I make my own baluns and ununs using type 43 cores. They work great on the bands I operate - 80 through 15 meters HF. I use mostly 240 size toroids at 100 watts. Anything smaller can overheat. My SWRs are much lower than shown in these tests.

I tried the 140 -43 and in this antenna they weren't as good overall. This is not a resonant antenna on other antennas we do use the 43 mix with good results.

Thank you Chuck for the testing. I purchased one of the yesterday. I think I have all of the CaHR kits here or on order. I like kits, and I like kits I can use right away. Thank you for all the work you do and the rest of the group as well. 73, Michael - KN4VA

Hey thanks Michael, I love testing but this one was a lot and I went out a second time to test the 43 toroid and it got dark pretty fast.

The real world matters! The 43 would have been better for inventory, but making contacts is more important!

I can't say it enough--I appreciate all the testing you have done on this and can't wait to try it out.

Great video Chuck. Seems you guys have this one dialed in. I am curious if it tunes on 30 meters? As CW / digital ops will use 30m too for POTA. Thanks for your dedication.

This is all way outside of my knowledge. Question: what is the clicking noise when tuning? What is the tuning doing?
@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures7 ай бұрын
The relays in the radio for the tuner.
@dadlavinder5 ай бұрын
The tuning is switching thousands of combinations of inductance and capacitance with hopes of matching the antenna to the desired 50 Ω load. Generally been my experience the longer the tuner has to work to find a match is indicating the antenna is really OFF match for the desired frequency. I agree out in a field setting what matters is “will it tune” but in a home setting with more permanent antenna installations if the tuner has to work that hard you need to better prune your antenna as you are loosing a lot of efficiency by expecting the tuner to do all the work. Always remember maximum energy transfer off the antenna wire is the end goal

I know this is an older video, but have you tried the green on a 9:1 or 49:1?

Nice testing Chuck ... tnx for the video Sir! Is the new antenna code named "the green meany"? 😉 73 - KF6IF
