It is widely held that wild-caught fish is better and more genuine than farmed fish. In truth, the difference is not so pronounced and both options have their advantages.
Undoubtedly the range of choice of wild-caught fish is incomparably wider than that of farmed fish. Wild-caught fish also have a superior nutritional composition and meat flavour. However, in recent decades, severe overfishing of commercial fish stocks has not only reduced the quantity of “wild-caught fish” at the global level, it has also damaged many natural habitats and endangered the survival of numerous species. Conversly, farmed fish present considerable advantages in nutritional and health terms.
