@Yaroslava-g4n11 ай бұрын
3 days on Koh Phangan is definitely not enough. There are so many beautiful places, beaches, bars, hiking spots and viewpoints - you have to stay at least a week there. Hands down, it's one of the best and the most beautiful island in Thailand

Hi guys, I've just come across this - it's a fantastic guide to the islands. And I love the concept you have of travelling part time - I'll watch some more of your videos to see how you're managing that because in a couple of years I'd like to do something similar. My own experiences of the island as a solo traveller were slightly different - I'm in my mid thirties, like my home comforts and I'm not a really big adventurous type. Love going for a nice meal and a drink or two, but not a partier. Chill on a beach or wander around towns rather than hike mountains, etc. That's essentially the context for my experience beginning March 2022 for a month. I was in Samui and Phangan only (Koh Tao is definitely in the next trip). I found Samui a little depressing overall due to all the shuttered and derelict buildings post-Covid. I also found it a little more difficult as a solo traveller to meet people there to hang out, but there are some great beaches, scenery and ease of access to a lot of places. I wasn't very comfortable hiring a scooter there as I thought the roads were a bit busy (of course this is compared to the other islands rather than the likes of Bangkok :p) Phangan, on the other hand, has completely transformed my perceptions of chilled trips. You pointed out really well how the vibe is there - definitely alternative, but with that comes so many options in terms of food, activities etc. And for me the amazing thing was how it seemed to have staved off commercialism while still having super high comfort levels. Great hotels, good services in towns etc. I felt comfortable there hiring a scooter and found it really easy to drive most of the western side of the island (I'm terrified of the things as I crashed one in Malaysia on a hilly island - Tioman - a few years back). My whole experience on Phangan completely reset me - I was burning out at work, and I just got a huge perspective change when I spent the 3 weeks there in March. I also found it really easy to meet other travellers, many who simply decide to stay there. Yes, there are hippies, but there are also so many people living there remote working in things such as consulting, teaching languages etc. I did a 5 day retreat - most of it wasn't for me, but I did find one of the activities to be excellent for general anxiety reduction from my hectic lifestyle, so I stuck with that. Since March, I've been back to Thailand twice - in summer I went to Phangan and just spent most of the time there except travelling with a friend to Cambodia and Singapore for a few days. I stayed in SriThanu, and I've already booked to go back there for Christmas. I'll do 5 days between Christmas + New Year on Koh Tao after watching this video. It looks amazing, particularly the more remote beaches. Anyway, just wanted to flesh out a bit of the Phangan part as people tend to mostly know it for the Full Moon parties and it has so much more to offer, and this is the best video I've seen starting to dig a little beneath the surface in Phangan. Thanks a lot, and enjoy the travelling and making the most of the period before your kid goes to school! It was a pleasure to watch this :)

Thanks so much for this insight. I’m wanting to spend 4 days on one of these islands and I’ve been quite drawn to Koh Phangang. But I’m (a young) 50 and was worried I’d be old for it? You describe my likes exactly. Don’t want to be too hectic but can walk for ages. But want to chill and experience the vibe of a place.

You are right Koh Samui is the easiest island, Koh Tao is the prettiest island, but Ko Pha Ngan is my favorite out of the three. I live in Chiang Mai so we go down to the islands occasionally. It is in between the others. Down south you have the huge parties but the farther you go north and around the island there are some really beautiful places. I just like the vibe there. It can get a little rugged, which I like. The next time you are in Thailand try to visit Koh Chang. It is a very nice island on the other side.

