rather than making sure the storyline was Entertaining.

Evil Dead/ Evil Dead 2/ and Evil Dead (2013) are all very similar but very different and amazing in how they give us the horror story that Sam Raimi wanted. Fright Night (1985) and Fright Night (2011), I like both and they give very different vibes to each other. I've heard people complain about the 2011 version because it was so different, but I enjoyed both for what they were.

Hello Readus, the word gypsy is actually from the word Egyptian who are black free spirited people. It was not Romanian. The reason is associate with Romanian is because is equivalent to the N word and the Romanian doesn't want to be associated with that. What's sad is none of the Romanian people didn't mentioned that word is actually from Egyptian black people. I have to found this out from an old art book that's so badly damaged and it's biography from those who fled from their home during Napoleon rampage. Oh by the way, I actually talked two Romanian people and one was clearly a cringe for me: an old lady was happy to know that I got the information correctly while the younger generation, in such a disappointing way, said to me that she has black people in her family...like every other white person said to me to make to be silent about the true history that's been corrupted or erased. No thank you. Please look this up from old text books.

for me, the 2023 version is the best one, both because of the character arcs, but also because of how sexist the 2003 version felt to me. Like, a, the whole thing with Elizabeth/Sarah was a tired story trope even in 2003, but also just. the way eddie murphey just kept calling her his wife half the time, with a hard emphasis on the possessive, as opposed to being like, hey stop being creepy at her because she is a person who does *not* want what's happening was just very ick. Rosario's character gets sidelined in favour of Ben and Travis, but she still has more agency than Sarah does, and that had always left a sour taste in my mouth for the 2003 version

Moor, is how it’s spelled. It’s a term used to describe Black, usually Muslim, people who came up from West Africa and conquered Portugal/Spain, though it can also mean a lot of other things since Christian people just used it left and right in the middle ages
