Connery was not the only Bond to wear the Rolex Submariner. George Lazenby wore one in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Roger Moore wore one in Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun, and Timothy Dalton wore one in License to Kill.

Any 5 digit Rolex I acquire gets sent to have the case laser welded and recut. Then it looks as good as the day it left the Rolex factory.

Question here .Love your channel by the way. Watched a lot of your videos before buying my 16710. At a point in the video you found a great 16710 Pepsi insert and passed due to the fact that it was « born with black insert » besides that being a preference imo. He settled on a born black insert and will buy a Pepsi insert. ( if RSC allows for Pepsi on a black bien watch, maybe it differs in Japan because in the US they would refuse. At the end isn’t it the same thing ? Both were born with black insert and will be fitted with a Pepsi. Just curious if the reasoning not trying to be a **** Cheers from California.

In a nutshell, it has to do with the bezel insert variations. There are 2 types: the older fat font with serifs insert (pre-2002), and the later thin font sans-serif insert (post 2002), which is the same as the current service inserts. The advantage of this Y serial (2001/2002) is that it was born with that later insert (thin font sans-serif), so when/if he gets a service insert through RSC, the font style will be period correct. Hope that helps, Austin

So a Rolex watch replaced with the same movement, same bezel insert and same bracelet all from RSC, doesn't make it a Rolex watch anymore, because the parts are not what it came with? Lol interesting irony.
@watchsymposium4 күн бұрын
RSC swapping out old parts for authentic like parts would be fine. It's the use of aftermarket parts that is the issue. But it is interesting think that it really comes down to being a Rolex if Rolex (RSC) says it is - even if they put Luminova hands on a tritium-era example.
@ShortLifeHax4 күн бұрын
@ right I almost missed that. Period incorrect luminova with tritium dial lol... Still a Rolex franken ala Rolex but as you said RSC says it is a Rolex because their godly gloves rubbed your watch. So the risk comes with age when RSC discontinue the parts support for 5 digits. Hey give us a 3285 in the F serial. It's still a Rolex made to contemporary standards with timeless aesthetics.

Agree with the decision - But think about this - Your cells regenerate on average every 7-10 years, although there's a lot of variation. Your skin cells, for example, are replaced every few weeks. In fact, you lose close to 500 million skin cells every day. Cells in your skeletal muscles, on the other hand, take as long as 15 years to regenerate. So at one point are you not YOU?

Interesting court decision. I'd say if either the case or the movement is not Rolex, it is not a Rolex watch anymore. Perhaps also the dial and hands. But I don't think an aftermarket bracelet (or strap) makes it no longer a Rolex. I know many Rolex owners who change straps often. I also don't have an issue with someone putting an aftermarket acrylic crystal on a vintage Rolex (happens often, even with six figure watches). Just disclose it. Same with anything on the watch that is not original Rolex - just disclose it, price it accordingly and be honest about it.

If the Parts are Genuine Rolex from the same type of Watch .Yes?
@watchsymposium5 күн бұрын
Good question...if you pieced together a Rolex with all genuine, period correct, parts it would seem that would fly. But I'm sure Rolex wouldn't be thrilled about it; they'd most likely come at you from a different legal angle. If it was a one-off, you'd almost certainly get away with it, but if you turned it into a cottage industry they'd almost certainly pursue.
@omar102132455 күн бұрын
well, sure, as long as you don't try to pass it off as a reference that it isn't when selling it.

Is it me or is that a service dial? It appears to have a modern looking thin frame font on hour markers. I know those dials were released in 2009ish on the 3186 movement. Curious if that’s the case @watch symposium

No, that's a period correct dial. The thin frame dial is different (and indeed on some late 3186 movement Ex.2s). But stay tuned, because I have a video coming up with one in it.

In a “throw away” world the possession of a personal item that can: be with you on your person 24/7, associates with life events (good and bad), has an inherent beauty and artistry, and can outlive you is truly unique and special. Nothing else ticks all those boxes. It is mechanical art that appeals to the hopeless romantic.
