Hi bortlethetortle. We often hear about customers painting our aluminium heat shields black. We advice that this will dramatically reduce the effectiveness of the heat shield as the silver aluminium reflects most radiant heat but won't do this with a black surface where it will absorb radiant heat.

👍Is there a reason why you only want to treat externally? Have you watched our Troopy Install? (obviously different model but same strategy) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX3QYmSBi96kbbM You can use a paint to deaden the panel externally however that covers only stage 1 of the treatment (would replace the butyl mats). You then need to try and blanket out the noise, internally we use a foam or a more heavy duty treatment is the mass load vinyl.

Looking to cool down the cockpit in a one off aluminum hot rod. This looks to be about as good as of a product as can be had, unfortunately I am in Southern California. Do you have any availability here, or can you recommend a product that may be available in the United States with similar properties? I love the needle punched feature of your product as so many heat shield products I see on cars are coming apart. I do not care about sound deadening properties, only heat reduction in the cockpit.

However, if you email us at sales@carbuilders.com.au with the product you are after and your shipping details we can organise a quote that includes shipping. Can this be in direct contact with a exhaust manifold? Im trying to sandwich it betweem my intake manifold and exhaust headers on my jeep
@carbuilders1
@carbuilders1 3 жыл бұрын
Hi 33 Sosa. It does need a small gap to be most effective. By directly touching, it will create a thermal bridge. Also, at extreme temperatures it'll damage the product.

Hi CarBuilders, thanks for your great videos, & I hope this isn't a stupid question: for install of heat shield on the engine side of firewall, can you do it with the engine in place or does the engine need to come out first? (Trying to work out if it is achievable for me, I have a Ford Econovan 1995, cab over engine, lots of heat coming into cab). Thanks again.
@carbuilders1
@carbuilders1 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the positive feedback Jive Bellhouse. No, you don't need to remove the engine however accessibility is the issue. The most effective heat shield is the embossed heat shield as it is spaced off the sheet metal and has air flow between it and the panel, demonstrated in this cab over kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIWaqHWEgcRkh9k If you can't fit a spaced off heat shield then you should look at the peel and stick. 😎👍

Wouldn't that be just reflecting heat back in to engine?
@CoroPlanesLLC
@CoroPlanesLLC 4 жыл бұрын
Yes... that is the point. You put it on the firewall and floor to keep heat out of the inside of your car. Also protects the paint on the hood (bonnet) of your car from the extreme heat coming from the engine. Turbo and race engines make a lot of heat...

I have a silly q...suppose you use heat shield and carve it in the form of the car windows...do you think it would be effective at helping keeping a parked car cooler than say those cheapo ones from Kmart? (Ie on the interior of the car)
@carbuilders1
@carbuilders1 4 жыл бұрын
Haha. I think it would act similarly if placed inside the car as both will reflect. For it to work, you would need to have it on the outside (heat facing) with an air gap.. not too practical.

Can I apply it on the roof to resist heat?
@carbuilders1
@carbuilders1 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Saneesh. Yes, you can however it won't be as effective as facing the heat source. Manufactures such as Ford use these shields internally on the floor pan. You also have the chose of Insul Layer or Van Liner (www.carbuilders.com.au/van-liner) which is a thick closed cell foam which will act as a decoupling layer and slow heat transfer 👍

@carbuilders1

Hi Christopher. If you have a worry about trapped water, customers use our aluminium heat tape, silcon or seam sealer etc to seal off the open edges. The heat shields themselves obviously don't rust as they are aluminium 👍

Hi Srikhanth. Yes, this will significantly reduce heat through the boot. You would stick the peel and stick heat shield on the underbody of the car, facing the exhaust.
