Hi! Thanks again for watching our video and checking out the comment sections. We just wanted to let you know that the Malaysia visa and requirements can change overnight. For instance, the entry requirements for the MM2H used to be much lower but the government decided to increase it to attract different types of applicants. It is said that it can change again at the end of 2023. So always check the current requirements when starting your visa process. Feel free to comment on our video and perhaps you would like to share your ideas or experiences about obtaining a visa for Malaysia. We are always happy to receive comments. The "visa run" or "border run" is officially considered as an abuse of the social visit pass. Immigration officers can see your entire entry history into Malaysia when you hand over your passport. If their records show that you are not a true visitor but instead are actually living in Malaysia on the social visit pass you may be denied entry. In the past the visa run was a popular workaround for expensive or restrictive visa requirements but now many countries in SE Asia are noting the abuse and denying or limiting entry.

Yes, it isn't the official way actually live longterm in Malaysia. But it can be a great option if you are planning to stay in Malaysia for just 6 months. In the end we highly suggest going for the correct visa. Sometimes it is a necessity especially if you have kids that need to go to school in Malaysia. Thank you for taking the time to comment! It is in no way an abuse. If it were officially considered an abuse there would be a law made against it but there is none. And there is a reason there is no law against it. No matter how often you return on a visa exemption, no immigration official can legitimately deny you entry to the country without evidence of wrongdoing. They can hassle you or intimidate you and sometimes this happens, either for political reasons or because they want a bribe. But the chances of them actually deporting you with no evidence of illegal activity are pretty much nil. What they may do is ask if you are working there. If they are really suspicious they may also ask for proof of finances to support yourself. But they are mainly concerned about this with migrants from other Asian countries. If you are a westerner it is much less likely they will suspect you of working illegally, and anyone who has proof of finances has nothing to worry about. The only actual reason they sometimes try to intimidate people into getting long term visa is because those visas have very steep fnancial requirements and make the government a lot more money - the government makes INSANE amounts of money off every longterm visa applicant.

Thank you for details others have not made as clear - But I am surprised you did not go into more details about the SMM2H program as I believe it has less restrictive financial requirements but the question remains with the SMM2H can a person then also reside in (west peninsula) or either part of Malaysia having the SMM2H visa ?

Hi, thank you for your comment and we are happy to hear that we have provided useful information for you. You are absolutely right. We received a great comment from an other viewer who stated that it might be useful to look more closely to the SMM2H. Because once you receive the SMM2H you only have to be 30 days a year in Sarawak or Sabh. It seems that there are many foreigners who go for the SMM2H since the financial requirements are less then the MM2H program and reside on the west peninsula most of the year. Hope we answered your question. Matt and Monico

(after renewal) Would that time spent using that visa go towards any other options to stay longer after the 2 years? Hi, thank you for watching our video and leaving a comment. It's a very good question. From the information we have found so far, you can only renew it once: so 12 months followed by another 12 months. Perhaps you need to leave the country and restart the whole process again once the 2 years are over. But we read that many countries only allow max 2 years, so this may also be the case for Malaysia. At the end it is a digital 'nomad' visa, so they don't expect you to stay very long. Sorry we couldn't give you a clear and certain answer. It remains unclear. Cheers, Matt and Monico

Hi Matt and Monico. Im malaysian(living in switzerland for the past 40 years), and my wife(swiss) would like to stay about 180 days a year(2 entries per year= 90 days per entry) in the coming future. Obviously i do not have a problem, but what about my wife? We plan to travel to and fro, thats why the 180 days a year. Is it doable that she can enter multiple times a year, and every entry allows her to stay 90 days? We know that we can apply for the "spouse visa" but we thought we can avoid that since we will be travelling around too. Thanks in advance

Hi, thank you for commenting. Theoretically, you should be able to do so. I can imagine that an immigration officer at one point will check the pages of your wife's passport and question why you have exited and entered Malaysia so many times. But I can imagine that your story is acceptable since you are Malaysian visiting your country while living (resident) in Switzerland. You can always ask the Malaysian Embassy what they think but from our experience when living in Indonesia, we did visa runs multiple times and spent a whole year there on a visa similar to the 90-day Malaysian entry visa. Sorry, that we can not give you a 100% go-ahead answer as we are not visa experts. Enjoy your travels back to Malaysia together with your wife! Matt and Monico

