I've fired several small 25's, and found all of them - even the cheapies - to be surprisingly accurate and no problems with feeding. For a small pocket gun, they would be my first choice. Of course, we have all been told that they lack power to stop a fight. Strangely, I have never heard this from anyone who was shot with one, so I'll withhold judgement for now.

The original James Bond gun in Ian Fleming's James Bond books was a Beretta .25 before graduating to a .32 Walther PPK. A Walther PP was used in the movies! I once had a .25 Beretta, which I had no complaints about, but sold it and bought a .22 Beretta because of the cost of ammo. I put over 5,000 rounds through it with never a misfire with CCI ammo. I never really saw any difference between the .22 and the .25 either, back in the 1980 s, except the price of ammo.

Ian Fleming was issued a .25 in WWII, and he kept it and it wound up in his estate. Listed as a Browning .25, the 1908 model with grip safety, possibly a FN , however the serial number matches a Colt 1908, .25 .

Erin O'Toole of CPC is def not a centrist and I recommend you check him out. However, vote as you will but if gun ownership is very high on your priority then you'll at least check him out. If you haven't already joined the CCFR, I would highly recommend that as they are fighting the ban in court and please donate to their legal campaign!

Given the reliability of quality .22 ammo in a well operating gun is probably around 99%, I'll take my chances using a .22. Also affords me the ability to practice a lot more and have more fun in general. If you are going to buy one and not shoot it much, then .25 ACP would make sense.

I've been shot with a .22 lr from a small pocket pistol. let me tell ya... IT HURTS A LOT!!! i was lucky and only got shot in the arm. (Bar fight where two guys were fighting and i was an innocent bystander in the bar. one pulled the pistol and fired missing his expected target and hit me in the arm) I can tell you from experience if you get shot with a .22 lr you are done. you don't want to keep advancing on someone. Pay no attention to people who have never been shot who come on youtube trying to tell you that the .22 lr is too weak for self defense. They have never been shot by any caliber firearm. so they are not speaking from expertise or experience. They have no clue unless they have been shot with that caliber. one bullet was enough for me.... nevermind getting shot more than once....

Recently, there have been dozens of new videos by different You Tuber's talking about .22 for self defense. With all the social unrest, .22's have a lot of appeal to the common man. Now, almost all of those same channels repeat the old mantra about rimfire unreliability and feeding issues in .22 autos. NONE of them so much as mention .25. They blow right past it and go on to .380. Lucky Gunner at least, gets all misty eyed about .32 and the comments are full of guys lamenting that they don't load .32 hot enough. Still, the .25 gets no love. It's CENTERFIRE, thus eliminating .22 lr's greatest flaw. It feeds in auto loaders reliably. It fits in much smaller packages than even the .32. What's not to like? I bet if Kel Tec came out with a polymer .25 that held 15 rounds and fits in your pocket, they'd sell like hot cakes. If the ammo industry put any effort at ALL into it, .25 could be loaded to easily beat .22 lr ballistics. I think in today's market .25 has a lot of potential.

Great vid. I’ve been in law enforcement and the security field since 2010, and I’ve seen these little mouse guns do some serious up close and personal damage. I’d recommend a Beretta 25 acp Bob Cat in 25 acp if your going the mouse gun route. If you want to use a 22, I’d go with a revolver due to questionable reliability from rim fire rounds. If one doesn’t go off, pull the trigger till it does. The 22 mag smith and Wesson 7 shot PD is a excellent choice. Just my 2 cents. Stay safe, vigilant, and protect other’s my good people✊

I think it comes down to this: most of us have a small collection of .22 rimfire rounds that failed to fire. But I for one can’t think of a single time I’ve had a centerfire round fail to go bang. John Browning wasn’t stupid. That was the whole point of him creating the 25. Ballistics aside, the reliability of a 25 versus a 22 alone makes most other issues a moot point.

+Tom Well Just to reference your own words about some people talking about something they don't know. I and most real gun people will tell you a .25 is NOT adequate for self defense and a .380 backup gun is much much more powerful at pretty much the same size. The .25 is not really GOOD for anything, not sure why it hasn't died yet.

Even his "old" videos are still top shelf. Paul has such a way of making complicated things seem simple. And he has a wicked sense of humor. When that soda jug sprayed him, you could hear the sigh of irritation like he's thinking "of all the directions it could have sprayed, it chose me". I love this guy. And this is the most dangerous man in any room. Quiet, soft spoken, unassuming, and oh so deadly. This guy could kill you without getting angry, and *THAT* is one dangerous cat

One point in favor of the 25 acp is being able to get proper FMJ bullets as opposed to the plated lead found in 22. I've yet to be convinced about the lighter expanding bullets, I prefer the 50gr standard FMJ bullet from the fastest round available to give the best penetration if anything hard gets in the way of the bullet. At the close distances these little guns are meant for, 9 rounds of 25 acp from a fast firing Beretta 950. or similar are going to stop anyone, IMO, if you can hit the target as discussed in the video. No I wouldn't choose 25 acp if I knew I was heading for a fight, but sometimes a little pistol is all you can conceal, or it may be all you have left if your main carry fails or is lost in a scuffle. Those who mock 25 acp would I'm sure rather have one than nothing in a self defense situation.

I would like to see 25 acp make a come back. NAA made a 25 cartridge that was really neat for a pocket pistol but thats about the only improvement of that little guy. I think 25acp is probably a better choice than 22lr for a self defense pistol mostly because of the reliability factor however the poor choice of guns chambered in 25 and some of them being quite antiquated makes me question that reliability factor hence the need for 25 acp to make a come back so we have new guns chambered in it. I can say this 22lr zips pretty fast and has a tendency to do nasty wounds with the bullet tumbling going different directions and splitting apart were as 25 and 32 acp usually just goes in the target straight and narrow.

