Which Lexus GX 550 is Right for YOU?! // 2024 Lexus GX 550 Luxury PREVIEW

The brand new Lexus GX 550 is one of the most hotly anticipated new luxury SUVs to hit the market in quite some time. Interestingly, the 2024 Lexus GX 550 comes in two distinct flavors: overtrail and luxury. If you get the Lexus GX 550 in Overtrail+ , you literally get the most off-road ready Lexus on sale today, but if you spec the GX 550 in Luxury+, you get options like massaging seats, a dynamic sky roof, and enormous 22 inch wheels. The best part is that the new Lexus GX 550 is so good looking, most people won't mind either way. The GX 550 is able to do a convincing impression of a luxury SUV, even if it's one where the original reason for existing is a bit confused. Megan obviously prefers the GX 550 in Overtrail trim, which gives it a much better (more purposeful?) overall look in our opinion, but many buyers who are more honest with themselves about how they plan to use their Lexus GX 550 SUVs will probably prefer the luxurious trappings of the GX 550 Luxury trim. At the end of the day, most people who buy a Lexus GX 550 will probably stay on the pavement more than off of it. One important distinction between the two versions of the Lexus GX 550: the Overtrain trim doesn't come with the nearly useless third row while the luxury trim does. For those wishing to maximize interior room, the GX 550 Overtrain might actually be the better option.

I have my money set of the overtrail+. Even though the most off road I would do is parking my car in a carnival parking lot, it just suits me better.

I've decided on the Overtrail +. I want the truck like feel even if it will mostly be used on normal roads most it's life. It still has luxury features and don't need a 3rd seat or that long glass roof. A normal sunroof is fine by me.

Overtrail+ is the one to get. Especially with the recent price leak. Very good value overall. Hopefully the hybrid powertain is released in the next year or two. As much as folks say, “People who buy this don’t care.” You still need to cater to the people who do. Lost sale opportunities to those folks if they don’t consider. Side note: You could recline the second row seat for more comfort.

My choice would be the Premium+ to start. After a few years, I will buy a after market off-road tire and wheel set to replace the standard wheels on the car. Even though the Overtrail has more off road capability but I feel I won't end up using most of it. The premium+ for me feels like a good compromise with on road and off road goodies!

Good choice, but unless you absolutely need it I’d skip that third row. Mostly useless and eats into cargo space (which is quite good without it).

Wish you could option a luxury without 3rd row. That’s a miss IMO. We have an overtrail+ on our list as a result. We have no need for the 3rd row!

Currently, as far as I know you can't get a Lexus GX 550 in Luxury trim without the third row. I agree that it seems a bit like a miss, BUT... you can option the GX 550 Overtrail with a LOT of the options minus the appearance stuff that would make the GX 550 less off-road worthy. (I think the dynamic sky roof is the exception.) For us, a loaded Overtrail+ would be perfect. Hopefully it will be a possibility in the future.

I put a deposit in on a luxury+ and im just planning in folding the seats down. They lay pretty flat. Overtrail looks better but I'll be spending my time inside of it.

You said at 5:25 that the luxury plus has a rear locker and multi terrain select like the overtrail. I believe this is wrong. I've read the luxury and premium models only have the center locker and don't have MTS or eKDSS...

I’ll check but you’re probably right. I might have been assuming it would be similar to the Land Cruiser where some of the off-road kit is still standard on the lowest trim. Good point 👍🏻

I don't like 22" wheels. I don't like the trend for cars and trucks going that way. Don't like the aesthetics, don't like the lack of cushion from road bumps. I bet the massaging seats aren't as plush and comfortable when not activated. Bunch of machinery inside.

Why so expensive huge wheels. Offroad machines should be economical throw aways not going to a private ranch to hunt… bet that’s the reason to buy it. Will look out of place at most trailheads

But the Sequoia is a larger vehicle, so you don't feel the pinch as much if you're a passenger since the second row is much roomier than it is in the GX. The GX 550 Overtrail is kind of a happy medium: no pointless third row and decent second row space with equal off road ability and as good or better looks.

lol totally different vehicles… suburban won’t go off-road. If you want a large family mover that it’s fit and finish is subpar then get the Chevy… I have a GMC. not even close to build qualify feels super super cheap compared to Lexus vehicles i have owned.