Hi, thank you for you question. We are always a bit unsure when answering these question, because we are not experts of course. But from what we have found is that expats in Malaysia will be paying taxes from foreign sourced income received in Malaysia (kpmg.com/my/en/home/media/press-releases/2021/11/no-more-exemption-on-foreign-sourced-income-remitted-to-malaysia.html#:~:text=As%20announced%20during%20the%20tabling,comply%20with%20global%20tax%20standards.) This is not the case for you, so we would expect that you will not pay tax. Perhaps you will need to fill out forms to clarify you income situation. As for renewal after 10 years. We don't think you have to leave Malaysia. You will be able to renew but you will not get a permanent residency. We hope we have been able to help you a bit! Cheers Matt and Monico

@makethemove101

Hi thank you for your very good question. So far we have only heard about renewing it once. So you can stay a total of 2 years. But why wouldn't you be able to extend it once again after 2 years? If you meet the requirements then you would think that is possible. Someone recommended going for a MM2H or SMM2H, but these long stay visas have different requirements. But like all visa requirements, things can change within a short period of time and perhaps the Second Home Program does sound attractive by that time. @@makethemove101highly unlikely they would deny entry to anyone without evidence of wrongdoing. Technically denying someone entry is deportation. It's a big deal. And the official can't do it on whim, he has to initiate a formal process. He can hassle you or try to intimidate you but deportation is another matter. If they think you are working there illegally they may ask for some kind of proof of finances. But that's the worst I can imagine happening. And they aren't likely to suspect westerners of working in Malaysia illegally. It is other Asian countries that are under scrutiny.

All your info in regards to the MM2H visa program are incorrect ! Even when you posted this video six months ago ! Introducing the three-tiered program The MM2H program will be divided into three tiers. Silver; Gold; and Platinum. Each tier differs from the other in its fixed deposit requirements as well as the length of the visa duration. Under the silver tier, participants must deposit a minimum of 500,000 ringgit (US$105,744) and can only purchase real estate worth a minimum of 750,000 ringgit (US$158,609). Participants will then be eligible for a renewable five-year visa. Gold tier participants must deposit a minimum of 2 million ringgit (US$422,632) and can only purchase real estate worth a minimum of 750,000 ringgit (US$158,609). Participants will then be eligible for a 15-year renewable visa. Finally, platinum-tier participants must pay a minimum deposit of 5 million ringgit (US$1 million) and can only purchase property worth 1.5 million ringgit (US$316,980). Participants will then be eligible for permanent residency, a status that no residency program currently offers in Malaysia. Previously, the program required all participants to deposit a minimum of 1 million ringgit (US$211,000). Regardless of the tier, applicants have the right to withdraw half of their deposit to buy real estate and pay for medical expenses, domestic travel, or education. Other perks offered in the MM2H program The minimum age of eligible applicants has been lowered to 30 from 35. Further, parents-in-law can now be included as dependents if they are over the age of 60. The maximum age of the children of the main applicant has been raised to 34 from 21, however, the child must unmarried and not be in employment in Malaysia. Moreover, under all tiers, the main applicant or their spouse and dependents are only required to spend 60 days a year in Malaysia, down from 90 days before the changes. This is for applicants aged between 30-49 years.

Wow that's an extensive comment. We did an update on MM2H and SMM2H at the beginning of this year. We believe that at that time the info was accurate. Not sure if there have been new updates again kzbin.info/www/bejne/bamqfKx9mtWVatU Have a lovely day, Matt and Monico

One can be forced to emigrate. I would not voluntarily emigrate to a country where I could not obtain permanent residency in a short time after presenting my credentials. To have the concern about having to leave after committing to another country is oppressive. Maylaysia, according to what I read, will grant only temporary residency unless one has over a million US dollars to deposit in a Maylasian bank. I find that unacceptable. Any country has the opportunity to review an immigrant's acceptability before granting even one a one day visa. If there is no fraud in the entry application and the entry terms are met, then it is accepted and the review is completed for a lifetime.

We fully understand what you mean but in the end that is the world of visa’s and immigration. Other countries also have requirements that are almost impossible to meet. Even the Dutch will send people ‘home’ even if they have lived and worked here and their children are born here. It’s complicated. But in the case of Malaysia, if you have money then you are welcome

Hi Thanks for watching our video and commenting. You are right, this video is from 7 months ago. There have been many changes ever since, especially with the MM2H. In a pinned comment we suggested always checking for updates. As for this video, it does show you the different visa options. These still exist however the requirements can change. Have a lovely day! Matt and Monico

Hi, thanks for commenting. We have no idea how they select these countries, probably because of economic reasons and their diplomatic relations with specific countries. Sometimes the same rules apply to Malaysia for that specific country too....Cheers! Matt and Monico
