My dad went to a high school in San Francisco that has the Wildcats as a mascot. They have a ridiculously well funded drama department, are extremely academically competitive, and I grew up going to basketball games there. The writer of the original High School Musical movie went to the rival school of my dad’s high school. I’m not gonna say that this movie (which I grew up with) was his way to roast that school. Buuuuuuut . . . You can come to your own conclusions there
@seanthebluesheep6 ай бұрын
That's such a weird roast. "Hey losers, I'm going to write a generation defining movie for one of the biggest media channels out there, and I'm going to make the captain of your basketball team a worldwide heartthrob. Considering there's one character who transfers to the school and gets swept off their feet by the captain of the basketball team and changes his life, I think maybe Gabriela is just a self-insert OC into this guy's high school fantasy.
@julesking13036 ай бұрын
@@seanthebluesheepI genuinely believe that the writer never thought that this movie would have a real impact. His only prior movie writing credit was an action movie starring Wesley Snipes and Gary Busey. The tone could not be more different. I think his thought was that he would write a silly teen movie for the Disney Channel and cash out, but when it was really successful he signed on. The fact that he likely based the movie’s setting on the rival school that had major beef with his high school is just extra funny to me. I also find it hilarious that the cafeteria of the high school in the movies has a strange resemblance to the cafeteria/entrance plaza to the theater stage of this particular school.
