You describe me perfectly at 21:48, and since I have several other Worx tools that use the same 20V battery, I just purchased their latest iteration of the saw you tested. They’ve recently re-branded all of their brushless tools as “Nitro“, and I’ve been pleased with the value they represent, going back over 10 years ago when I purchased their first string trimmer. Yes, they are consumer grade, but that’s exactly what I need. Great video. Scott

Thanks for your time and effort to demonstrate these two battery powered chainsaws. It’s clear that you favoured the Stihl from the get go until you found the torque of the Worxv just kept it cutting under greater pressure. I was concerned at first that your bias would spoil the comparison. In the end it just emphasised the differences between these two saws. We’ll done.

DeWalt 60 Volt Max Chainsaw; it is the top rated battery chainsaw for the money. Researched and looked at them all before I bought the DeWalt. Milwaukee and Husqvarna electrics were also very high rated saws, but cost more than the DeWalt. Another reason I bought the DeWalt, I can use the 60 Volt Max batteries in all my 20 volt DeWalt tools. It somehow knows to power down to 20v for the 20v tools, but will last 3 times as long. Very versatile and useful platform. Another plus, the DeWalt has a 16 inch bar. I have cut down and bucked some 12 inch hardwoods with it. Very impressive saw!

I have not a lot of experience with battery chainsaws, but I just got a 16-inch bar 8,0 Ah 40V max Nitro Worx chainsaw and when I tried it for the first time, I was amazed and speechless at how fast it went through a 6-inch cherry tree log. No more than 5 seconds and totally effortless, like a steel knife through soft butter. I needed about 200 seconds to achieve the same with a small bowsaw. Obviously the chain was very sharp, brand new, and well oiled too. It is noisy but a much less offensive noise than a gas chainsaw. At source noise must be about 90 dbAs meaning that holding it at armslength, we get about 85 dbAs into our unprotected ears, compared to about 105 and 100 dbAs with a typical gas chainsaw.

I think there may be a difference in the chains themselves. The chain on the Stihl may be a finer cut and nit as aggressive in the pitch as the worx. The chains need to be matched to make the test somewhat more fair. Just saying. 👮🏻♂️👍Chip

sherwood gillette The chain on the Stihl saws is pretty narrow on their little saws. As you see on the video, they tend to bind b/c of that.

The Worx uses batteries that can be used in smaller tools. It's part of a family they call 40V Power Share. Each of these tools uses two 20V batteries that also can be used by the tool in the 20V Power Share series. These tools range from drills and impact drivers to lawn movers, a shop vacuum and a couple of different chainsaws. Note that Worx also have a series called 40V Share Volt and these are not compatible with the Power Share tools. Something to be aware of... So if you already have some Worx tools it may be a good idea to also get their chainsaw. Same with the Stihl. Already got some other device using the same batteries then getting the Stihl is probably a good idea. Finally if you have no previous tools then either just look at the saws and get the one that fit your usage profile the best or the one with the compatible tools you are planing to get anyway. Locking yourself into a product line means you will have to compromise. No one manufacturer has the best tool for everything, so look for a manufacturer that has the best tools for your particular use, and compromise on the less used tools.

Never really looked at the Electric chainsaw line up, till now. Neat vid. Tnx.

I love my Worx chainsaw and jawsaw. I've never started my cuts with the chain already touching the log, so that half second of response time on the front end isn't important to me. Plus, my batteries are standard worx batteries and are interchangeable.
@paulrice19184 жыл бұрын
It seems like they will both do the job. If the battery life is about the same I believe the worx would win because of torque. You buy a chainsaw to cut wood and the worx just cuts better plus you can buy two of them for one stihl. Something you did not cover was how long does it take to charge the respective batteries and of course you have to charge two worx to one stihl.

For me it seems the Stihl sound runs at a higher speed than the worx. To me that may translate into faster chain revolutions but the worx is slower but has more power. Not having a lot of money I probably would go with the Worx. It may or may not last as long but these are not made to cut a bunch of cords of wood. They are considered trim saws not logging saws.

One caveat I’ve found in these kinds of companies is continuity of the product line. I would guess that repair parts will be available from Stihl for a long time whereas the next release in the Worx cordless chainsaws will likely be built from incompatible parts (other than perhaps the battery). Also, what percentage is plastic vs metal. Anyway, thanks for letting us share in the fun. Looked like you were having a blast.

While I’m kind of liking the works it a depends on how long each saw holds up and witch saw is built better! Looks like the Worx uses the same batteries in a lot of different tools, not sure about the Stihl. I would be interested to know how long each saw runs before the batteries go. It would make a big difference if one ran 20 minutes and the other ran 40. The Worx was clearly more aggressive so better for the larger 8" wood than the Stihl. I'm sure either one would make a great limbing saw, lots less effort than the gas saw you would be using to cut down a lot of trees. Next up, how many hours do the saws go before they are trashed ;) For the price the Worx looks a lot better on the wallet so if the battery life and tool life are equal I'd probably go with the Worx.
