hi Mark , i think you should use a mid handicap player to hit them to see how all the average and bad shots do, thats the reason way these clubs have been made to help the none pro player , your hitting great shots all the time so its harder for you to see the benefits , i am a mid handicap player and have tried all these clubs, i hit twenty shots with all clubs , i had more bad shots with the mp and a lot of bad shots with the mmc but the hmb was so much easier to hit a great shot , to me there was a big difference ,

Think I’ve watched this 4-5 times now and need to say it’s probably the most useful video that I have seen you do. So many people get hung up immediately on stronger lofts and whatnot, so they never test them to actually see if the lofts are that way for a reason. Could be the first iron series that I can see myself blending all three since they seem to be so seamless between them Great analysis

My 15 year old daughter hc 2 was fitted for MB’s 5-pw at Bearwood Lakes yesterday at one of their Mizuno tour truck events. We had no intentions of auditioning a set of blades but they’re surprisingly forgiving and deserve the ‘nothing feels quite like a...’ tag. Couldn’t bring ourselves to blend the set either, once you’ve dialled up the correct shaft using their 3D shaft optimiser couldn’t bring ourselves to consider either MMC and HMB as long Irons - for reference we currently use a 3 year old set of Nike Vapor Fly irons paired with vokey wedges, which will also be replaced with their T20 range

I spent 90 minutes at the Mizuno Experience Center and the only thing they had were 7 iron heads for all their lines. They first fitted me for a shaft based on release point, swing speed, etc, then I hit ~20 balls with each of their 7 irons for the 919 and MP series. The fitter never suggested blending for me, though he did acknowledge that people will use HMB for the longer irons. I do not need distance though I fight a hook. The fitter suggested either the MP MMC or the 919 Forged.I hit the MP 20 the straightest but 10 yards shorter than the MMCs.

I game a Mizuno 56 degree wedge. Had a 50 degree Mizuno wedge also until very recently. Still, when I am ready for my next set of irons I am leaning toward the Ping i500 or Titleist T300. I understand that some better golfers may blend a more forgiving iron in lower lofted clubs but why would lesser talented golfers blend irons? For instance, what would the MMC offer me that I can't get from the HMB? Personally I really don't care about bigger top lines or how a club sounds. Forgiveness is my best friend.

I have MB 7-P and MMC 4-6 all with AMT White shafts and Plus4 align grips. 1 deg strong on 7i and these blend perfectly in distance, looks and feel. Mizuno did a fantastic job. I had a fitting at Mizuno Melbourne a couple of weeks ago, was the best fitting I've had. I was thinking of going hmb 3-6i then mb 7-pw, but after doing some experiments I ended up going hmb 3-9i then a T20 wedge. I wasn't really gaining anything apart from looks going with the mb in the short irons. The hmb are an incredible club, with from what I'm told a different purpose than a club like the i500 or p790. Those clubs use the hollow construction to give max distance were the hmb use to increase consistency

I was very keen to go with a new set of Titleist T100 and 200, but having seen what Mizuno have done with MP20 I can’t wait to test these . Went in for a fit at a big box when Mizuno came in. Went in skeptical, but was pleasantly surprised on how accurate the shaft optimizer system was in predicting a match personally (Full disclosure, coming from a MP-54 set that was off the rack so mileage may vary). To your point that you preach often, I could FEEL the difference in flex/loading and definitely improved consistency of strike as I was in a different completely different weight. I also like the fact the price does not change much whether you buy a set or single iron with them giving you flexibility. For now, I have grabbed a 5i HMB 2 degrees weak to match the blade lofts. Hoping to transition into a blended set by next season.

I am 100% thinking about doing the MP-20 and HMB blend. 20 PW to 6, and HMB in the 5,4,3 (not generally a hybrid player and like the 3 on the tee for par 4s). I would weaken the 5 HMB to 26, leave the 4 at 22 and strengthen the 3 to 18 degrees in an attempt to keep a decent gap between all clubs.