Great Vid chaps, must be good to be out of Blighty! I maybe slightly biased but having lived on Samui for 6 and now KP for 7 years and after welcoming 1000s of tourists to our hotel (5 mins from Secret Beach) so going by tourist experiences too, by far the best holiday island is Koh Phangan. For the endless activities, well being/yoga etc places to visit, the many parties of all sizes, you hardly know the Full Moon happens in most places other than Haad Rin so don't be fooled into thinking its dominated by this monthly event. Hollystone, Eden, Oxa Beach, Baan Sabai, Lost Paradise are just a few to mention! With so many activities you cant see all KP has to offer in one week let alone a couple of days so allow time to take in all the amazing beaches, waterfalls, markets and events and time to relax! I'm disappointed you didn't get to go to Rasta Home! Koh Samui is almost bustling city life with every major supermarket and chain restaurant and some areas such as Chaweng will never recover as before. I lived in Fishermans Village before and that does seem to be recovering more quickly. At least KP doesn't have a McDonalds. Koh Tao is so small you can walk around in a day and for snorkelling/diving the boats all visit the same locations leaving from KP or Koh Tao anyway, your more likely to find overcrowding on Koh Tao at peak times. The best snorkeling possibly in Thailand can be found with a trip to the Anthong Islands. The food available on KT is no match for KP. The worst thing any tourist coming can do with limited time is to try and see them all, jump from island to island and spend just a couple of days on each, you wont see more you will see less!!! Nothing other than another hotel/bungalow, taxis, ferries and waiting around. The multiple island hoppers we welcome often look exhausted! Getting taxis to and from piers, waiting for busy ferries and doing it all over again is getting more expensive and more stressful especially with kids or large bags, you're better off staying on the beach, you loose a whole day of your holiday every time you travel, its not always fun. Oh and don't pre-book everything online, ferries and transfers can easily be booked by any hotel or travel agent (for the same price as online and often with deals on transfers to save on taxi fares) on the day or buy tickets at the pier, you know if its definitely running, keep flexible and accommodation is always cheap and easy to find so don't book all your hotels before you leave, you might change plans and that very often occurs! See you all soon!

Alexarna, were you there during the murders? Koh Tao is known for diving, and mysterious tourist deaths. One of them was a double homicide that took place close to where they filmed on Sairee Beach. Samui and Koh Pangan are a much safer option, because they aren't run by rich families and crooked police.

There are some poisonous / toxic sea creatures, even when you dive in paradise. If they are very beautiful or very ugly, or don't move as you get closer, don't touch them. Some snails with shells have a toxic tail that sting from behind if you get too close. It hurst a lot, and may even be dangerous. But nothing happens if you don't touch anything. I’m confused, you said koh Tao has nothing on koh phangan then later in the video you said koh Tao was your favourite place ?

Thank you very much ☺️ Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes from now you don't have to wear masks, thank god! We love these islands 🖤
nice video but one thing you said completely wrong. there are things in the water that can harm you a lot even cause your death. Box Jellyfish every year about 2-3 months are really dangerous and cause several deaths every year on samui, phangan and tao.

@@parttimetravellingfamily mostly between sep-early december you really have to watch out. dont go into the water at night time, don't go into the water at several beaches at all, only swim in safe areas with nets around cos they come close to the beaches and its hard to see them plus the tentacles that are sometimes up to 3m long are nasty.

...and don't start arguments with the locals or you could be one of the next missing or dead tourists that have given Koh Tao the nickname Death Island all over the world.

what do you think about the safety of Koh Tao? we are planning to go to koh phangan and koh tao but honetly im bit nervous after reading about the murders on koh tao
@parttimetravellingfamily2 жыл бұрын
Well!!… this is a difficult one. I really went down the rabbit whole about the murders and covers ups etc. but only realised when we had arrived on the island. I had been to the island 5 years earlier and had no idea… and it was my favourite place in Thailand. The island is run by a few families.. that have some entitled sons. It looks like with the social and global media documenting every move everyone makes… they have either been told to leave the island or behave themselves. I went to the fishbowl every evening until late because we were actually staying at Bans and didn’t have a problem or see any problems the time I was there. Everyone very friendly and helpful. As long as you are not causing problems I think it is absolutely safe. You can get problems anywhere in the world you go but I don’t think you need to worry about visiting the island. Just be sensible.. not walking home drunk at 3am on your own etc. but that would be the same anywhere. In short… I would say go to Koh Tao. Enjoy yourself.. but wouldn’t recommend partying on your own until early hours. 🖤🖤

Wrong, when you say there is nothing in the ocean there that can hurt you. How about the jelly fish...especially Box jellyfish...can kill you. Did you ever get stung by one??? It hurts like hell. Hopefully they don't have a lot of that there, but did you check???
@pippilangstrumpf2075 Жыл бұрын
Just, there are things in the water Wich can hurt you. Even kill you. Not the sharks..but tiny things like jellyfish. People don't forget about this. After rain comes jellyfish, and take care that you not cut yourself on a coral. :-)
@VividAbominations Жыл бұрын
Sea Kraits, Cone Snails, and Stone Fish though rare, can kill a swimmer or diver relatively fast. Coral abrasions and cuts on the body almost always end in a nasty infection too, and some have ended with amputations. Watch where you walk or swim.
