Hi Ali. I am a junior doctor from India. I want to buy an ipad to read and annotate medical ebooks (mostly pdfs about 1gb in size on average). I want to know if there is any difference in the rendering speed / reading experience between the ipad 10.2 inch vs ipad pro ? ). What i mean is flipping pages . Zooming in to paragraphs etc. Your reply would be highly valuable to me. Thank you

The screen refresh rate of ipad pro is double to that of other ipads, also unique. So yes smoother experience, but you’ll only notice it if you have it sidewise with other screen, otherwise not. for book reading, the price and power is overkill.

Get an older iPad Pro! I have the 9.7 inch rose gold iPad Pro and it's brilliant. Yes it doesn't have the nice bezels of the new iPad Pros but it's not a big deal. I got it for £399 refurbished (looks brand new) 32gb cellular model but I'm sure you can find them cheaper now as I got mine in 2018.

My friend bought an iPad Pro 12 inch. I tried out. I bought iPad Air 3. The pro is a great device. It better to be - it costs more than most laptop computers. Its huge 120hz screen is definitely a game changer and Apple Pencil 2nd gen offers one of the great stylus experience. But do you really need it? No. There’s a reason why it’s called pro. It’s heavy and very expensive. I needed iPad Air 3 for notetaking and watching videos. I’m content with my purchase. It does pretty much everything that an iPad Pro can do. The screen size is enough. And it’s much lighter. I carry it around all day without a problem. I would’ve liked Pro’s fast responsive screen and pencil but why spend almost twice the money when you can do the same thing, at a cost of just minor speed loss? You may have enough money but you don’t always have to buy the best thing out in the market. Unless you’re a professional designer I really don’t see why you would need pro. I’m gonna mention this once more, Pro is way too heavy. It was never designed for everyday use. If you need an iPad for note taking get an Air because the original doesn’t have a laminated screen and it feels weird writing on it. If your purpose is watching videos iPad is good enough.

I semi agree. I had the 9.7 iPad 6th gen and its was completely fine for note taking and media. I upgraded to iPad Pro 12.9 it’s over kill In a good way. It’ll last you many years into the future like 120 hz screen, use c, A12x chip, and slim bezel + taking notes is much much better (not 400+ better tho). Multi tasking with textbook on one side and notes on the other side is so nice with an notebook size screen. So to me, iPad Air and 11in pro isn’t worth it (FOR ME) but I do argue that the budget ipad is the best option for college but air if you do have a bit more to burn. the pro is really the best if 1. U have a laptop 2. Money 3. Planning on using it for over 5 years , especially for notes and textbooks (medical students).

faye wong depends what you need it for. just note taking and media consumption, 64 is enough. if you wanna save a okay amount of photos and videos/ graphic designing, i recommend 128 or 256gb. if photo editing and videos, try to get as much as possible

David Livingston unless you’re extremely used to smooth 120hz screen like gaming pc, you will not notice a big difference. and it depends on the app you use to take notes. i use good note 5 and the 2 ipad writing is pretty much identical. however, if you use the default note app (dont really recommend it due to the limitations), ipad pro is very different due to the screen refresh rate, very much like paper and pencil while the ipad air have a slight (very small) delay. but you don’t really notice it unless you’re writing really fast and large.

I just watched two 20 min videos before this comparing iPads, and they were all just talking about the technical differences. Like, I could just go to the apple site for that I'm not watching out a video to find out one has 450 nits, and another has 500. This was exactly what I needed! Clear, and straight to the point! Thank you! I've subscribed, you clearly know what you're talking about and aren't here to summarize points from the apple site, but actually opinionated about practical usage of the iPads.

My parents got me a “budget” iPad and I absolutely love it. I even use an Apple Pencil (gen 1) to take notes with it. For a keyboard I have a foldable case with a keyboard that I just stick in it so it’s really awesome for me.

I watched the entire video BECAUSE he had the conclusion at the very start. I feel like the video has more value when the creator doesn't feel the need to make it as long as possible only to come to a conclusion that's something like, "Ultimately, it really just depends on your personal preference." 🙄 I've always enjoyed Ali's videos though. It is not common to see doctors and scientists do a product review like this, and when they do, it certainly has to be a gold standard for all the gadget reviewers and unboxers. This review takes into account viewers’ valuable time, makes a clear distinction between different user types and their product utility and budget, also looks into the economics of the product in terms of lifecycle and depreciation. Thank you for an excellent summary. You're the first person that has managed to convince me not to buy an iPad Pro, and to get an iPad Air instead. Other reviewers just brushed over everything, without diving deep into the actual discussion of value-price. I do graphic design and animation, and I'm currently studying Interactive Media Design, so I thought it'd be logical to get the Pro (I was planning on saving up for the 11-inch). However, listening to your explanation has made me realize that that'd be an unnecessary investment, having in mind that I already have a 2018 Zenbook Pro for all of the work I need and that I was actually looking for a consumption device, with some light work-related needs. Finally a video from someone who actually has a job like the rest of us and is not reviewing for colleague-KZbinrs. I was looking for a proper review to see if iPad is useful for me as a consultant who also uses a lot of Office (probably not). The only thing everyone seems to be skipping is the difference lightning port vs usb-c. If You are buying just an iPad and all your other electronics are usb-c, the lightning port on the iPad becomes a hassle and you need to spend a lot on adapters and cables you would otherwise already have...