Thanks for the video. By having to use two 6 irons in your own set clearly demonstrates that the new Titleist products (620 and T series) do not easily integrate or blend. Hence I am probably favouring Mizuno for replacements for my 716CBs.

What difference does the number on the bottom make? Who would even notice or care of you carry two six irons? It's no more unappealing than carrying two different types of irons if you choose to blend irons.
@primafacie64425 жыл бұрын
jporter504 I’m simply agreeing with MC’s own statement of how well Mizuno have afforded a blended option (rather than a bastardised mixture). I agree with you that the manufacturer or number on the bottom is inconsequential, but surely most new iron buyers (if considering a blend) would expect a ‘numerically sequential set’ from the same manufacturer.

I got fitted and hit all 3 models. I personally liked the mmc over the other two. I did not like the feel of the hmb. I feel I'm not good enough to game the blades so the mmc is a good compromise for me. That being said...I believe I am going with the Taylormade p760 in 6-P and the p790 in 4 and 5.

It will unfortunately be time to retire the old faithfuls early next year. I've been play traditionally lofted (honestly probably a little weaker) blades for years mostly with a 2-PW setup but from time to time I would drop the 2 and 3 to experiment with hybrids. Blending the HMB's and the MB's are a possibility that I am very interested in and most likely I would do a 2-4, maybe the 5 as well, with the HMB's and the rest with the MB's. I work retail (not golf) and one of our regulars is a Mizuno Rep and he brought these two by the store just for me to take a look at and I was very impressed. I will hopefully be able to actually hit a few with each soon.

Two critical comments that weren't made - and I just spent 1 hour hitting all these clubs yesterday - and I had my JPX 919 Hot Metal Pro iron there as well as a test: 1) The absolute biggest most noticeable difference in these sets, and including my Hot Metal Pro, is the offset of the new HMB being more than all the rest of the clubs - it was very noticeable and maybe I have more of an offset hate than Dan but I just couldn't do it for that reason alone 2) I hit all the 7 irons with the same shaft as my club, the 120gram S300 Dynamic Gold - and most shockingly, I was very often hitting the MB blade as far as if not further than the other clubs. I started to think I was crazy, but then I began to think why was it happening - and then my brain went to more mass being directly behind the ball in the blade. That said, what wasn't mentioned in this video is forgiveness - and even though I was really purring them yesterday (172-182 with the MB 7 iron blade), I did hit a few not perfectly and you could feel it right away and then the 7 iron was immediately 158 - and from a winner / losers game analysis perspective, my mind started to think that the best club was actually the MMC - because it didn't have the terrible offset of the HMB and even on off center hits there was virtually no fall off I went in thinking blades and HMB but the offset killed the HMB for me - hopefully Mizuno with do a JPX Hot Metal thing and release an HMB Pro with similar offset to the blades If I had to order a set, I would order 9 iron to 6 iron in MMC, strengthen the 6 iron by 1 degree and then order the 4 iron in HMB and add 2 degrees to it to make it play 24 degrees - but what I really want is a 5 iron HMB with less offset
@justinstephenson93605 жыл бұрын
Looks are very personal but you must have a very sharp eye because the difference in offset (according to specs on Mizuno's website) between the blade and HMB is small ranging from 0.05" (about 1mm) in the 3i down to 0.027" (0.5mm) in PW (the difference between MMC and HMB is even smaller 0.01-0.02" per club). I have to admit my eyesight simply isn't good enough to see those differences. I wonder where the JPX 919 range fits now - the 919 Tours were amazingly easy to hit in the mid/short irons even for my limited ability
@wallstreetoneil5 жыл бұрын
@@justinstephenson9360 when you look at all the clubs together it is the very first thing that sticks out in the 7 irons - and, my Hot Metal Pros have an offset less than the MMCs, so when looking at all 4 clubs together, it's the very thing that made the HMB 'look' different - you will have to look at them in person and see for yourself. Maybe if I looked at the club on its own it wouldn't have been the same but if people are going to combo these with the blades, trust me it will be obvious. I know no one is talking about the MMCs, and I went in thinking they would be as ugly as the last model, but I honestly think they are the best clubs - and I never thought I would say that before testing them.

