The glow forge is $1200 plus the $400 filter if you get it. Super interested in the glow forge for sure but the not cutting clear acrylic kind of kills what I want it for

I understand that there's a lot of people out there that had never been in the laser business before. I've been in the laser business for over 35 years! The reason why glowforge chose that cover wasn't because it was a color choice it's because of the spectrum of a diode. The laser will damage your eyes so it's a safety issue and safety first. This is not a CO2 laser. The reason people are complaining the fact that it cannot cut clear acrylic one it's a diode laser, the laser will reflect back off the acrylic unless it has a blue cast to it and that's an expensive process that pretty much only 3M has. You can get clear cast acrylic with a blue cast to it which is a blue tinge for safety through 3M. These are not printers you have to use it in a safe environment it cannot be left alone you have got to watch it like a hawk or something could catch fire and your machine toast your house toast get my drift! Lasers used to have a perceived value and now with glowforge in the market it has cheapened the value of a laser. My first single head 75 watt CO2 was around $145,000. Iit was an optically scanned table which means whatever you put in front of it 1:1 it put on the substrate whatever that meant and whatever you had on the table whether it be a gunstock a piece of wood. We used it in our plaque shop all our trophies in Santa Ana California came out of that and it was a laser room that was the size of a 2-car garage! The table was 20 ft long and moved side to side and had two laser operators. Then epilogue comes along thinking they could reinvent the wheel when all they do is sell you broke equipment! Yes I'm on a first-name basis with Mike Dean let me go ten rounds with him in a boxing ring or a cage fight! He sold us a worthless trash machine for $40,000 and it was a 25-watt that piece of junk was broken from the get-go we paid them to come out from Colorado for 6 months. I hope xtool or even glowforge puts them out of business! So safety first!

the no cutting clear acrylic turns me off from the aura. So I think I'm waiting until I can afford a large Glowforge. I'm excited you're coming to creative fabrica!

Orange is because of the laser light is blue and it is safe for the eyes…I think….

The Aura is a diode laser. There are soooo many choices that are at a lower price point with more power in the laser world. There are even other desk top models that work very similarly at or around the same price point. Xtool makes a couple models that are very similar. Diode lasers use a blue laser and orange is the color that filters out the harmful rays. So I am pretty sure that is why the Aura has that orange color. I would shop around b4 just getting the Aura and find the one that gives the most bang for the buck.

Super curious on the venture. I do mostly vinyl so I’m not sure if it’s work it for me now but I’m excited to see what melissa does with it. The aura is cute and looks fun but im glad Jess mentioned that there are better machines out there if you are looking to go the business route.

I got a Venture. I have a maker and a 3. I have big people in my family so the bigger iron on is an issue. Plus I like making canvases and doormats which are tedious with the smaller machines. (Plus my sister can use it for her side hustle.) Meh with the Glowforge. I was excited until i found out it was a 6 watt diode. But the big brother issue with their software... You can get a great powerful diode and an enclosure for less than this and use Lightburn.

I’m not sure but believe the color is related to being able to watch the laser work without wearing safety glasses. If you research you will find that color reduces eye strain from the laser. Typically you will find orange or green when it comes to laser eye protection. Even glasses are made from the green or orange color. If a person is buying a laser machine I would hope they would research colors associated with the best eye protection.

There are other options for larger plotters you know. Siser make the Romeo. Not stuck with Cricut software or products. Freedom.

It can’t cut clear because it is a diode laser, which is cheaper laser technology for the crafting world. Typically a CO2 is needed to cut clear acrylic. It has to do with the different reflections in the different types of lasers.

You can actually cut with acrylic with a diode laser. There are tricks including airbrushing prior to cutting. Would I do it with a Glowforge? Nope. I have an xtool and it makes more sense to just upgrade mine to a 20 w laser. Really, xtool is the only reason why Glowforge came out with this. The xtool community is pretty rad also. I do suggest really looking at lots of different videos on lasers on KZbin. For this price? A 6 w diode is definitely not worth 1100 bucks plus, especially when you need a subscription and can use lightburn for others.

watched another influencers video, just for laughs, no air assist, no ability to do taller items, and still online software. i've looked all over their site, no mention of what the Aura's laser power is but i suspect its no more than 10 watt laser. i still say the XTool M1 is a better bargain, im all in on mine with air assist, riser, rotary tool for 1300 (fathers day sale). but hey Glowforge will get unaware customers who just love a name, yes brands sell.
