Out of all of the games Mario kart Wii is the only game that is still being updated to this day. GCTP is a mod by Mr. Bean which is completely free to put on a modded or unmodded wii. You may say that a kid would not make this game accessible to that many people but if you want to play Mario kart Wii today you will need to get CTGP. On top of adding online matches with 100s of people from around the world they also add 1000s of new custom tracks and more and more are being added on a monthly bases. And you can do online mode for custom tracks as well. Mr. Bean also added new game modes like countdown and item rain. Also in responses to the video Mario kart Wii has the tightest controls out of any Mario kart game. Many people play with a GameCube controller or classic controller but even with Wiimote and nunchuck you can still get extremely precise controls. And with combinations like Finley Kong with the flame runner you can get pixel tight movements leading to some pretty broken stuff. Speedrunning this game is incredible because of how far people can push this game to do incredible frame perfect cuts. Yes the graphic looks nasty but the sheer variety added through custom tracks and the incredible controls are unlike any other Mario kart game.

I was 6 when Mario Kart 64 came out, so I obviously know a lot of people who cling to that game, claiming it's still the best. But let's be real. Only the Battle Mode holds up. The slow pacing of 64's Battle Mode creates an intensity that later games don't have, and being a bomb to get revenge on whoever defeated you is still rad.

*HEY.* *YEAH I KNOW MARIO KART WII HAS A MOD SO YOU CAN STILL PLAY ONLINE.* *BUT GUESS WHAT.* *That doesn't matter here because I'm talking about the games themselves and how they are to the general public and the every day consumer, or as you guys call them, "casuals".* The fact that someone would have to mod their Wii and game to get online back takes time and is not something the general public wants to deal with. Heck, the fact that it's modded shows exactly why it's aged poorly. If you've gotta mod it to prove the point that "it has online", AND to show it's still interesting, not good. At the end of the day, regardless of what you can do with Mario Kart Wii now, its online is inherently dead. And I'll bet you anything Nintendo shuts down CTGP in the next few years. Not to mention I've heard numerous people say that somehow better sales makes a game age better...? N-no? That's not how that works. Mario Kart Wii outselling Double Dash ten times over does not make it a better-aged game. I rest my case, Double Dash is the best aging game in the franchise. Mario Kart Wii is obsolete. Change my mind. *Also, I very clearly stated at the beginning of the video that I wasn't focusing on the handheld games, so Idk why everyone's complaining I didn't talk about MKDS. I'd argue that the gameplay in Wii is much better than in Double Dash, and the controller argument doesn't really hold up either, because you can use a GameCube controller in Wii. As for CTGP, that I have no problem being excluded from the overall argument, although once added in it makes Wii far better than DD. I mean, over 200 new tracks, new game modes, custom texture packs, nothing can compete with that.

Wii has Mario Kart Clans, Double Dash doesn't. Probably doesn't make the game better in fact I prefer Double Dash but it's a load of fun when a group of peeps play online screaming when we all get a tc.

@Ice Coffin, that's definitely understandable, and I don't disagree with your point. I'm just speaking from the standpoint of a general consumer; that kinda stuff they don't care about. And the fact of the matter is that Double Dash's "online" was hardly advertised, it was just a thing that you could do. It was so out there that no one bothered and a lot of people didn't even know it existed. MKWii's online mode on the other hand was a massive part of the game, so when that's dead and you have to spend potentially an hour or more setting it all up to play online (again, from the standpoint of a general consumer who doesn't know all this stuff), it's a very obvious sign of the age and how obsolete it's become. Basically, why play Mario Kart Wii when you could play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? Double Dash and even MK64 to an extent have stuff going for them on their own, but Mario Kart Wii just feels like an outdated game unless you're modding it, kind of like Skyrim, which is another game I feel has aged poorly (and I love Skyrim too, so that's not me hating on it; it just hasn't aged very well I don't think). When you've gotta mod it to make it interesting again... well, I'm talking in circles now. Like you said, you're coming from more of a community standpoint. I'm coming from the standpoint of just focusing on the core game.