The reason that 22 ammo is sometimes hard to find is that EVERYONE is hording a ton of it. the make and model of the gun is more important. about 18 yrs ago, my father-in-law gave me his old Lorcin .25 acp because he didn't want it anymore. lorcin was one of the "ring of fire" garbage zinc alloy manufacturers like the phoenix Paul mentioned. I took it to the desert, popped a few rounds into paper, and it seemed as though about half the holes were elongated, like Paul had in this video. what made me reluctant to keep that POS was when I shot it at one of those big old school coke bottles. I fired at about 25 feet. the bottle didn't break, and I nearly had to duck because I saw the round coming back towards me! went over my head and scared the crap out of me.

For a self defense pocket pistol is better .25, it was designed specificly for a short barrel and it is more reliable, however today we have very little tiny pistols in larger calibers and also the gun laws are much more restrictive, It is not like in the 1800s when you could have a gun hidden in a purse and go legally wherever you want, today people who can carry weapons for self defense prefer a subcompact .380

I was messing with some .25 ammo today and looking at my S&W bodygaurd. If you made a double stack mag you could fit 17 rounds of .25 acp into a gun the same size as the Bodygaurd. 7 rounds of .380 or 18 rounds of .25 ????? I think one of our gun manufacturers should consider making a micro .25 with modern polymer and a high capacity double stack. You could make an ultra tiny gun that weighs next to nothing with a really high capacity.

Imo a .22 LR in a pocket gun or "b.u.g." would be best in a revolver, I personally wouldn't be comfortable trusting my life to an autoloader in .22 which can jam up by stovepiping, failing to feed, or any of the other issues .22 has in certain semi-automatic guns.

It wasn't too long ago, but I got a used Buckmark that is actually doing very well. I had some issues with some old lead rounds I found at my dad's house (goodness only knows how old it was...he's been gone for five years and hadn't hunted in probably at least 20 before that) and had a couple jams. But I'm really impressed with the way it fires. I've had absolutely no jams since. I've been using a variety of ammo since every time I find some, I can never find it again with the exception of some CGI stuff I got at Dunham's. But everything so far has done super. I'm wary of getting more "modern" looking autoloaders, though, because of that issue with others. I'm now seriously thinking about a small .22LR revolver to carry! I've considered a .357 snub nose to match my regular 6" .357 but ammo for that is getting really hard to find around here.

Though I enjoy Mr. Harrell's channel a lot, I believe he missed the two most significant factors in the comparison: 1. reliable functioning, and 2. penetration. First, the .25 acp pocket pistols are a world apart from the .22 rimfire because the .25 cycles and ignites the primer much more reliably than any .22 rimfire pocket pistol. The .25 projectile is of a smooth copper jacket offering minimal friction when chambering whereas the rimfire utilizes a dry, sticky lubricant that both creates lots of friction along accumulation of the lubricant at the mouth of the chamber. Couple this with the minimal mass of the slide coupled with a relatively weak slide spring leading to .22 rimfire pocket pistols that suffer significant failure rates to reliably cycle their ammunition. Also, the .25 acp's center fire primer fires more reliably than a rimfire primer. This is because the rimfire pocket pistols feature weak hammer springs that frequently fail to deliver an adequate dent to the rim of the cartridge case; conversely, the .25 acp primer was purpose built for the application. Second, the .25 acp delivers superior penetration than the .22 rimfire from pocket pistols. Both caliber configurations generate similar muzzle velocities, but the .25 enjoys a 20% weight advantage for greater momentum. The .25 with a copper jacket compared to the raw lead of the rimfire means the .25 is less likely to deform during penetration. This is significant since the 60 - 70 ft. lbs of energy available is quite marginal at best for reliable penetration. Any projectile expansion will only reduce that marginal penetration. For these reasons, the .25 acp pocket pistol is a better choice than the .22 rimfire; neither being a good first choice of course.

They are absolutely timeless, practical, reliable, and ergo, for many scenes!☝️ That 1908, has a smaller footprint than my cell phone. As you demonstrated, it can effectively put rounds downrange in a room size building straight between the eyes. 👌Great shot placement! Personal opinion one of the better fame/caliber for a SHTF scenarios. I’m no physicists or scientist, but I’ll be damn! Those carbonated bottles really do demonstrate, visually. The kinetic energy of different calibers down range, very well! the one place a 25 caliber really shines is in the long range game. calibers like 25 06 or 257 weatherby are some of the flattest shooting calibers out there and are a favorite of westen hunters for mountain top to mountain top shots. granted these are two completely different animals , i just didnt want people to get the impression that 25 was a poor caliber no matter the barrel and powder charge behind it. i researched almost a year before settling on an remington 700 in 25 06 as my long range shooter. less than half the drop of a 308 at 500 yards plus another 400 yards of range than the 308 has with a lot less recoil.

Many 380's are nearly as small and light as a 22, or 25, but have even more power, and are easier to buy ammo for than 22 and no more expensive than 25. Then came the 380+P ammo. Another difference--.22 small pistols are blowback, while .25 are positive extraction. That means if a .22 fails to cycle, you can't get the casing out by racking the slide. You have to hold back the slide and use a fingernail to get the shell out. A .25 can (usually) be cleared by racking the slide. In a defense situation, that is a major difference. Also, I think the nice .32 compact pistols were another factor in replacing the .25.

You can't do that with any of your Raven, Phoenix, Bryco/Jennings/Jiminez, or Cobra/Davis guns made out of zamak or pot metal. For current production models, I think Taurus would probably be the only option if you want to shoot handloaded .25, but you would have to worry about extraction failures.
