The fact that I could hardly hear a difference when you played them back to back is a testament to your sound engineer. Kudos on making all these kits shine.

Yes good normally except during a drum kit comparison when you’re trying to hear different nuances of each kit.

This is supposedly a shell pack demo but we hear more of the snares (that aren't included with these kits) than the toms. Particularly with the Reserve and Complete drums, we barely hear the toms at all.

The multiple mentioning of Jeff Porcaro implies his sound has anything to do with Pearl, I think he sounded great on whatever drums he played

Glad Pearl masters ditched the thick 7.5mm shell. These all sounded awesome. Good to see the triple flanged hoops. I never could dial in the die cast hoops, they choked out the head leaving a very small sweet spot. Otherwise love the hardware.

Pics of the Kingdom Of Desire shows Jeff playing his Gretsch w/gold hardware - if I remember correctly. It's widely known Jeff often played Gretsch in the studio while endorsing Pearl.

That maple reserve sounds dark and punchy, really digging it, or the maple gum has a little higher pitch with punch 👍🖤

In 2024 when you go onto their website the only master drums listed are the Masters Maple, Masters Pure and Masters Maple/Gum. Reserve and Complete are nowhere to be seen. Really confusing! When you are selling a 4 piece drum kit for over $4k, confusing your potential customers is not the best business model.

Not a slag off, but Porcaro preferred Gretsch even though he endorsed Pearl. Everyone makes good stuff these days.

But when he played Pearl(ex: Kingdom of Desire and more), he played MLX. He also played some BLX. He played all the high end kits like Gretsch(his Carpatian elm kit on a lot of sessions), Ludwig(Black Panther on Silk Degrees and more), Yamaha(Toto IV). He played a lot of different drums.
@markomarkovic5729
@markomarkovic5729 Жыл бұрын
@@erikondrums Porcaro played MLX live. All the great drummers seem to have recorded great albums using Gretsch drums combined with coated Ambassadors. Then there's the legendary Yamaha RC, before that the Ludwig popularized by Ringo Starr, while most metal and punk drummers in the 80s played Tama. That's why vintage Gretsch, Ludwig, Recording Customs are very expensive today, some vintage Artstar/Artstar II too. On the other hand, the old Pearl MLX and BLX (I'd say both the old DLX and the early Sessions) sound great too, but they can be bought very cheaply. I would also add a vintage Premier, great drums.

@@markomarkovic5729 Porcaro played MLX and BLX live when he played Pearl. The last tour he played shells that Bill Detamore prepared, with Pearl hardware. The old DLX and stuff like that are really good drums for the price. I can tell we both are pretty nerdy about this stuff.

It's more than possible that Jeff played Gretsch on Kingsom. It's probable. That being said, I'm here because I'm looking to make a move, and aside from Yamaha, Pearl are some best drums I've ever handled when I worked in retail, but they always sounded great.

This is a shame. There is WAY too much compression on this, with what also sounds like some high-end pushed up (especially on the kit). When you do that, it makes everything sound the same. Great video, but you undermined it with all the processing.

@@NK-ov6kd ….for what it’s worth, every drummer who’s ever recorded their drums has done that at some point. And, in some cases it can make it sound much better (especially in a mix). But, in a demo setting it can overwhelm the natural sound of the kit. Still sounds great, you just get to hear the nuances that make this kit what it is. It’s all in respectful feedback. 👍

Cross laminating is a drum advertising gimmick.. all wood products made of plies like drums, chairs, tables, boats have to be cross laminated to hold shape. It’s just the way multiple wood ply products are made, it’s not a special drum making thing at all.

Consider text boxes and graphics/titles instead of voice over. Would be far more effective when demoing drums.