Hi Mark & Dan, If you want to blend the blade into either of the the other irons from a loft point of view. I wuold leave the wedge as it is then make blades stronger by 1 degree, then when blending to MMC or HMB weaken the loft in those irons by 1 degree to achieve a good blend in loft. Also, hopefully this would sort distance gapping out. I would need to see all three full sets to see where visually the blend would work. I'm thinking wedge, 9, 8 in blade. Maybe 7, 6 in MMC. Then 5, 4 and possibly 3 in HMB. What are your thoughts?

@danmohan19815 жыл бұрын
I feel like the MMC set IS a pre-blended set for you. The way they've played around with the weighting in the longer irons, but kept the look very blade-y. Yet the shorter irons are basically the blades with some titanium in the back so that the look stays the same from 4-PW. Also, it's worth noting that the lofts of these three sets are not the same.

Back in my day, we used to shave with the top line of our blades. :) For me, as an old Hogan blade player, the MBs look quite friendly and are more forgiving than expected. My heart says don't blend, because the 4 feels exquisite hit well. Do I strip away a bit of potential joy just so a bad strike on an HMB would finish 5 yards closer than a bad strike on an MB? It comes down to why I play I guess. I'm getting fitted for MBs soon, and will check out the HMB 4 iron, but to me, hard to hit with a blade really starts with a 3.

Mizuno will match up the off-set, lie and loft when you order a combo set, so that you get even yards and can swing them the same way with all the clubs. Before the MP-20, you could get a MP-18 combo set, with 2-3 MMC Fly-hi, 4-5 in MMC, 6-7 in SC and 8-P in MB and it would work just as you would expect with 10 yards intervals.

Mark: who’d blend at 8? Titleist: Ahem, ZBs Mark, remember the ZBs? Thanks for the vid, appreciate the attention to detail, I always see that the blend starts at the point where performance drops off, when the longer club isn’t getting it done, so the 5 iron blade can’t consistently provide me the gap I need over the 6, and the height i need, then that’s where I blend, it’s going to depend on how the player delivers the club, what their results are and what they like. Keep up the great work gents.
@dmeriwether165 жыл бұрын
The comparison shows what the club will do optimally. You can blend for continuity on spin and distance gapping (they are pretty much the same). But the reason for combos is not size of top-line or sound. Why take out the mishits? You don’t get mulligans on the course. In the TXG reviews Chris Voshall (Mizuno) makes that point repeatedly. You can allow for your own inconsistency with the forgiveness built into the options past blade without the “hot” fliers. The fitting decision is when the spread starts with the blade more than another option. The dispersion circle on 8 to 10 shots brings the honest reality into the combo split. ...which iron for distance gap and dispersion through the set.

@michaelbarnocki56685 жыл бұрын
Wasn't this the whole point of the video and the idea of blending? They showed they can blend well without changing anything. If you need to go 4-5 in the HMB because you can't hit normal 10-15 yard gaps with the blades, the added loft and tech is there to help you get the proper gaping.
@danielfrancis73565 жыл бұрын
Looking at the numbers it looks to me like the MMC exists as an alternative to the MB. Some people just get intimidated looking at a blade so they made the MMC do pretty much the same as the MB and both appear to blend well with the HMB.

I think this video confirms that golf is 95% swing/technique and the remaining 5% is a combo of equipment, luck and psychology. I think based on these numbers it seems the HMB is the way to go as long as the appearance and offset doesn't mess with your swing psychology. Performance is so close, but it seems to get higher with spin and is more forgiving in miss hits.

