Very generic advices, toppers already know which college they shall go for and I'm sure you wouldn't be getting dms from GATE toppers regarding college selection. Beyond 2000 rank also people can get into NITs. GATE score matters. Ex: Marks=35, Rank = 10,000, Score = 420, then according to CCMT data, except top 3-5 NITs, rest all 10-12 NITs have accepted score of 350-400 in their last rounds and that is where the real challenge is in choosing a NIT over other.
