I was going to do VIP Kid, but heard about Outschool from you. I got accepted as a teacher with Outschool the same day I submitted my application. I requested to list a class two days ago and it's still not approved or denied. I know they said their response times is longer due to more demand because of COVID, but considering how fast my application was approved, I was wondering why it is taking so long to get my class approved. Did it take long for your first one to get approved?

For VIPKid, having a freestanding TESOL certification is a good idea but it isn't necessary; VIPKid offers a free, short TESOL-VIPKid course at the end of the hiring process to those who don't have a certification already. Non-native English speakers can be hired with VIPKid. Just keep in mind that VIPKid requires that teachers have legal eligibility to work in the US/Canada and teachers are expected to be fluent in English.

@@KristinaGarcia The feedback is similar to VIPKID but with guitar-play closer to the fret wire, hold onto a certain whole note for four full beats, etc.. Right now my classes are all beginners, so the feedback is specific to the individual, but like with ESOL students have similar habits across the board. I ask the parents if they want written feedback, and I make a video after each class where I play the exercises/songs and cover inefficiencies that I heard and noticed in class.

I've been with VIP KID for 3 years, but I've been in the process of signing up with Outschool. I have an art education degree, but I also have a ton of hobbies I'm passionate about and skilled with. I am a graphic designer and I know I can create great powerpoints and lessons. How easy or difficult is it to attract students right away? I’m going to look more into this for sure! I’ve been with VIPKid since February. I was doing really well at first with bookings then only got 1 or 2 bookings here and there and now I’ve had none for weeks! Africa, she won't be able to teach with Outschool (hopefully that restriction will change in the future!). I might consider this! I love VIP but I would never want it to be a full time job with the hours, especially in the summer. I love teaching kids how to do canvas paintings, which I think could work for can class, except it includes transferring a coloring page onto canvas, so it isn't fully original. I also love creating scavenger hunts, and escape rooms, but I'm not sure if there's anyway that those could be integrated into outschool. What are your thoughts? Also. Love reading to kids and math

Hey there, Stacy! Given your creativity, I bet you'll have no issue coming up with solutions in order to deliver some awesome classes! With scavenger hunts, I envision you putting together a PowerPoint of Google Slides where your students learn as they explore something new! Perhaps they could also do a "show and tell" type of scavenger hunt in which they have to share what they find in their home with the class (for example, "find something shiny"). You've probably got lots of practice getting kids to show you items from their home with VIPKid! 😅

@@annamarie2450 You can simply post the printable worksheet in the "classroom" when students have booked your class! When you submit a class request, you can also include it there (and explain in the description that they should come to class with it printed.) Does this explanation make sense? 😅

Yes you have to apply a video but it can be a quick and easy video where you’re just showing your “classroom” or background and telling them the things your passionate about it! I thought it was a lot easier of a hiring process than VIPkid and from what I can tell they’re not picky about lighting. I just had a blackboard and whiteboard behind me with some magnets on them and they seemed pretty happy with that

Hey there, Tammy! Yes, you submit an intro video when you apply...but it's super simple and from what I've been hearing, they're not picky! Ideally, you'll want to record in the space where you'll teach. Teaching experience with VIPKid can be something like nannying, tutoring, coaching, or homeschooling. VIPKid requires teachers to have legal eligibility to work in the US or Canada (such as residency or a work visa) so I'm guessing you may not qualify...but it sounds like you'd be a great fit for Outschool! You can teach multiple subjects, for sure. When starting out, you'll want to narrow down on one specific idea for the hiring process. Teaching acting sounds amazing! @@mythreechildren1737 Yes, we do. So let's say for example that you teach an hour-long class at $20/student to six students. Initially, that class is generating $120, which becomes $84 after Outschool's 30%---then if we very conservatively estimate 30% in taxes, you are still left with $58.8. That's not bad for an hour! Just my two cents!

Hey, Michele! I hear your concern! Many teachers feel hesitant because of that. Ultimately, the onus is on you to make sure you have permission to use the resources you would like to use...but it's not usually as tricky as you may think! Most publishers are easy to contact and there are lots of copyright-free resources. Are you a part of any Facebook groups for Outschool? That may help you brainstorm!

I will probably experiment with a few video game related classes too, never thought I could make money playing video games before. I am definitely excited about branching out of VIPKID. I am definitely starting to feel burnout from the endless redundant slides. I love VIPKID, but it also seems there will never be much growth potential financially for teachers with VIPKID. The financial growth potential I see with Outschool seems outstanding. I will probably continue teaching for both for the time being, primarily because of my VIPKID students, but I will gradually start easing off of VIPKID more than likely.

There are also Facebook groups for Outschool where you can share your class link...and social media can be a great way to advertise your own classes, too! It's not much work to list a class (you essentially put together an outline.) Then if you see that students begin to enroll, you can spend some more time hammering out the details!
