Talking live about Daniel's question:
Hey Austin,
I attached the Paypal receipt for my question below!
I'm really interested in this Submariner with a faded bezel. It has full box and paper, and is EXACTLY the model I'm looking for: (SEL, Lug holes, and a faded blue bezel).
Couple Concerns:
1. It's about $3k more than a regular 16610/is the bezel authentic?
2. Would I be better off buying a regular 16610 and a faded bezel off ebay? Or does it make sense to pay the premium?
3. If so, which of these 3 listing would you recommend?

Welcome back Austin, the lack of 5 digit appreciation content on KZbin has been distressing

Love the 5 digits!!! I have a good collection of modern references Rolex and other and very often I think of selling off everything and seeking out 5 digit references of everything: GMT Masters, Subs, SeaDwellers, Explorers, etc. I'd go with Swiss dials through about 2009 to get decent lume. Old lume just looks old to me. LOL. Like old wallpaper or something. But these watches fit better and look better. If I had to sell everything, my 16600 from 2007 would not go (Rolex serviced / refurbished in 2022).

If Daniel lives in Europe it may be cheaper to buy in Europe than pay import taxes when he arrives home from Japan!

So glad to see you back! I had just put on my 116610 after a couple of months in my beloved DJ41 daily driver and lo and behold here’s Austin talking subs! Hope your absence has been due to great things happening and hoping you’ll get back in the swing. Your take on Rolex has always been very close to my own (although I don’t go for pre-owned) Huzzah.

I started looking in the Japanese obituaries to see if something happened to you. I was also considering contacting the Yakuza to see if they could help me out what happened to you. I am sure they are into Rolex watches.

Austin!! Glad you are back my 5 digit reference compatriot. You mentioned one thing here that I have also found to be true. Japanese sellers represent their wares with more accuracy online. I have had some very very good experiences buying in Japan....to such an extent that I have saved the seller. My PAM 0048 from 2002 comes to mind. Got it well below market about 8 months ago and it is a stellar example (40mm Panerai which is just amazing fit / finish / timekeeping accuracy, full set etc). My question (finally): Why are Japanese sellers so accurate and even going beyond accurate to hypercritical of their own watch inventory? I don't get that, but I do appreciate it. Some background on the Japanese people might help?

The yen isn’t really tanking, it’s mainly US dollar strength against all other currencies. Also, rhe Japanese govt has just bought up $US billions worth of yen to sure it up. This has already bumped up its value a bit.