Genuine Q (1) with all manufacturers strengthening lofts in irons the need for a GW is now a necessity esp when PW set lofts are 42-45deg. However, rarely do manufacturer offer a GW/AW as standard. Would be interested in some tests of a GW (from a set i.e. G410) vs a specialist wedge (glide) of the same loft. Genuine Q (2) Are TM hurting themselves the most with strong lofts as frankly if people go out to buy a specialist GW they typically go Vokey, Mack Daddy, Mizuno, etc Rarely see people by TM wedges Thoughts?

Can we PLEASE do a video like this on the new Titleist range?! Thanks for the great content.

As a leftie the blending decision for these is out of my hands! But at least they are making a special set - my only decision seems to be whether to go with just blades 5-pw or add in the 4 HMB (I think the 3 HMB would overlap with my hybrid)

Excellent review. I’ve just won a set of my choice (mp20s range)and a fitting at Barewood lakes through James Robinson golf, not sure I can make the trip for my fitting but this has definitely helped me what I should consider doing.

Great video as always. Looking at doing a combo set for irons at my next fitting.

I’m still confused by the HMB. Dan hit all three models similarly and the resulting carry, spin and height was similar. How is this possible when the HMB lofts are two degrees stronger? Shouldn’t you see half a club difference between it and the other two? 🤔

Surely that depends on what lofts Dan delivers 👍👍

Is "feel" a haptic sensation, an acoustic sensation or a combination of both?
@MarkCrossfield2 жыл бұрын
It's sound 👍
@paghal112 жыл бұрын
@@MarkCrossfield I only ask because I can feel a mishit from my Mizuno irons in my hands and forearms, whereas the one that is perfectly struck is almost like there was no contact. But the sound is definitely different too. BTW, I really relate to your teaching style. Wish my instructor had some of that.

I love the blending concept, have for ever, but manufacturers, in the past would never consider this heresy. The only problem is when they adjust the lofts for gapping, the practice of bending the hosel to add or decrease loft, affects turf interaction. Any comments Megan...I mean Mark?

Mp20 is probably the nicest looking iron I've seen. Desperate to grab a set 🤑

This is the video I've been waiting for (without knowing it)! Thanks guys for perfect explanation on blending your irons and the things to look for. Definitely want to test this for myself but unfortunately I'm not sure any fitters locally who can do this. Would you recommend travelling or paying a company such as Tour X in Wigan? Costs for the fitting but I honestly think a blend could change my game...particularly my long game. Or I could travel to you guys but that's some trip from cumbria 😔

Oh my blender. So many great options. Well done lads. I’d make the blend at the 6 iron

I wonder how a Mid/High handicapper would blend, or if they would even bother blending and just stick to HMB for the full set. I got to hit the HMB 7 iron ( I'm a High Handicap) and was hitting it 166-173 pretty consistently. That's a huge jump from the 145-150 I hit my Ping Eye 2 7 iron. Really that 166-173 is my 5 iron distance (165-170) with the eye 2. Hell, I hit my 4 iron 175-180 so the HMB 7 iron is getting real close to my 4 iron when struck well. Kinda makes me wonder about how many wedges I would need for those shorter shots.

Titleist is the only company with brass ones big enough to allow these reviews to remain honest. This is why they will always be in the mix when I look at new clubs ... speaking of I just bought a set of T300’s. Forget the anorexic clubs #GoChunky

I’m curious you’re both choosing a blend which cuts out the mmc. I was thinking, for myself, HMB 4-5, MMC 6-7, MP 8-PW but you’re making me question this now. Appreciate the results aren’t suggesting any difference which is great, but a little more forgiveness (over MPs) in those mid ones 6-7 was my thinking...

Love the fact these are great for blends i have jpx 900 hot metal love em except the sole is too big and doesnt give me confidence as I grew up with more traditional looking clubs although I do need the help in the longer irons think mmc pw to 6, 5 and 4 hmb seem to hit "better players clubs" easier gonna be tough picking next set between these titleist t series combo, 919 forged, i500.
