808 heartbreaks was a depressing album but it had some bangers. If we talking about music and sound of the album 808 will win. But if we talking a body of work all the way through lyrics sound and a great story FHD takes it.

I think the problem is the one on the right got caught up in the legacy of Kanye. Kanye is a legend, no question, but this is about the albums they are comparing, not Cole and Kanye's legacy. 808's changed the sonics of hip hop, but FHD is just an overall better album, in my opinion. Just because something is impactful, doesn't automatically make it better than something else.
@iSmileFX6 жыл бұрын
808s changed hiphop because the album was ahead of its time and 10/10 it would be almost STUPID for cole not to make a better sonically sounding album. because music is SUPPOSED to surpass the past. thats why we keep evolving. 808s is the better album however. As a rap fan most would be disappointed with it, and easy to say Cole won. ... we say tupac is the best because of the impact it left years down the line. jay z probably made a better sounding album to you with 444 than any tupac album. does that mean the album was better? NO. because alot of factors go into this shit.
@hvjcv6 жыл бұрын
808's is just a great album to me with or without the influence it had on hip-hop... i just don't see how you can compare these two albums cuz there is literally nothing to compare ... on one album the artist is singing on the other the artist is rappin.. one has chill/melancholy beats the other them boom bap joints... singing about loss and grief / bars,metaphors.... to me u can't really compare them but since they did imma go with 808's cuz when i first listened to it .. it was sumthin totally diff. for my ears nd opened my eyes to many other music genres.

J Cole can rap there’s no doubt about that. But the reason people hold 808 higher than FHD is because 808 is more than just rapping. As a hip hop artist myself i can easily steal J Cole’s flow and rap about relatable topics and put it over a looped sample, that’s easy, but one thing i wish i could do that i just can’t is come up with the sounds and patterns that are in Kanye’s mind. J. Cole rapped, Kanye made music that instantly set a mood. The Chords, the drum patterns, the vocal work, his words and story telling was just a bonus. It’s easy to use your words to set a mood, just say some sad shit to make people sad. But it’s really difficult to create SOUNDS that can just make you sit and think and Kanye makes that shit look easy.

TheRelentlessKnight you're comparing a production heavy album vs. a lyrically heavy album. 808s production was influential and never done before. 2014 FHD had a predecessor that was more lyrically dense, GKMC.
@benniboy01566 жыл бұрын
But 808’s wasn’t original, heavily influenced but Kid Cudi, pick either Man on the Moon’s, Andre 3000 or several other artists, now while J Coles was also influenced, it had better story telling and harder drops/a great variety of it, I respect your opinion, both great albums in the spectrum. But college dropout and champion would beat Coles for sure. I think Cole wins this one
