First thing Mets should do is hire Daniel Murphy as hitting coach. For the time being, the most sensible move is to send Brett Baty to AAA to work on his swing and promote Jose Iglesias. Rylan Bannon should also receive consideration. None of the young prospects from last summer's trades are ready. The best candidate, Drew Gilbert, is on the IL and will need AAA reps. Acuña is not ready. Using talented AAA arms in the Mets MLB bullpen is sensible, depending on the pitcher. It is premature to assess who, if anyone, should be traded at the deadline.

Hayden Senger needs to come up for catching defense. He is a stud defensively.
@benjaminwatlers18485 ай бұрын
If he is a catching stud defensively should the Mets think about moving Alaverez out from behind the plate? The Astros moved Craig Biggio from catcher to second base and made a hall of fame career with him. The Cardinals moved Todd Zeile from behind the plate to infield and he had a good career.
@miguel.ledesmaledesma17905 ай бұрын
@@benjaminwatlers1848 No way.The problem with Hayden is that he is a liability offensively. This is why he is a career minor leaguer(he is 30).But defensively,as it pertains to catching runners attempting to steal,he has an excellent pop time and a rocket 🚀 for an arm. Alvarez is not bad defensively,but Senger is no doubt better. Senger would be an outstanding backup.

@@LockedOnMets I think the game goes in stages; discussing batting average comments in 2023 the American League batting title winner average was .330 and the National League average batting title winner average was .354; yet you look at things in 1991 Terry Pendelton won the National League batting title with .319 average while Tony Gwynn only batted .317. So that is going mean that in 1991 very players batted over .300.

@GeraldM_inNC5 ай бұрын
OK, granted my gushing predictions for Acuna were premature. And I do agree that he will have to average .280 to earn a starting job. But I don't agree with you about his low ceiling. Acuna = Jose Reyes or Mookie Wilson, both of whom were Mets stars and foundational pieces despite their inability (and lack of desire) to draw a walk. Based on his performance below AAA, I still believe Acuna will have a better lifetime b.a. than either Reyes or Wilson. And, if I recall (correct me if I'm wrong), Reyes did NOTHING in AAA to earn promotion, and he was an automatic out the first half of his time in the Majors until catching fire the second half. Some guys do their learning at the Major League level. I would also suggest that as an analytics fanatic (like all the hosts at "Locked On") you greatly undervalue stolen bases, hit & run, bunting, and the running game in general. I would concede that Acuna's skill-set would shine more brightly at shortstop than second, even though I still believe he would be the best second-baseman longterm the Mets have ever had. I would love to move him to shortstop if we could unload Lindor for nothing upon a sucker in return for paying off half his outrageous contract.

Or can Stearns man up and admit the mistake and figure out a trade for Guillorme? That would work as well. Ryan - off topic - if you don't mind me asking, are you related to the professor?
@benjaminwatlers18485 ай бұрын
If the mets wanted Guillorme he would be traded probably just for cash considerations. Guillorme last what about a month with the Braves as he is a okay player at many positions but no great. I don't think Stearns has made any "mistakes": I think this is exactly what they expected. The front office just lied about this being a "bridge" year. 2024 is the teardown to start rebuilding NEXT year, to compete (maybe) in 2026. Hence all the one-year bargain-bin deals.
