I try to pursue a degree in music at the Araphoe community College before in the early 90s everyone at the enrollment office just look at me dumbfounded not sure what to do or how to help me to pursue it then I sign on to a music theory class and it was suoer difficult everything related to math theory and counting, this German professor was very rude because I wasn't catching on he just sorta gave up on me so basically I drop out of college after pursuing other degrees that just didn't work out

Hello! Can I just say that this video is amazing! I'm currently studying BA Music Business and Entrepreneurship in London. Most people on this course already have an idea of what they want to do in the industry and are using the degree to get them there. On the other hand, I've found myself in a situation where I joined a course to learn more about the industry to see what piques my interest. Coming from a session-musician background, there never really were any resources that actually tried to match direct skills to possible roles in the industry and this video was pretty much what I've been looking for. Although I'm now pursuing a career in publishing, I still find this video to be an amazing resource for people trying to find their way in this daunting industry. Just wanted to say thanks for the value you're putting back into the community and the best of luck with the rest of your work! :)

@paigeofsw0rds2 жыл бұрын
Being a musician can 100% be a job! And there's lots of ways to approach it to diversify outside of live performances. You could be a session musician and get hired in to play on other people's albums in studio, teach music lessons, form a wedding band (live performances where you don't have to convince an audience to show up 😂), sell your services on Fiverr... lots of options!! Should I make a video about this?

Thanks a ton for making this video! Really appreciated learning all about the different ideas for music careers I could get into. And I Loved the choice to go with Animal Crossing Music - being a fan of Animal Crossing myself, that was a fun surprise to be immediately greeted with :) I had a question about music careers that I wanted to ask you - I just graduated from High School, and I was considering the idea of doing something in the music industry. For me, I really enjoy finding songs that I feel could be paired with certain types of scenes or moods (whether it's in like a dramatic sort of story-telling project, or more of a commercial/informative sort of project) and then organizing them so I have a collection of songs all related to a certain type of scene/emotion. And furthermore, while I haven't been doing this as much, I also really like the idea of trying to utilize these songs for scenes in projects that they fit with. But do you happen to know if there are really any jobs in the music industry are related to doing either of these things?

thanks for your videos, they're so helpful! I was wondering: I'm doing my B.Sc. in Psychology but I realized halfway through, that I'd love to pursue a career in music. Do you have an idea in which jobs it could be helpful that I studied psychology or where I could get my foot in with this?
@paigeofsw0rds2 жыл бұрын
honestly, that sounds like it would be beneficial in so many areas! less as like "this job requires this experience", but because it'll naturally make you better equipped to deal with personality types or managing how you deliver info. also great for artist managers or people working closely with talent because you can be cognizant of their mental health and current state of mind. I think marketing would be a good fit (since it's the psychology of how to get people to like the artist through ads, events, etc.)!
@liveoffthewallco4 жыл бұрын
Doesnt a artist manager help with the “live music” department u were talking about as well?
@paigeofsw0rds4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. The manager doesn't need to go on tour, as they often have a roster of artists they're managing the careers of and going to meetings for. I would opt to go on tour with the band I'm currently managing just because they're still in early stages and I personally want to go on tour, but it's not required! A lot of management contracts also state that the manager is not a booking agent and will not be fully responsible for booking shows, but connections/opportunities they bring to the table can definitely include that too. It all depends on the manager and how they want to do things!

100% yes!! it sounds like you're already doing a LOT of the things that will get you to where you want to be, and you might not even need to lock yourself down to just one company/label/etc because you can effectively do that work for anyone on your own! 🥳 What's your goal scenario? @paigeofsw0rds4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, COVID is kind of screwing up everything in this industry right now. 😪 Maybe working in a studio in another role, whether an apprenticeship or a front desk-type job could be good to connect with people in your field and get experience from being around it? Once these things are back up and running, I guess. I've also been seeing a lot of friends in production/engineering using Fiver to make extra cash. Maybe you could offer to listen to band's mixes and give them feedback? Could be a good way to get to know new bands that are looking for teams to work with! I'm going to talk to some friends in this field and see if they have any advice!

No. Produce music and sound effects for tv shows, videogames and presentation events. Pick a genre/style you're good at and stick with it. When I was doing music, people kept saying it's nothing more than a hobby. But when I found an actual lane outside of trying to BE A FAMOUS MUSICIAN people kept asking me about these BMI checks that kept coming in. These people's jobs wouldn't exist if we don't make the music for them to talk about.
