I'm a Canadian who has RV'd across the entire country, from the very tip of Newfoundland to the very edge of British Columbia. Over the past two years I have been to every province. I have not RV'd in the US, but have driven across the US. I don't really feel comfortable as a non-citizen of the United States taking my rig over the border. My impression after having watched many RV youtubers is that RVing in the US is better because major cities are MUCH closer together, gas is cheaper, the population higher and more evenly distributed, and the climate is generally warmer. My experience has also been that American's generally are friendlier and more outgoing then Canadians. That being said, Canada is an amazing country with beautiful landscapes. Canada feels safer to me (although in some places I don't think it is), and with less provinces then there are American states, there is less variability in laws, which makes traversing the country by RV less risky. I will say that most American RV youtubers drive through Canada to Alaska (usually entering in Alberta or BC), see a tiny sliver of our country, and make judgements of the country based on very limited information and experience. There are vast differences between RVing in Newfoundland as compared to Banff/Jasper area or BC. Each province has it's own vibe when it comes to RVing, there is a lot of variability in the quality of boondocking and paid facilities available in each province. For example, Ontario is largely ruled by provincial parks, but Quebec is dominated by lots of smaller privately owned campgrounds. Newfoundland has TONS of amazing boondocking and just amazing scenery. BC has a great mix of provincial parks and national parks; however, the facilities at BC provincial parks tend not to be as good as they are in other provinces. It really depends on what you are wanting out of your RV adventure.

This will show my age but in the past the travelers checks worked well, because if you got them in the USA and went to a bank in canada you would get a very good exchange rate. FYI other countries like Britain use miles still even though they are "metric" . If you have problem getting the chocolate out carb cleaner should get it out, then I spray it with 50/50 vinegar alcohol which I also use on the windows and it gets most stains out of cloth even my old work clothes. If you can spray from the inside out but not easy on a seat. It use to be so simple crossing the USA canadian border. Going into canada we would just say going fishing and spending money, on the way back the one border agent always said "If you caught anything other than fish see a doctor for a shot of penicillin"

Boondocking in Canadian National parks is easy to find by going to the overflow camping spots. They are less desirable for most RV people because of the lack of hookups. Some are near the railroad tracks though but staying there is cheaper and easier to get in.

@@OpenRoading Overflow camps in most Canadian National Parks are not parking lots, they are open meadows off the main highways that are just cut so the grass and flowers and weeds are kept down so vehicles and trailers/tents can be set up. When we asked at Safeway a clerk told us for privacy reasons the Canada prohibited using you phone number as a membership number. I am not 100% sure but it sounded plausible to us. We used up our Canadian dollars during our final fuel up. It is an easy way to spend your leftover money. Check with your bank on ATM fees. Our credit union doesn't charge foreign transaction fees and gives you the daily spot price on the exchange rate. The ATM usually charges a fee dollars but we take out $300 and the fee is usually $5 or less. Make sure you do the conversion....the first time we did this was in Mexico and we got 300 pesos instead of dollars. Then the $5 fee was 15%. Only made that mistake 1x.

Nan-eye-moe Bars is how its pronounced. And they are better cold, put them in the fridge, they cut better and just taste better. Hawkins cheezies are the best hands down! Wine gums taste like soap to me personally, i would’ve grabbed the swedish berries, so much better! Im a Canadian living in the US, first state i lived in was Alaska. I loved it but my family is on the border of Washington so we ended up there. Im glad you liked Canada, but i hope you come back and do the maritime provinces like Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick. They’re gorgeous! Safe travels ! 🤗

We always use the ATM. We have a bank that refunds fees so free to do. Conversion rates are very close to the global rate at the time of withdrawal. Just refuse the ATM bank’s conversion, they often try to get you with that.

Took us about two days to get everything dry and clean and tear all the insulation out from under the RV. Ran fans in the undercarriage for several days trying to dry out all the wood. Such a nightmare.

Aero bars are the best. Whenever I find those in the States I feel like I’ve hit the lottery. So much better than US chocolate. I agree with whoever said Old Dutch is better than Lays. I used to live in MN where Old Dutch is based, and I’ve been to the factory. Still warm potato chips off the line are the best.

Regarding getting local cash in any country. Do not convert at a US bank. When you get in country just go to an ATM and take out cash using your ATM card. You’ll get a great conversion rate. Best to use a bank that refunds any ATM fees. Regarding Starlink, we had no drop outs with our Gen3 Starlink all summer in Alaska and Canada.
@OpenRoading2 ай бұрын
That's awesome! We only experienced major issues in Hatcher pass when we had thick thick cloud cover for days on end. Otherwise we were just dealing with "slow" (for starlink) speeds. Usually between 20-30mbps down as opposed to the over 100 that you typically get. -J

@@OpenRoading If you are having cloud or even leaf issues try turning on the snow melt feature for Dishy. It actually increases the signal strength which is what warms the dish up to melt the snow.
@aflyr2 ай бұрын
@@mr_burky yes, Gen 3 is the latest standard dish receiver. There is also a new one out that is the mini-dish. We don't have the mini, we have the Gen 3. I think it helps that I mounted it on the roof of our motorhome in a quick release bracket. I did the quick release because if I'm in a location with lots of trees I can remove it from the roof and place it away from the location if there is available clear sky nearby. I think having it on the roof helps with reception because it will have a more open view in campgrounds where other rigs are nearby and might be blocking some of the visibility. I had other RVers traveling with me complaining their dishes slowed down when ours was working fine. Theirs were on the ground though.

Cash in a foreign country, use an ATM! It's a one step process . The only exception to that is if you are t tracking the exchange rate and it dips in your favor, then order some from your bank before you leave. Do not accept currency conversation at the ATM or a merchant. Use travel credit card with no foreign transaction fees. I'm still watching an and looking forward to seeing you try all the snacks.

Ok another great video. The Apple peanut butter and chocolate chip looks good. How about using mini chocolate chips, they might attach to the peanut butter better? Keep these cool videos coming. Former photographer here,, It looks like your main camera needs to have the sensor or lens cleaned. There are a bunch of hairs all over the left side of the screen. Take off lens put shutter on bulb and take a look at the sensor. Probably a bunch of junk on it. Had the same problem on a new camera right out of the box. Had an actual finger print on the sensor. Being a transplant (Dual Citizen), can give some additional tips for Canada. In terms of snacks, don't forget Kit Kat Bars - the Canadian ones taste completely different than the US ones (different company) and many consider them to have a richer chocolate taste and less sweet. In terms of Canadian currency - use an ATM at a Canadian Bank. I withdraw from a Canadian Bank's ATM whenever I am up there. I pay the exchange rate with no additional fee (besides the ATM fee). In terms of Cell Service, I now have Visible (Prepaid arm of Verizon). They provide 2GB per day of 4G/5G Canadian roaming slowing you down after that. Just a Diesel pump note - BP stations in the US have Black handles for Diesel. not green.
