I run a BBS02 500 watt mid drive with dual 36v 20AHr batteries. It has a maximum wattage rating of 750 watts, but have regularly seen 850 watt display readings. It’s mounted on a 29” dual suspension, 34t Shimano freewheel. I live in the US in an Appalachian Mountain state, so there are many hills. Bike is mostly used on street and rail-trails. It’s fun with dual battery DateX2 combiner setup. Really helps with lessen voltage sag on hills and in headwinds. I ride about 30-40 miles daily. I have to give minimum assistance when climbing most hills in PAS 4. It’s fun. I know I said that. But it really is all I feel the need for at the moment.🙂

I've been putting BBS02's on DH mountain bikes since 2015 to build as trail bikes. I've found 750W to be sufficient. I typically run a 36t "narrow-wide" chain ring w/ 10spd cassette and Shimano clutch derailleur. I definitely recommend Bafang products. Mid-drive is where it's at for bikes with rear suspension. I wouldn't put the weight of a hub motor on a "swingarm" but Bafang hub motors are great too. 👌

I have owned the BBS02 for several years on 2 bikes in the US, and I FIRMLY say the need for more gears is NOT a bad thing. If you manage the power setting and the gearing right then your golden. NO hub motor with same specs will match your range. On one bike I have the 02, a 17.5ah battery, and a mega range 9 speed 11-52t drive train with default 46t (I think) front sproket, and 26" drive wheel. On power setting 2, and 7th speed throttle only I get around 60 miles keeping with the legal limit (for Texas) of a class 2 20mph, and I am NOT a small person at over 200lbs sometimes hauling a single wheel trailer. Pedal assist I can get over 150 with setting one (my preferred cadence) and still keeping the 20mph legal (for Texas) class 2 rating. The other has a 20ah battery 8 speed currently (going to change that in the near future), 24" drive wheel, and a tadpole trike getting about 10 miles better despite the extra weight, and also sometimes with the exact same trailer. Keep in mind I am also disabled and use this for shopping so I ALWAYS have cargo on board for return trips

My advice is to get the smallest motor the 300 Watt motor with the biggest battery. Less wear on a bikes drive train. I commute thirty foor miles a day on a Giant Quick E with a 250 Watt motor. I can cruise along at 41 to 43 kilometres per hour. You drain battery cycles less as well.

My 02 is running on 52 volts, out of the box. My HD also runs on 52 volts but with an aftermarket controller runs 50 amps (more about towing torque than top speed). I don't get bothered because I don't ride it like a goon. If you're not behaving like an idiot the police have more important concerns. My motors have similar cabling.

The 18650 cells are 3,65V each. In a battery, some producers round that number to 3,6V, totalling 48V; others round that number to 3,7V, totalling 52V. But the battery is the same. So, what does mean "Not 52V compatible"?! Thanks

Do Bafang motors really affect the right side crank (chainring side) by leaving it one inch farther once the motor is installed? I saw a review of a welder who fitted the 750w kit, and that's what he said. It was giving him hip pain when riding the bike since the crank on the right side was too far to the right.
@LukeAMcDowell Жыл бұрын
It comes with spacers. Your friend should have used the spacers to align his chainring and avoid the hip pain. My bbshd was ordered specifically for my bottom bracket size and it is centered well with no spacers.
@bjnslc11 ай бұрын
It's the reason so many conversions use Leki chainrings and asymmetric crank arms.