I like pretty much everything about Wii Better than Double Dash except Graphics. This may be because I suck at Double Dash and cannot unlock the last cup no matter how hard I try. The battle mode, although I've never played much with friends is a load of fun, and I love the Pipe battle map and play it for absolutely no reason other than to run in and out of pipes. Wii has an amazing array of Battle maps, but the battle mode itself is lackluster. Balloon Battle became point based, so every Mario Kart since then does not have a fun balloon battle, and coin runners is fairly boring, although I love it in MK8D and always win. In Future Mario Karts, I hope they keep their current lineup, except allow more features and options, like elimination Balloon Battle, as well as an impressive array of maps for Battle mode, like Wii had. For some reason, I like Wii's soundtrack a lot more than MK8's. Orchestra and Jazz are amazing, but I couldn't help but feel a lot of the music sounded samey. However, with Wii, there is a ton of variety. It's super peppy, and I love the synths. Double Dash also has great music, and songs like Mushroom Bridge and Wario Stadium are still wonderful to this day. I'm hoping the next Mario Kart has a lot of variety, and a great mix of synthesized music and orchestrated music. Wii in my opinion has the best Character lineup out of any Mario Kart. But that may be because MK8 is missing Diddy and Birdo. Funky was also a great addition and showed that we could have really wacky or out there choices in the future... unfortunately, that didn't really happen. If the next Mario Kart brings back everyone from MK8D, and adds on Birdo, Diddy, and Funky, it would already be a better lineup than Wii. Please bring back Diddy, he was my main in Wii. Wii has the best controls for me, but the items and item balancing are pretty dang awful. I've gotten 5 blue shells in 1 race before, and I've lost a race because of an onslaught of items at the very end of a race... on 50cc Grand Prix. However, despite the items, bad kart & item balancing, and the graphics, Wii has some of my favorite original tracks in the series. Luigi Circuit, Toad Factory, Wario's Gold Mine, Koopa Cape, Grumble Volcano, my favorite Rainbow Road, Coconut Mall, etc. Wii is just overall my favorite out of the first 4 console games. MK8 has some great track design, but I still feel like Wii's are better. Wii has the better music, character lineup, and battle maps. But MK8D has the best controls, gameplay, battle modes, and graphics. Overall, MK8D is the best Mario Kart, and I enjoy it more than Wii, but Wii still remains my favorite. I'm super excited to see the way Mario Kart goes in the future... even if just to see the new and updated tracks, and how clean everything will look with new models and graphics... It's been 4 years since the original MK8, and MK8D doesn't really improve on them that much, as it is a port. But I'm sure the next one will.

Mario Kart has always been a delicate balance between luck and skill. MKWii leaned more to the "luck" side more than any other game. If you are more of a casual player, i can see why you would like it.

I actually hate the Luck part of Mario Kart Wii. It's more the music, tracks, and characters that make me like it. MK8D is my favorite, Gameplay-Wise. MKWii's items revolve around Luck too much, and the balancing is awful.

Double dash is just great. Wii got boring after awhile and mk8 looks amazing and the skill ceiling is higher with 200cc... but mk8 items all feel the same. There arent many variation to hit animation nor can you dodge red shells. For example blue shell hitting you is the same as a red shell hitting you in mk8. In double dash you get flung into the air by a blue shell, bananas makes you spin and red shells make you flip over or flip backwards depending on the context. Only thing i enjoy in wii, is the motorcycle wheelies but thats about it. Also wii version has this weird dark yellow effect on the color pallet... and it just looks ugly imo.

i feel like the reason why they stopped making players go flipping in the air when you get hit by blue shell/bob-omb was because, too many people whinged about how long it took them out of the race, n if it was that reason, why?? Mario kart is meant to be unfair n require no skill, its soul purpose is to have fun with the game, n by taking these lil features out, its ruining the game n losing its charm a bit, plus it made you a bit more on edge when you see a blue shell coming for you n not to mention how funny it was to see people get flipped in the air

I think It will age really poorly actually , it doesn't feel like it has unique things that other games in the series don't have , mkwii had wheelie and bikes that actually worked (even though they were op ) , double Dash had unique items and two people in the same kart and so on. Mk8 Deluxe will probably be forgotten when the next one comes out ( unless they had awesome mods )

Great video Garrett! My only gripe with Double Dash!! is the balancing issue, as some characters clearly have unfair advantages with their special items. In the end, I love every Mario Kart for how different they play after all. The way they handle their mechanics and levels create very interesting ways to have fun. Eternally an amazing series! Oh, and DS and Super Circuit are also awesome! SC is a personal favorite.

JesseRoxII Wiimmfi is a custom MARIO Kart Wii Server that restores the online functionality they even have Wiimmfi Competitions through the MARIO Kart Channel google it There are also custom tracks available home brewing your Wii and installing both is just a breeze

There’s a mod for multiplayer in MK Wii. TWD98 has a bunch of videos on it. The game’s still alive today, with people making custom tracks and all that stuff!

For the Handheld MK games: Super Circuit and MKDS are pretty good. In Super Circuit is like a mix of SMK & 64 controls and runs smoothly. MKDS was fun with the 8 player battles and you can dodge the blue shell with just drift boosting.

@@eclipse-754 Sadly i didn't own 7 but i did beat it. I did like 7, there's some tracks that felt bland, and the dumb idea of Waluigi being not playable. One big issue with 7 was that they used the best tracks from MKWii just to use the new mechanic but they felt like downgrades of the original track.
