Hi Dylan why my Breville Dual Boiler never gets to 9 bars like yours?
@cybernessful3 жыл бұрын
When you flip a cup to portafilter, just shake it few times before pulling it up. That will help to break all clumps. Edit: ah, someone already told you :) Niche is indeed 63 mm burrs, but you can't compare it straight to a size of flat burrs, because a cutting surface is different between flat and conical for the same diameter.
@DylansHomeEspressoBar3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it 100% declumps so much easier when you shake it first! Thank you again for that recommendation
@P.D.K.9603 жыл бұрын
@@DylansHomeEspressoBar If you don't tap your dosing cup before filling in the grinds maybe you don't need any declumping with the niche....but thats only a guess. I own none of these grinders but i'm very interested in the niche. Thanks for your video! Best regards

I ordered from Kruve a swifter to check the grind sizes etc. Have you used it to check the grind in each of the two grinder? My swifter is supposed to be arriving tomorrow. I ordered it on January 15 and has taken a month to arrive!

You should definitely look into WDT. It could just be a wine cork with some needles stuck into it or a couple of paperclips. You use it to break up the coffee grounds in the portafilter. Because no matter how you transfer grounds into the portafilter it will never be uniformly distributed. Especially if you use that dosing cup, it will compact in different ways. The "Distributor" tool that you use, i also have one, but I stopped using mine, because it doesn't help only hurts. Check Lance Hedrick for more info....
@BensCoffeeRants3 жыл бұрын
The non magnetic one is a better design since it doesn't go INTO the portafilter it sits on the ledge. Magnetic one might be ok depending on how low it goes into the coffee and your basket size and dose. I guess you're used to single dosing and that's why you're forgetting to weight your dose with the Eureka grinder. For tasting notes you might not get them with straight espresso it's too intense, I've heard diluting with water helps, making something like an americano. (update: Oh someone else commented that already, nice lol) 24:47 I think you created the clumps when you knocked the cup down before pouring it out, compacting the coffee in the cup, I never noticed that being an issue when I had the niche, the issue I had was getting it a relatively level and not sloped to one side whenever I poured it into the basket, but that's just a technique thing to work on. You don't seem to have that issue. 35:15 Just be nice to your wife and she won't mess with your grind settings to drive you crazy. :D I haven't tried using the sputum tool or pump on the Niche Zero (probably not necessary) but on the Eureka Specialita I've used it and I noticed there are a lot of very fine coffee dust particles which I think could affect the quality of your extraction so might be better NOT to use the pump except when you want to clean old grounds out of the grinder. I can't tell from the video but I assume it might be the same with the Niche Zero. I noticed the dust because usually coffee grounds don't stick to dosing funnel but when I pumped the low weight of the dust and slight amount of static results in lot of dust stuck on the funnel. I found with conical burr grinders you do get more sourness / or acidity, and maybe less bitterness, at least with light roasts, I think it makes interesting milk drinks sometimes, but I usually prefer flat burrs taste. With a dark roast I think some people prefer conical burr grinders, probably because there's not much acidity to begin with on those, and then you get less bitterness. In the future maybe try dialing them in before the video if you want to shorten your video length, but it does show the process that people have to go through :D Especially with a new grinder where you don't really know how big or small each adjustment really makes. Gets easier to dial in once you're used to it. 1hr 05 - that cups huge, pretty sure that's a latte :) My cappuccino cups are like 8oz.

I agree with Barista Brittany raw espresso is awful. But, @L.L.COOLRAY is correct, making a long black or americano will bring out coffee tasting notes. I find 226g to 283g of water to a normale shot (1:2-2.5) is best.

I’ve been shopping around for a grinder. I’m new to the BBE and think a better grinder will up the flavors! Thanks for reviewing these two excellent grinders! The Atom may be an option! Looking at a Sette, too! Thanks and love the cookie face lol!
@DylansHomeEspressoBar3 жыл бұрын
Haha thank you! The cookie face was my wife’s nice little touch 😂 and you really can’t go wrong with either one! I would prefer the niche grinder for at home use due to its ability to dial in fast and waste little to no coffee! And it really stands up to any commercial grinder on the market!

I can't recommend the sette 270 series. There is a video on here titled "Time to say goodbye... Grinder Comparison and shots on the Decent DE1+ Pro" where a guy takes one apart and the build quality is trash. They use plastic gears that can melt and the fine control knob loosens and rotates on its own plus it isn't true stepless. He compares it to an atom 75 which was his replacement fwiw. I don't have a niche and have the atom's baby brother the 55mm flat burr mignon specialita so can't talk on either of the grinders show here but I know the niche is well regarded and I would love to try one out and see if I like the conical burs over the flat burrs. Eureka is almost there. The grinder itself is good. I made a single dosing mod for my specialita and really like it, but they cheaped out on the top and front making them out of plastic (unlike that more expensive atom which is all metal i believe). One thing they do on both the mignon and the atom is the cheap-looking name stickers. But the grinders themselves are great and if bought from the right place are very economical.

I have the big issue with the Niche that all my good espressi from the past (with my old grinder) now taste sour. I'm really disappointed and am probably going to sell the Niche again if I can't get rid of this issue. Before the Niche I used the following recipe on my Mahlkoenig Peak: 19,5g in the filter and 30-32g in the cup, as a ristretto, in 22-24 seconds. I set my brew temp. to 93,6°C. With the Niche I tried anything - but all (!) sour. I go crazy :-D The best Ristretto (which is still not really good) is now on: 19,5g in the filter and 32g in the cup in 28-30 seconds, brew temp. is 96°C. Any idea where this may come from? I use an espresso I know very well with chocolate and nutty flavors.
@lifestyle30003 жыл бұрын
Update: I sold it and am super happy with it. I bought a flat burr grinder (Atom Speciality 75" and I love it. Coffee tasts great again. All the sourness is gone. Ciao Niche. Don't miss you at all.
@LD-tn6ff Жыл бұрын
@@lifestyle3000 Ya, the Niche is BEYOND over-rated. Half of the people online recommend it solely due to low retention and ease of workflow, while completely disregarding taste. The other half recommend it because J Hoffman did. When it comes to ACTUAL output, the particle distribution is BEYOND wide. It suits primarily new beginners as a wide particle distribution will result in a decent cup regardless of how well it's really dialed in. It also suits people who irrationally favor body over taste and clarity. That's it. If you don't fall into one of those two categories, it's not a great grinder. It's clearly been overhyped from online influencers.
