I prefer the black heads! They look so striking in contrast to the rest of their colouring, especially against the blue! I have a BH PB BB and he is gorgeous! Now I have had gouldians off and on for twenty years! It is a love hate relationship! My best birds were Yellow backs, best parents, no tossing and the most beautiful double yellow males you have ever seen! Again they drive me crazy with their tossing and squabbling. In my 45 years of breeding canaries and finches, I have to say they are the most challenging!

Great little video mate. Nice little challenge there. I have always found the OH/YH to be the toughest colour across the board.

Interesting to hear. Thanks for sharing. It's hard to know how much comes down to each individual bird instead of colour, regardless I found the YH to be better in some areas but not enough to win😊

Hi Paul I just read your articles about finches diet and so enlighted, just purchased a society finches recently and they go into breeding mode immediately. I'm not a breeder and have no intention to sell the offsprings so your extensive information is really helping me. I was just about to buy ryegrass & orchard grass seed but read about their toxicity, wonfering if barnyard grass seed is good for substitute?

@lilsangarden we call orchid grass cocksfoot in the UK. If its the same as where you are then it is fine to feed to birds. We feed ryegrass also, it is not a problem. Barnyard I don't know...we don't get that here, sorry
