I’ve been ordering from Herrschners over 50 years when they had stores. My mother and I would drive 45 minutes to visit one and spend hours browsing and buying. I’ve always purchased their yarns. Thank you for the reviews, it really does help.

Have to share. Years ago I stocked up on the worsted 8 baby. I knit some baby blankets for whoever/whenever. My son’s friend had a baby and he asked if he could have one of the blankets. The new mom loved it and months later sent a picture of her baby girl on the blanket and said it was her favorite. Fast forward baby Olivia is 5 now and it’s still her favorite. This is what gets me through my worsted 8! After a wash, it gets softer and the colors are so pretty. I still have tons of it in my stash. I have much nicer yarns, but it’s not terrible.

Thanks to YOU, I fell in love with the bean stitch and have been making wash cloths for months now. Thought I would give you a heads up...the Premier granite splash and a solid grey or black border of 3 rows makes an amazing cloth. BTW, if you use a hook to find the center pull you get a lot less yarn barf.

Navel vs. Naval 😆. An estuary is an area where a freshwater river or steam meets the ocean. I heard the heathered yarn is very soft. Thanks for the review. I agree you can get a variety of yarns other than red heart for a btr price. Herrschners offers a lot of free shipping.

There’s a rule that Ross mentioned & it’s always helpful to me. 100-200 yds per 100 grams = worsted; 200-300 yards per 100 grams = DK; 300-400 = sport; 400-500 = fingering.

I used the worsted 8 heathers yarn to make a blanket, it was so wonderful to work with and the blanket turned out so soft. that blanket was gifted to my brother and his wife who loved it so much and they could not believe that I took the time to make something so wonderful for them.... I love him to pieces and that was the least I could give.

I love Herrschner's , I have never been disappointed with my orders . Kim from The Crafty Nomad turned me on to their Basic Worsted for diverse skin tones. It isn't the softest in the skein but really softens in the wash. I toss most of my budget yarns in the dryer . When I am using a rough yarn I use a tension ring . It keeps the yarn off my skin .

I took a soft yarn I like and made what grandma would call a finger stall. It is a comfortable fitting knit, one finger of a glove. That let's the working yarn slide over your finger easily. It took a couple of tries to get it to fit tight enough, but not too tight. I can't do without it.

That cotton would make nice baby items, I have a good friend who’s pregnant. Just a tip from someone who spins yarn, if you work from the outside of the skein the yarn works as made. If you pull from the center it will ad twist to your yarn, I always work from the outside. Great review!

I love their brand yarns and their worsted 8 is my favorite. It all depends on the color too because some colors are softer then others for some reason. I do love that you did the worsted 12 I always wondered about it and now I know. As a side note: ever tried using those rubber finger covers for the more rougher yarns? Seeing you struggle through it was sad and those covers popped in my head when seeing it rub over you. Maybe that could help with the chaffing and cracking of the skin
@thefarmista
@thefarmista 3 жыл бұрын
The roughness of certain colors has to do with the dyeing process- some colors need to be very saturated so that it gets the desired shade on acrylic yarn🙂 I've noticed gray is usually a "softer" color in most acrylic yarns🤷🏼‍♀️

Enjoyed your review of the Herrschner's yarn. I find the regular worsted 8 is good for amigurumi because it is tightly spun and doesn't split. If only someone would make soft line of yarn with the enormous color variety of supersaver. I'd be willing to pay a premium for that.

Adding on to the recommendations of others 😊, have you tried a thin glove (** Not a glove for snow! Like a disposable one. **) for your hands when they are sore? The way I wrap yarn around my index finger, for tension, causes a callus across the top. Or a yarn thimble/ ring? When I remember to use a glove or other apparatus, to protect my tender spot, it is better. Especially when I'm doing a bunch of crochet each day. It takes time to get use to having something extra in/on your hands but it is nice to be able to continue working on a project without soreness. Good luck healing 🤕🤗.

@@impunitythebagpuss That sounds awful. Maybe the glove idea isn't the best. I have cut a finger from a nitrile glove to wear on the sore finger. I also cut the tip off of the finger section for air flow. It works alright. I don't use it all the time and I have a yarn thimble also. I found it in the notions section at Hobby Lobby. Alternating between them when it hurts seems to help. I hope you can find something that helps you when you need it.

If you are having trouble with yarn coming apart (untwisting), and you have started from the center of the skein/ball/cake, change and work from the outside of the skein. This is especially true for crochet because if how the yarn moves and twists as it is worked. Not all yarn is put up to be worked from the center. Also, if you are left-handed (which I am), some yarns tend to untwist as it is worked because it goes in the opposite direction when the stitches are formed. I've seen a lot of changes in yarn in the 50+ years I've been crocheting and knitting.
