People spend too much time gassing on gear (I am guilty as well) but practice will give you better tone then even the most expensive gear every time

Enjoyed the comparison vid. Although I'm almost 62 I don't think the extra bang for my buck is worth the extra $ for the vintage pedal. I have the modern version and it sounds great through my Mesa Lonestar.

Bit surprised it's only good for such a specific use case scenario. Kinda would have thought you could just run it into a clean amp. Still, it sounds good in your tests.

They sound indistinguishable to me. I'd take the new one as the switch actually works and it's a lot less expensive! I believe they both use momentary switches. The difference is that the LED stays on for the new version when the effect is on.

I own two DS-1s. One from 1993 (I got it new back then: it's the last year of the classic circuity, because in 1994 they changed to what is now considered "worse"), and the new Waza version, which in "standard" mode, has the newest DS-1 circuit. Forgetting the fact that you can't generally put the knobs in the exact same position expecting the exact same sound, they are ever so slightly different, but you'd never be able to tell unless you're instantly switching back and forth between the two. I'll never understand this business about not playing the DS-1 through a clean amp. Neither of mine sound as strangled as they do in this video. I play mine through a late 70s Twin Reverb at low volume (thus, NOT at the "point of breakup"), and it's fantastic. If you add an EQ pedal right after it, you get an absurd range of sound possibilities. Remember: experiment with tone controls! Even just tweaking the three band EQ I have on my amp changes the sound a ton, so don't rely exclusively on the one tone knob on the pedal. When using external tone controls, if you give it too much treble and midrange, it will sound nasal. Instead, don't be afraid to raise the bass, ease off on the high and mid, and crank the distortion!

I bought one in 1977. For a lead using a single coil pickup, it can be ok as a boost. Otherwise it is just about the worst sounding pedal I've ever heard. No offence meant to anyone.

Seems unlikely as they were released in 1978.

@@asw7696 ok, then it was 78. It was awhile ago so I'm sure a smart person like you can understand.
